My family found out I smoked "dope" to self medicate my stomach ulcers ("dope" meaning marijuana lol) They'd ask me things like "Damn, Why'd you have to get into that *stuff*?" Like weed compares to heroin or meth and I'm the addict. My littlest brother stopped talking to me, my cousins look at me like I'm an alien, my mom disowned me and favors my siblings above me. All because they're too ignorant to open their eyes about the real world and real problems

Anna Izmailova I was wondering the same thing. I mean, I know how people view hippies, but like, WHY?? Hippies are the definition of peace, and other people are somehow THREATENED by that? I remember when I was younger, my mum told me about the 60s and she was like ‘oh, flower power bullshit’ and she practically described hippies as ‘brainwashed’. Even if hippies are brainwashed, they’re happy because they’ve achieved (or are on their way to achieving) inner peace. Like, I’d love to be brainwashed into happiness that doesn’t even harm anyone else.

I went to treatment because my family were freaked out that I was doing acid and molly.Treatment was bs and I still think I can handle doing these substances. It is a strange thing though because my dad bought me alcohol for awhile it is just when i opened up about the other substances that they were worried. I’ve given up on trying to explain it to family and I might be on my own if I use anymore. It’s stressful but I know I’ll always love them even if they won’t support me

‘The Allegory of the Cave’ by Plato The Cave Imagine a cave, in which there are three prisoners. The prisoners are tied to some rocks, their arms and legs are bound and their head is tied so that they cannot look at anything but the stonewall in front of them. These prisoners have been here since birth and have never seen outside of the cave. Behind the prisoners is a fire, and between them is a raised walkway. People outside the cave walk along this walkway carrying things on their head including; animals, plants, wood and stone. The Shadows So, imagine that you are one of the prisoners. You cannot look at anything behind or to the side of you - you must look at the wall in front of you. When people walk along the walkway, you can see shadows of the objects they are carrying cast on to the wall. If you had never seen the real objects ever before, you would believe that the shadows of objects were ‘real.’ The Game Plato suggests that the prisoners would begin a ‘game’ of guessing which shadow would appear next. If one of the prisoners were to correctly guess, the others would praise him as clever and say that he were a master of nature. The Escape One of the prisoners then escapes from their bindings and leaves the cave. He is shocked at the world he discovers outside the cave and does not believe it can be real. As he becomes used to his new surroundings, he realizes that his former view of reality was wrong. He begins to understand his new world, and sees that the Sun is the source of life and goes on an intellectual journey where he discovers beauty and meaning He see’s that his former life, and the guessing game they played is useless. The Return The prisoner returns to the cave, to inform the other prisoners of his findings. They do not believe him and threaten to kill him if he tries to set them free.

i first came out the day after my first LSD trip, it was so overweening and beautiful that i could not help myself but tell everyone about it. Thankfully my parents didn't treat me with any prejudice whatsoever, however they did seem disinterested of it. The only thing they where concerned about is that i didn't know what i was taking and that it could have been spiked with something else. Honestly caught me off guard, its strange that through all the propaganda that the media pushes against drugs my parents only interpreted it as to do drugs safely. Since then i've always been open with my experimentation with psychedelics with my parents and haven't had any arguments so far.

I live in Canada and marijuana will probably be legal this summer!... I learn from her action, if i have kids in the future i will never throw them out of the house for anything. What kind of parent do that ''My mom''? As a parent you should never kick your kid out of the house for anything. I still hate her for that but i'm not showing her my feelings maybe i should i don't know... My dad is an ex-scientologist, and for the most part, he's rid his mind of the bullshit parts of the cult, but has brought back the good things (believe me, there is some) unfortunately however, L. Ron Hubbard was very strongly against psychedelics, and my dad is completely brainwashed by this, he genuinely believes LSD is the most dangerous drug in the world, I send him links to all the research that could possibly prove him wrong, and he responds with "don't you EVER do LSD." Shitty.

My uncle was the first one in my family to break the mold and be spiritual beyond Christianity. He ended up becoming Buddhist. When he was 18 he had a really bad car crash and had terrible burns and lost some fingers. He ended up dying later in life because of a bad blood transfusion after the crash. Now both me and my cousin are trying to follow his lead. We are seen as the experimental, spiritual ones in the family. My cousin is about 10 years older than I am. My family is more open to what my cousin and me are doing because my uncle did it first and he had to push against the mold.

From an evolutionary standpoint, parents of any species were by definition successful. They lived and were able to reproduce. Therefore, whatever the parents did should result in success for the offspring. Things that the parents did not do may result in an unsuccessful offspring. Because the parents are proven success stories, behavior that is different from the parent should be stomped out in case the behavior is harmful. Many animals do this on a basic level and we do it in a much more complex way.

goclbert the fact that we as a species have reproduced to the point where we dedicate acres of land to force breed and slaughter animals to feed us all, I’m sure it’s okay for us to be a diverse species as a whole, stamping out a persons way of being, and disallowing them to harbour their own original and critical thoughts is like pulling all the strings off of a guitar because it sounds better when you smack it on the floor, it makes no sense, a person must be allowed to progress and find their own path without the forced beliefs that are imposed upon us daily, not just by parents, but by society

Of course, I dont give a shit about that, but to her its so important. But in terms of LSD, she says its 'very very dangerous' and that I'll end up in a psych ward.

Sure, they had concerns, but I was armed with truths, sources and references. That's all it took to convince them. Of course, I know not everyone's parents will have the same reaction, but if you're going to then the best advice I could give you is to come armed with citable facts.

I JUST took my 1st step to become a psychedelic "healer". Only person i told is my best friend. Live with my boyfriend, and brought my mother down to florida almost a year to take care of her after she became disabled. My boyfriend has done his fair share of psychedelics back in the day, and I guess, when we've talked about drug use before each other, guess its not "right" in his eyes to have your most spiritual experieences, grow stronger in faith, closer to your source, ect.while on a drug. Mom never done a psychedelic, grew up in a VERY reserved cathloic family (her sister was a nun), so drugs are bad. The proof will be in the pudding when I have my own little business & the complete & utter joy i'll constantly be in, then I'll tell them. Truthfully, besides my best friend, can't think of anybody who is "living" who would be happy for me. Sucks i can't share my excitement with the 2 people i live with right now. Between God, me, best friend, my kitty cat (she is happy for me, lol). Put that in alot of prayer. Dont need distractions & criticism in my own home.

People hear all the stories about going insane and losing your mind, but little do they understand this break down of the mind is necessary in order to heal our inner suffering. You always come out of the trip changed for the better, 9 times out of 10. In my experience, my last two trips have been the most challenging experiences, but I realised my mind had become stronger, allowing itself to go through the purging and the soul cleanse.

I've found that it's definitely better to lead by example than to shove my beliefs down my parents' throats. I changed their opinions on a lot of things in my teenage years with facts and examples. Recently I visited them for the holidays and tried to educate them on psychedelics, my mom was originally against all drugs (except prescriptions, go figure) and I've opened her eyes a lot by planting the seeds and letting her come to me if she has questions. She even read that new book about microdosing that came out and was really interested! Complete shocker. My dad on the other hand, that's going to be a difficult one ;) I love poking fun at myself as well, it's a great way to put the power back in my hands and not take shit so seriously. I took the label of tie-dye wearing, vegan hippie and wear it proudly :)

Several people in my family have tried psychedelics in a ceremonial context and luckily it is not a taboo topic for us :), but we have indeed turned into hippies, so your aunts were right! Some have never tried but are open to DMT stimulation through meditation and breathwork. I would say the general consensus in my family is that once should be an adult and ready to make important decisions over their health before they try something like psychedelics or generally anything that may be life-changing because no one else should really have to make that kind of decision for you.

Tom, How can you even begin to educate people on the benefits of psychedelics when they have such a rigid cultural conditioning. Especially ones family. We live in an age where we know more about psychedelics than our parents do so it kind of trumps the card since they know nothing about psychedelics unless they used them in their past. I am in shock that you told your family about using psychedelics. My family would put me in a psychiatric ward if I told them about my acid use. Props for having the balls to tell your family even though they won't listen

It's just so sad to know that the rest of your family (except my dad💪) is denying a part of themselves and making themselves so unhappy because of it. That is anyway the way i saw it the last time on mushrooms.

I first told my sister because I knew she would take it well (MDMA)... then a year after doing MDMA every three months I told my mom...soon I might try shrooms and already told my sister. My plan is to eventually tell my dad, but only after a while of doing this stuff and reaching noticeable improvements. One day, while my father is mindblown at my growth I will just drop the bomb.

Thx again bro.... On the money there. I just mentioned to my family that I have and will be microdosing shrooms and that it has given me huge benefits. They lost their guts haha. But then I showed them the statistics from the John Hopkins psilocybin research and they softened up. The point here is that if you show them a really straight looking, old, cute professor who knows his shit they might accept it a bit easier than from hippy you or me!

I integrated it as one part of my healing which includes workout(yoga, running in my case), eating healthy, meditation practice. More focus, positive thoughts, more energy. I did do a small dose of 0.2 10 days straight and after that every few days. I am now planning for a higher dose(heroic) But everything has to feel right before I go there. :)

my first trip was 5 or 6 grams alone in my bedroom(i had planned on doing them with a friend but she apparently thought they would rot her brain), and the next morning i was in no condition to go to school so i just openly told my mom i took mushrooms and couldn't function like a human being. she bought me some orange juice then proceeded to ground me for a week

if your parents instill their values and principles on you ( like all parents do) how do you seperate what YOUR path is from what your parents for you? no matter what, (at least speaking for myself and where I am at right now) my parents influence where my path goes or what path I want because they raised me! it creates a lot of personal conflict. any advice?

Ian Tubbs yes, I am currently in the same sort of situation, and the best thing that you can do is depending on their temperament reguarding certain things, confront them and try to be straight up, but do so and back up your ideas with documented scientific research and inarguable facts. Make sure your argument is so strong they won't be able to penetrate it, they will try from every angle. Them trying to disprove factual evidence without logic will distill a sense of insecurity and self doubt within their mind cause if you craft your argument carefully they will know deep down on the inside that you are right and they are wrong and will eventually come to accept it. Be firm about your arguments, and don't let people push you around.

I knew why I gave this vid a like before it even loaded. Great one. Much truth here. My parents reacted very badly when they found out. Very emotional reactions, even threatening speech "you should go to psychiatry" and stuff like that. But I don't need anyone's lectures. They tell you they're not interested in "drugs" but DARE YOU take a psychedelic? Suddenly tey are this know-all authorities. Just pathetic. :)

@@Chris47368 from what I've heard unless you've got some serious anxiety issues it's hard to have a bad trip when you're surrounded by all the good vibes. Still dose low though I never take more than 2 anymore no matter what. So 300ug at the absolute most and that's a fuckload. Best do low doses in public if you aren't sure what to expect.

Well I've been a "hippie" before and even though my parents don't agree with drugs, they accept it. When I reached the age of 18 they told me my decisions are mine now. I'll be able to do what I want as long as I'll take the consequences. I still ask them when I need help with something but otherwise they don't really interfere with it. When I told them I took a psychedelic drug when I was 19 (I was 20 when I told them, 19 when I first did a psychedelic drug) they were confused. They expected me to have done it earlier, because I got even 'hippie-er" when I reached the age of 17. Realising philosophical stuff, Living more careful and keeping care of the environment. (They got a bit more preachy when that stuff started because they didn't want me to take drugs at the age of 17, and I didn't :D) Guess it's a best case scenario.

Then it was kind of trying to keep me not alone with myself to avoid any harm I can do to myself. But anyways It was a good experience, I just knew that.
