PSR-SX700 first soundcheck

Today I received the new PSR-SX700. Out of the box I recorded this short video to get an impression of the overall sound quality.
Compared to the PSR-S770/775 and even PSR-S970/975 the sound quality improvement is fantastic.
Even compared to the Genos it reaches almost the same level of sound quality.
I prefer the handling of the SX compared to the Genos because of the Style Buttons.
It is easier and faster for me to change styles.

Das neue PSR-SX700 ist heute angekommen und ich habe direkt mal einen Soundcheck gemacht um einen Eindruck von der Tonqualität zu bekommen.
Verglichen mit den Vorgängermodellen PSR-S770/775 und sogar den größeren Modellen PSR-S970/975 haben die Geräte einen fantastischen Sprung nach vorne gemacht.
Die Klangqualität erreicht sogar annähernd das Niveau des Genos.
Von der Bedienung gefällt es mir sogar auf den ersten Blick besser, da die Style und Voice Taster hier sind. Das Style einstellen geht hier also etwas schneller.

@@Kaisiilerite Hi sorry for not replying. The SX600 has less voices and styles that's why the styles are not compatible. The Expansion packs available will work, as long you have enough flash rom space.

You've done a really remarkable job here. Yes, you've made a couple of mistakes, but nothing to distract from your main goal which was to share the ease of use, and amazing versatility and capabilities of this Yamaha keyboard. The sound generation isn't so much further advanced from my own S770, but it appears that Yamaha has resampled and enhanced much of what was, on my keyboard. If this was all that was available I'd still be eager to buy this keyboard to repulse my aging one. However, I'm seriously thinking of buying the SX900 because of its advanced capabilities. Being a gigging musician, with no setup crew buy my wife, and limited space in my car, I'm looking forward to replacing the S770 with the SX900 before Christmas. Thank you so much for just doing what you do best. Putting your soul into your music.

Thank you so much for your kind words. To be honest the SX700 sounds much better than the S770 and also better than the S970 in many cases. It has improved sound processing and you can feel it in the rich sound of the voices and styles. Especially the third right section is a big improvement and also the new Keyboard feels much better. The DSP Power is inferior compared to the 970 and the SX900. That's the point where the 900 really shines. It has 8 Genos level DSP's. Making it a really good Deal for that price. It also shares a lot of great Styles and Voices with the top model. The 900 also contains the Concert Organ from the T5 Organ World. A really fantastic instrument. So I think all of the instruments are worth the money :D

Is it just me... when the first style hits in (Summer of '69), it definitely sounds like a PSR, not like a Tyros. Even bringing back memories of a PSR540, I one had (20y ago). A really helpful review! Thank you.

Thank you for your comment. Hmmm, I don't this so. The quality of the samples is really good in that price range. Compared with the PSR-S775 it is a noticable difference. Also great to have a third right voice.

@@Aikkiang You are right, the sound quality is probably lightyears apart from the PSR540,which already ha a 16track sequencer btw. Maybe it is the interplay between style and melody voice, that reminds me of it and sounds "home arranger" to me. I listened to someone playing a Genos for a while (live) and didn't get that feeling at all. Strange. Maybe it's just my ears. Probably will look into MODX, Ketron or Motif next. Thanks again for your very good demo.

I am an amateur musician who has been playing mostly guitar, but also other instruments for over 50 years. Unfortunately I am now a septuagenarian who suffers badly from arthritis & can not long use the fretboards on my guitar, or finger correctly the hole in my flutes band ‘whistles’. It occurred to me that I could still to a fair degree play piano or keyboard instruments. So recently I purchased PSR SX900. It is going to take a while to learn the full capabilities that this instrument has opened to me - I just had no idea of how versatile an arranger keyboard coul be. I have had previous experience with Yamaha instruct, and I can only highly recommend them.

Hallo! Vielen Dank für Ihren Kommentar! Die Lautsprecher sind ganz gut, aber das variiert sehr Stark von dem Raum, indem Sie sich befinden. Bei einem großen Wohnzimmer, würde ich auf zusätzliche Lautsprecher, oder zumindest den Subwoofer setzen. In dem Video habe ich ausschließlich OTS benutzt. Dort hatte ich das Gerät gerade erst ausgepackt. Ich spiele aber selber eher auf dem Genos und Montage und dort muss ich externe Lautsprecher nutzen, da sie keine verbaut haben. Diese Instrumente habe ich für meine Musikschule gekauft. Liebe Grüße!

( im Vergleich zur PSR S 770 ) Einen Subwoofer schaffte ich an doch noch immer bin ich nicht so recht zufrieden. Die SX 900 hat zusätzlich zwei 10 W Verstärker eingebaut. Nun frage ich mich, ob ich dahingehend wechseln sollte, denn in meinem normal eingerichteten Wohnzimmer wären externe Lautsprecher nicht so toll. Erwähnen möchte ich noch, das die erstellten MP3 auf einer Anlage recht gut klingen. Sie haben mir mit Ihrer Auskunft sehr geholfen! Nun muss ich wohl doch unseren netten Frank behelligen und nerven. @@Kaisiilerite The sx600 has only 100 mb rom for new Voices, styles can be added as much you want. Best thing would be to upgrade to a better Keyboard. The SX720 and SX920 have been released on Tuesday, so if you can afford you could upgrade to one of these, or you can try to get a used 700 or 900. if that‘s no option for you, I will send you some sources where you can buy software, but that won‘t change the overall experience by far.

i have the psr sx 700, but i had the psr s 750. And i can tell you that the grand pianos and most of the "basic" sounds are identical on the psr sx. nevertheless its a great keyboard and easy to use. except the style creator and sequencer. hopefully someday yamaha also incorporates an "advanced" sequncer with piano roll view and other stuff, so that you dont have to sequence with the computer afterwards.

I mean what are the right steps for a beginner, that you suggest to follow, to become so familiar with the instrument and playing so perfectly as you? Should someone start with piano lessons first and then find a teacher that knows every detail of the Yamaha arrangers, to make you learn the instrument correctly? What was your steps, how many years did it take to master it and how did you make it?

Buy a couple of music theory books for beginners. Buy a piano book for beginners. Buy a keyboard book. Buy a used or a new but cheap!!! keyboard with styles (Like a Yamaha PSX E-3xx or a Yamaha PSR E-4xx if you can afford it). Learn your fingers to "memorize" the major and the minor musical scales. If you find it hard to play music and don't have the patience to learn the basics, sell the keyboard and lose some money. No big deal... If you manage to get your self to practice, you will be able to play music for the rest of your life and constantly improve your skills. A good teacher will save you a lot of effort and time of course, as Aik Tan already have said. Piano is harder to play at a big age, because usually a man has a strong right hand to control and a weak to control left hand. When you are a kid and your brain is "learning" much faster, it is much easier to develop your left hand skills That's why we may prefer to play keyboards at a big age (The left hand just playing chords and not "moving around" at the key bed). How do you know how to use your new smartphone? We do the same with Yamaha's keyboards :)

Ενω τα samples προφανως και ειναι παρομοια με του αυτου που εχω,ο ηχος του ειναι πολυ καλυτερος απ'οτι ηταν ακομη και στα s970-975 και τα styles ακουγονται πολυ ωραια. Σίγουρα όμως, πρέπει να είναι αρκετά πιο βελτιωμένος απ τα προηγούμενα μοντέλα. Εγώ το s770 πάντως δεν το χω ξεζουμισει ακόμα. Έβλεπα έναν youtuber τις προάλλες που δοκίμαζε το sx900 και παραπονιοταν για την touch screen, επειδή εχει μικρά εικονίδια και πατάς καταλαθος ότι να ναι, οπότε πρέπει να το δεις κ αυτό στην πράξη. Έχε το νου σου πάντως για προσφορές από thoman, εγώ το s770 το πέτυχα τότε σε πολύ καλή τιμή.

I'm deciding between SX900 and SX700. I'm on a budget but I like alot of styles. Can most of the styles from SX900 be imported onoto the SX700 and will it sound good? Also, can I record what I play to mp3? Can I create styles too?

Hi! Importing won’t work. Usually you would need to revoice all used sounds, that are not available on sx700. The sx900 is using different drums. You wouldn‘t just need to change the drum kit. You also need to remap it. This isn‘t worth the outcome. If you need or want the styles and the quality, you should go for the sx900. Better processing, better sound, More and better content and more features. Also bluetooth and better speakers. There are a lot of advantages of the 900. if you can afford it, I would prefer the 900!

well to be honest i have the psr sx 700 and, but i would say the Grand piano from my old psr s 750 is exactly the same as on the psr sx 700. this goes for many of the sounds and styles aswell. But nevertheless its a great keyboard.

Hi, it is good but not as responsive as a smartphone. It is also not supporting multitouch. Sad for Organ Drawbars. Nevertheless it is quite good to navigate on it.

I own the Korg pa 1000. I don't have any problems at all with the touch screen. I can't figure that one out.

Not exactly you need hear this synt live then you will the new series have better and cleaner sounds it truth the styles its very same butt still it s have new styles the drums sounds like real drums its have stronger kick and hi heads i loved it vhen i get to partys playing its sound s like a live band playing(I DONT USING THE MIDI FILES I PLAYING LIVE FOR LIVE PEOPLE)

SynthGrooves hello! Thanks for the question. In my view it is a great upgrade even from the s770. After my experience I would definitely consider an update. The drum samples of the genos and sx900 are not available in the sx700.

Renato Ribeiro just copy the styles to an thumb drive and then to the sx700. Thats all. You can navigate to the styles in sx700 and use them. But be careful. They could use sounds and drums that you dont have on sx700. You will need to revoice them in that case.
