I've always liked my systems to sound clean but had no idea the level of knowledge it takes. Since finding your channel you have single handedly taught me more than I knew from over 10 years of "novice, boom boom" car audio. I am now running a 3 way with 5.25 Focals in the dash, 2'' CDT widebands in the A pillars (soon to be tweeters), 6x9 CDT midbass under the front seats in sealed birch boxes (plans for IB midbass), a 10'' level 3 DC audio sub in a ported center console birch box (plans for an AE 15'' IBAU) and a dayton 408 dsp. i know the DSP is shit but it was my first and cheap so oh well it gave me time to get used to tuning with REW. I now have a Helix M four DSP I'm installing soon and can't wait to get tuning. Thanks so much for your honesty, all you've shared and continue to share.

The guru making it clear door location is not best for midbass, but doors are easy for most install shops Only if every installer everywhere in the world had the technical knowledge and passion to do mid bass installations like peter does , to the last detail of perfection. The car audio world would be at a different level if every installer had his vision.

So nice to see the wizardry behind the sound. And oh it sounds sooo damn good that I’m obsessed with it. Sometimes I escape from home and just sit in the car even if it’s for 5 minutes to listen to 1 song 😂 definitely more powerful amps for front stage coming and a play with different subs 👍🙏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Peter, Brett from Alaska,. I love the comment you made when you pulled the Rockford fosgate T36.5s out. You have help me understand a drivers finction and determine whats best for the bugdaet and application. Those retail for $650-700 us dollars. I have them and paid half that. They are being reused in my sq build right now in the doors. I dont teust the shops here to tune, if i ask them questions like your video is about i get that look. Always love the videos and thinking time to step it up and buy all at tuning equipment i need to do it myself.

Really well explained video and this was the one that makes all the pieces falling into place. I have struggled for quite long with my dsp tuning and now I realize that the best way for me is to upgrade my 2-way system (that i thought should be enough) into a 3-way system with a pair of midrange speaker as well. I have almost the exact same cancelations in my VW Polo and my midbase drivers also have those dips around 300Hz-600Hz. Now it´s time for a A-pillar project and then I will hope that some of the issues will dissapear.

The things I learn from your videos! At 12 mins 20 the dips etc. Thank you for these in depth explanations Peter. I have recently fitted a Key 200.4 (not a proper user settable DSP I know) but what it has done for the active front stage in my car is amazing. All those things I always read and heard about staging and placement etc- every track sounds new. Can only imagine what the real systems you build sound like 🤩😎

@pssound9749 as you said that the reason the sub can't fill in the driver side null at around 60 hz due to the location of the sub and the midwoofer, what if the sub was moved up closer like in the rear seat instead of the trunk, would the sub play higher and fill in that null?.

Laughed at your bang on comment about 2k to 5k its 200 percent the fatigue and harsh range even 2.5 - 8k for my ears depending on volume. Mid bass burns voice coils easily at those frequency too if driven hard only even mild clipping, perhaps because the speaker doesn't move much the voice coil has a meltdown. This is just me learning over the years blasting it too loud 😂

Years and years ago I have read in a magazine that you should always tune / eq the sound as little as possible because adding filters, 24db slope lowpass, equalizing the channel and sorts of that will introduce all kinds of phase problems depending on which tone is played and processed at a given time. Is that still an issue with the new dsp's ?
@pssound9749
@pssound9749 10 ай бұрын
The issue is not the DSP. DSP is a tool for room correction. The real issue is the environment. Once you put speakers in different locations in a car, the cabin has such drastic effect on the response of the speakers, that it’s impossible to get decent results without being able to correct the differences in response, time & phase between speakers. Those who said that in a magazine have no clue about car acoustics. Their theory may work in home environment, but even over there you need active, passive or both room corrections. In a car in order to achieve magic, you need a fully active system and a very capable tuner. Once you hear a system like we usually deliver, there’s no way back! 🔊🔊

@24:28 so what is the difference between flat and linear? I still don't understand the difference. It looks flat to me.
@pssound9749
@pssound9749 10 ай бұрын
Flat is when response is ruler 📏 flat, which usually sounds weak below 250Hz for our ears. It’s the lower the frequency, the less sensitive our ears are. In order to hear all frequencies balanced, we need a linear rise in the frequency response of the system below 250Hz. 3dB/octave rise is usually a good starting point. Check out the videos in the Tuning playlist to get better idea of it.

Hi Helix SDMI has been out of production for almost 2years now and they still don’t have a due day when they can supply it again, so many people & businesses are in a poor situation to do MOST25 integration. You can still check the Audison BitDMI or alternatives from Mobridge or NAV-TV.

Nice and very informational video Peter. Installing and location off the drivers are crucial, but it looked to me that the midranges and tweeters were more “tunable” then some other drivers in other videos you posted. Am I right or am I imagining that? Or is this because of the acoustics of the car itself maybe? I’m especially curious of your opinion on the sound quality off the tweeters, because I know those are not the most expensive tweeters because I have a pair of them which I never built in a car but only sound tested them in my home test setup.

Great Video Pete! Just a suggestion, try an all pass filter on that driver side midbass in that 60 to 80 range. I know you know the outcome of all pass, it will change the phase at just that frequency and "may" eliminate the cancellation. you can watch it in rew what it does..just activating and bypassing...back and forth

I had one of those TW5's in my truck. Same issue, that 60-70 htz dip really made it struggle with midbass transition and coupling. Always pissed me off. Couldn't ever get it do what I wanted it to do, no matter what I did. Ended up changing the sub out for 2 10" Audison woofers and that problem disappeared completely. Being a JL Audio dealer and working with those many times, I've found this problem with most of their woofers. However the 10TW3 woofers have changed that a lot, they seemed to have filled that gap with that newer design, and I don't have that coupling issue with those...at all anymore.

@@pssound9749 most of the JL Audio woofers I sell have that dip, even the TW3's at some point depending on the car and location...and those have MUCH better midbass transition and coupling capability.
