Do suspect that someone may be taking advantage of your kindness? If this thought hasn’t crossed your mind, it’s still better to stay informed and secure with yourself, rather than feeling doubtful of a questionable or unsafe relationship with someone. Here are some ways that someone may be using your goodwill against you.

I don’t know y reading it makes me feel like it is being said against me by someone who thinks I used em just like everyone else who they say or think did, while I was trying to convince myself that we were just different people who had different issues and principles in life & that while they thought I used em I thought they were wasting my time , draining me & not respecting my boundaries. I would like to know the psychology behind this feeling one day.

I relate to all the signs..... Growing up I have had many toxic friends and family members who have gaslighted me and used my kindness for granted. I have now realized after all these years that whom you give your trust to matters greatly. Trust has more value than money because you are sharing an intimate, soft and vulnerable part of yourself with others. Sharing this part of yourself with the wrong people will break your heart and feel like a stab in the back. Select the right people. Choose wisely 🙏😔

It's beyond infuriating when you finally say no to people you've done so much for, but then they get pissed at you and have the audacity to call you selfish or greedy. I went way more years than I'd like to admit sacrificing myself financially, emotionally and physically for people who could give two shits about me. It's tough being a kind person in this world. I'm glad I finally started to have moments of clarity and realize these people don't deserve my kindness. It's good to be kind and help people, but only for those who truly appreciate it and don't just want you around for their own personal gains.

From elementary school to high school, my classmates took advantage of my kindness. I became resentful for 22 years, but was too scared to do anything about it. So I gave them all my pens and pencils. I let them copy off my homework and exams. Then they coerced me into doing their homework, and buying things like lunch, snacks and electronics for them. I let them take things such as my lunch, my DS, and my phone. I had no idea how to say no. They took complete advantage of me. I felt so used. I said yes to everything they asked of me to the point where I slowly started to become resentful.

What's disturbing to me is how so many abusers are children. When I was a child, certain peers get attracted to me, and the kids that latched on to me and called themselves my best friend urged me to let them steal my pencils, let them depend on me for sheets of paper, copied my answers on tests, and would either physically assault me or emotionally manipulate me if I say no. I was too young to know better; I latched on to the first person that got attached to me, and it didn't occur to me that there are other people I could befriend. Besides, these "friends" would say awful things like: "Oh, I thought you were my best friend." That kind of manipulation had never even crossed my mind; how did these kids learn this by 7? The pencil thing bothers me the most. My "friend" would "borrow" my pencils and then claimed that they returned them but they didn't. I would be forced to ask my mother for new pencils, and she would get understandably angry that I'm wasting money for school supplies.

I just ended a friendship due to this behavior. The individual would not even speak to me when I tried to communicate, which is what I always emphasized with her. I watched her child months for free, ran errands for her, and listened to her tumultuous relationship drama…all I asked was communicate and be considerate. Multiple times she would leave her child and not follow through with the “pick up time” I’m not going to be helpful and you disrespect my free time and compassion. Even with them walking away..I was still kind but Al respect for them is done 💯

Please keep a lookout on your loving friends who you fear are in an abusive relationship. My first serious relationship was an emotionally abusive one where I (a male) was the victim. It’s been 10 years and I’m still reeling from it by dealing with social anxiety and depression. It’s a valid form of abuse that needs to be talked about more.

Sometimes being kind-hearted gets to the point where you start to resent others. Don't be so nice that people start to take advantage of your niceness and use your good nature against you. Don't say yes so often that others start to ask too much of you.

I had a friend, and even though we’ve fallen out of touch because of all the drama in our friend group, I still think about and appreciate her every day. She wasn’t an angel, that’s for sure, but she was always much better at judgement I’m character than I was. Even though she was a bit pessimistic when she looked at other people-seeing the worst in them-while I was more optimistic-only seeing the good in them-she was still better than I was at knowing who was toxic. She was always there to warn me of people who she was afraid would take advantage of me-and a lot of times she was right. As I said before, she wasn’t perfect, but she cared and she showed it. Thank you Kenzie 💕

The barista at Dunkin this morning told me, "You're too nice." He meant it though, like not in a nice, friendly way. And I wasn't offended. Honestly, it reminded me that even when I feel like I'm being "mean" for setting boundaries (or just simply BEING)... I'm not at all. Sometimes my kindness can go a little too far in that MY needs aren't being met. I'm learning to take care of myself first FULLY so I'm able to be there for others.

My kindness was most definitly used to the advantage of others. However, I have made that impossible for that to ever happen again. If I keep everyone away from me, nobody can ever take advantage of my once kind ways and social inexperience. There is no need to be social. However, there is a need to stay safe. Thus, I reacted accordingly. I keep others at a very well defined distance.

Using my kindness against me? Not on my watch. Actually there are few people who does this, but at least my true friends doesn't and i hope they won't. Being kind and gentle is a trait found often in people who have some sort of weakness in social relationship, and for them is easy to fall into the arm of a manipulative person! When you grow, when your "heart" is mature enough, you can be kind with strangers, but always at YOUR own conditions (example- I'll help you for something, and I don't ask back for nothing, but it's my choice to help you in a determinate thing. Do not cross boundaries or ask for more, I could change my mind and walk away). It's harder when those people are closer to you, suc friends, partners, relatives.

I know kind people and such are important, but there came a time where I really couldn't take it anymore and just snapped, I lashed out on people who tried to take advantage of my former goodwill, and even got into some fights, I began to decline mentally afterward but thats another topic for another day. It takes a lot for me to trust someone nowadays, but I'm still willing to help out even a complete stranger if they just arent feeling well. Because that's who I am at heart, I really do care for people, but my limits are really being pushed and my patience is running thin. I do all I can to comfort those around me, time to time, but the moment I sense they're being selfish or irrational or something, I don't have the patience for it anymore, and immediately get confrontational with them. People start to assume i'm "crazy" or "a menace" because of it. I try to shrug it off but it really takes a toll. I want to be good but it's really hard, I still tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I hold resentment for the people who once took advantage of my good nature, and they never repaid me in the slightest. And I'll never forget that. They didn't even remember I existed until school started again. But it's whatever. I just wanted to share what I had on my mind at the moment so yeah.

I befriended a lady here last year at the same apartment complex. We had things in common, texted everyday, laughed even went out to eat sometimes and we split the costs when we went out to eat. we are the same size in clothes. We exchanged clothes and we did it free. What I wouldn't wear anymore I gave to her and vice versa. Then all of a sudden she asked for money from me to buy her clothes, I gave her $5 to $7 for shirts and pants off and on she said she needed the money. Then she said she started working a job $13 hr and said she was making good money then we would go out to eat on days she didn't work and one day we went to McDs for lunch and right at the counter before we ordered she claimed she didn't have any money hadn't gotten paid that I could buy her lunch so I did. Then she would call and text me if I could go buy her some groceries and cigarettes (I don't smoke) and just told her I can't and told her to go to soup kitchens even the food bank for food she hated that idea. Have not heard from her again that's been 6 months ago! Sad isn't it. We are almost 50 years old

Kindness will never used against someone, because abusers and thiefs deny that their victims are kind. They prefer to see their reality as true as if a helpful person say take what you want it´s free. Toxic people prefer to think that the victim is responsible for his safety, no matter what. Otherwise it´s not the fault of the abuser if things go worst.

Had this friend a while back. She was kind hearted but set boundaries for herself at some point. I guess back when hugs weren't offensive she was like a "hug buddy" for me. I'd have days when I just needed a hug and there was nothing wrong with that. So, one day we were hanging out at lunch (this is back in middle school so waaaay back to like 2002, 2003--around there.) Every other day, she'd share her lunch with me when I didn't have anything to eat--which was wretching because I eventually got sick from it. Aside from that, she was always there for me. I just had no idea at the time if I was or not but now that I think about it today as I look back, I feel like I was taking advantage of her. I may not have known it then, but as I look back on those days I realize she just had a good heart. Well, she was my very first friend and it was comforting to feel like one's life holds meaningful value to another's life. Her existence is the reason why I'm so inherently nice to others. (Yeah, sorry about my profile pic. It's like 12 years old. I promise. I'm a pacifist. I dislike violence. But the rabbit was inspiration.)
