EVIL isn't DARK: what people don't understand about the other force

Popular culture has trained people to associate evil with darkness. However, evil rarely presents itself as something hideous, twisted, and dark, and darkness is actually an aspect of divine nature. This conceptualization throws people off track, and leaves them vulnerable to the ensnarements of the negative force. In this episode, I will discuss how this misunderstanding likely came to pass, and how to keep yourself safe through more accurate discernment.

Evil can exist with one person in a room. But evil cannot thrive without a captive audience that denies reality. Evil's biggest assest is confirmation bias, and obedience and its greatest adversary is an open mind and a questioning mind, and moral standards .

As someone who has been molested, when their eyes become black and bring shivers down your spine when they transform before doing their evil acts. It's something it would be hard to even believe until pure evil is seen, which I do not wish on anyone. Just know it exists, because they prey on the naive and kind-hearted. I agree. Real evil is something I think very few people have experienced. But when you see it and you sense it, you would never wish it upon another person, because evil relishes in nothing but chaos and destruction. I hope that you've been able to overcome your encounter with malevolence, perhaps you are strong enough now to defend yourself from it and ward it off.

This simple explanation gave me goosebumps. I used to believe that good and evil is easy to discern, but it's not that simple and the path to hell is paved with good intentions. Intentions that you think are good because you don't get the whole picture and how they will affect you and people around you and can bring down a whole civilizations... A very common example of evil can come from someone with authority over another who gets the opportunity to exercise their power in a way that gives them pleasure at what hurt they are inflicting. The authority may be only momentary, that does not matter and the actor may in general be seen as a good person.

good content. I believe the light/dark analogy also persists because in the dark one cannot see well, thus it is harder to avoid being attacked. "evil" lurks in that darkness. This affirms what you are saying - it is not the darkness itself that is evil, but the idea conceptually is that evil is 'hidden' - it hides its true face and thus is not easily seen for what it is.

I might correct : Voldemort used to be the most handsome student at Hogwarts. At that time he was called Tom Riddle. He did not show any agression so everybody thought highly of him.
@nucle4rpenguins534
@nucle4rpenguins534 Жыл бұрын
It might still stand though as a good "evil model". Tom Riddle, someone having many good attributes (physically good looking, an excellent mage & student, etc.) had deep potential but also and a large lust for power. In this series he was tempted to the latter. This we see manifested physically later with his appearance change into that overblown grotesque form (noseless voldermort), as well as literally "seeing" for what he truly is now. At that point he simply does not care to hide it or is too delusional to see what others see him as. It mirrors quite a few instances on how evil is portrayed I think, in that people hide their malevolence until a certain point point where it's no longer apt.

Great points/observations. Thank you. The "banality of evil" ... an entire bookcase could be written about evil, and has been. Dostoevsky wrote "humans can get used to anything" and Solzhenitsyn “If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart? During the life of any heart this line keeps changing place; sometimes it is squeezed one way by exuberant evil and sometimes it shifts to allow enough space for good to flourish. One and the same human being is, at various ages, under various circumstances, a totally different human being. At times he is close to being a devil, at times to sainthood. But his name doesn't change, and to that name we ascribe the whole lot, good and evil. And the most sobering thought of all, scratch the very thin veneer of civilization and you quickly find savage evil. "Evil is us"

I had a look at your selection of videos and this one really jumped out at me. I have been studying Animism and ancient philosophies of man. You have done a great job here explaining how the spirits of the earth are just as important as the spirits of the sky. You've done it in your own way of course but I find it incredibly rare to find anyone outside of perhaps contemporary Shamans who understand the world of spirits. I have subscribed based on this video. For my part, I will just add that the darkness and the Spirits of the Earth have been Demonized, literally. The Hebrew, Muslim, Christian religions have all mislead people in this regards. They have damaged our natural, common, universal understanding of the world of spirits. Thanks again for your good work!

You hit on a few things I feel strongly and a few pet peeves. I have a few things to add: 1. I’ve always agreed strongly that the light/dark metaphor is an overused good/evil metaphor. It’s not without precedent in the Bible-John uses it, as do a number of other places in the Bible-but there are also instances where darkness is presented either positively or with nuance, such as Isaiah 43:5 (“I will give you the treasures of darkness and riches from that secret place”), Isaiah 45:7 (“I form light and create darkness”), Jeremiah 13:16 (“Give glory to the Lord before he brings the darkness”), and Psalm 139 (“Darkness is as light to you.”) 2. My pet peeve is when people think yin-yang represents good/evil when it doesn’t… it represents light/dark, white/black… just as it equally represents other diametric natural forces that rely on each other. But it was never meant to represent good/evil which fundamentally do not together represent balance. 3. The name “Lucifer” was an accidental addition to Christian theology, as the name doesn’t actually appear in the Bible. It came about when translators thought there was a connection between a passage in Isaiah talking about a king and the broader story of Satan. The translation read “Lucifer” which was the name of an existing pagan god. 4. I do wish evil were depicted as more beautiful and alluring, as if it weren’t then we would not be remotely interested in it. The fruit always seems delicious until the consequences are felt and the damage is done.

@@svst3767The whole concept of monotheism contradicts itself (in Christianity). If there's one God, what's with this Satan stuff? Does God want Satan to do evil or what? That would be the logical answer, but, of course, that can't be the answer, because God is also nothing but goodness. Now, in Zoroastrianism, of course, they have rivaling deities, but Christianity is a monotheistic teaching... So it seems that people just wanted to have both the perks of "there's only one God and it's our God" and the "screw these other evil gods with a spoon!" So they patched it up with "the ways of God are mysterious". Too often we simply won't admit, personally, as a family, as a community, or culture at large that real evil does exist right now - as you said, in plain sight. "People of the Lie" by M.Scott Peck. An excellent and disturbing book on this topic.

Sometimes it looks at you in the mirror and sometimes in other faces. It's in the choices that we make every day. Good or evil.

Thank you for the video. I would like to have a follow up on how to be able to distinguish or unveil the cloak of light! And what it means that you often are surrounded by evil. This is a figure appearing in early hagiography: the good woman attracting bad man….

Evil, more times than not greets you with a smile, wears a suit & promises their intentions are to help you.

The line between good and evil runs through every human heart. The individual is responsible for that heart.

A thorough investigation of the history of the 20th century should teach people that evil is not dark at all. It really does resemble goodness to those it ensnares. To a drug addicted person, the pleasure of getting high is good; it is only after they are hooked that they realize the destructiveness of the path become a slave to.

You have reminded me of the progression of the movie REQUIM OF A DREAM where the first part of the movie shows the euphoria and exhiliration of their drug use then followed by their slow destruction of their relationships, loss of employment and theid final heartbreaking act where they did all sorts of things to get money to buy drugs until consequences caught up with each of them. Just like the initial euphoria of drug use, sometimes evil may be disguised and may even let you believe that the evildoers are virtuous whilst the victims/oppressed are the ones who are evil who need to be eliminated.

Like Augustine's "evil is the deprivation of good," the only thing evil about starvation is the absence of the good (food) in the starving person's belly. It's only the absence of good we call evil.

This is exactly the philosophy of Islām - Hell / Jahannam is surrounded by pleasures and appealing things that are in fact evil and harmful... And Heaven / Jannah is surrounded with difficulties that most people avoid, but are so good for you.
