I'm shocked this is being sold. The original Polly Pockets had to change because they were choking hazards and that's what this reminds me of a lot.

OccasionalVlogger Actually that's not the case, Mattel bought the original company who made the compacts and changed the idea because sales were lowering, less people were buying the original compacts for some reason.

OccasionalVlogger I heard they were discontinued because of the ‘choking hazard’ too. The original polly pockets from the 90s were even smaller then these shopkins. Then ‘health and safety’ got stricter and cracked down on a lot and suddenly lots of toys were taken off the shelves (so much nostalgia right now thinking back to my toy collection with original 90s barbies like glitter hair barbie who had glitter hair gel (for her hair obviously) and the original trolls with the crystal belly buttons, my baby all-gone, the loveable bears keyrings (I could go on forever) plus the sky dancers who were also banned after hitting children in the face apparently?!)

Then why didn't Shopkins get sued yet? No one has patent the design of compact toys so it shouldn't be a problem, also there's something called "inspiration", Shopkins were probably thinking that it was a good idea to have a toy that is similar to Polly Pockets because kids in the newer generation never experienced having one. So in the end, there shouldn't be anything wrong.

unfortunately this whole concept is patented by Mattel. As far as if they get a cut of the profit in allowing moose toys to replicate the idea is unknown. Also this is a new product which is created by a company in Australia. So there are tons of factors to why or why not Mattel has or hasn't filed a complaint. :/ Either way Mattel no longer mass produces this version of Polly pocket.

I like how people are saying that these things are copy (though in my opinion they probably were inspired by the concept?) of Polly Pockets and that "it isn't right", if it wasn't right then Moose toys would get sued by now lol. I dont mind that shopkins are getting compact like toys, since many of the newer generations never experienced having one. The new polly pockets getting released now are also a bit of a downgrade since they tried to hard to make there rival companys "original idea", Blue Bird toys. The colors look terrible together, the design for the keychains could've been better, and the smart stick just doesn't make sense to me because sometimes there's barely any areas to stick polly in. Shopkins stuck to the original idea (the peg like dolls) and have better designs and colour themes. I dont get it, if you guys think Shopkins is copying this, Mattel is too? since there not the ones who came up with the original idea.
