Being a guy in nursing school was TOUGH. I wasn't a CNA either. My OB rotation was absolutely horrible, and even now I'm the only male nurse on my floor. I'm applying to my PMHNP program next year, keep up the vids!

Wow! We couldn’t get less than 75% on any 2 assignments, tests, projects, anything for the entire program or we’d get kicked out of the program. The stress was unreal.

Hey…I’m going to psychnp school in the fall online. I could relate a lot to your story from the undergrad experience and simulations. My story is a little different but thanks for the information. I’m a little nervous about school with a 2 year old now but I’m doing it for her!!!

Great video! I'm currently a pre-nursing student. What is the best pathway to become a PMHNP? Do you recommend starting as a psych nurse or starting ICU/Med Surg then move to a psych nurse position. After how many years of experience do you recommend applying to PMHNP school?

i feel super nervous about starting school however i know that once you go through the program you'll be able to narrow down what specialized field of nursing that i want to work in. I found myself starting off wanting to help people specifically because of my grandpa and his battle with cancer and losing him :/ I thought about Labor and Delivery because, i love kids and the impact to help assist someone bring a new baby into the world is amazing, and then i thought NICU but then i was afraid my mental health would be affected since i am able to empathize and i am a person full of emotions and expression, so i don't know if i can do that. Ive been dealing with chronic shoulder pain, and shoulder tendonitis, Nurse Anesthetist was considered next, less stressed, and now i realized i would absolutely love being a mental health nurse because, mental and physical health has been such a big part in my life, i also want to travel while im young too and this video made so many things click for me so thank you.

Hello, thank you for sharing your experience. I got my BSN in may 2018 and currently working in med-surg. I want to go back to school to get my DNP in psych. I actually did well in nursing school but I am so nervous about DNP school. Any advice?

Thank you so very much for sharing your story! I worked a full time job and a part time job while getting my ADN, and it was super hard!!! I like you felt like I just got by and wanted to just be done with it!! Its funny how we remember how many questions we had to answers on the boards lol! Mine shut off at 135 and I thought there was no way that I passed!?!?!? But I did by the grace of GOD! I then worked as an RN on a med surge unit 31/2 years at which point in time it was time for me to move on... I had to passions 1-psych @- womens health... An opportunity came along for the womens health floor wich included High risk antepartum, Postpartum and gyn gen patients... Loved this work but could never seem to be able to get full time days.. So I moved on to work at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC as a GYN Surgical oncology nurse for 10 years.. I learned a tremendous amount and worked with some truly amazing Doctors! After that I took a well needed break from nursing for 2 years... Until the itch came back lol to go back to nursing.. Now it was time I thought to dive into PSYCH nursing witch was the original reason why I wanted to become a nurse in the first place... Where did I GO? Well to break into the field I took a job as a mental health nurse at a Juvenile facility! Yes... Me sometimes scared of my own shadow said a few prayers, decided to be open, and as it turns out I loved being a nurse to 63 youth boys! Some days it felt like working in an ER other days It felt like I was a therapist/mentor/MOM, and this was my favorite part of the job! I did this for a year during wich time I went back to school for my BSN at Jacksonville University Online- FYI not an easy program! Not just papers and posts lol But I am glad that I choose this school because although it is an online program it has not felt that way in the slightest bit! Your professors care want you to do well and strongly encourage you to keep it moving with your education to advance through obtaining a Masters Degree.. Anyway due to life circumstances I had to resign from my position at the facility I was working at for the past year.. Not an easy decision for me but I did this also to hopfully work as an RN at a facility with more attention on Mental Health Vs. Corrections so that I can learn more in preparation for PSYCH NP school.. As well as to align myself with a job that will be more condusive schedule wise ounce i am hopefully accepted to NP school! So, here is my ?????? I have 2... #1 If I am unable to get a job as a PSYCH Rn at this time... How detrimental will this be to being a good PSYCH NP? I know that I have not had the title of being a PSYCH nurse per say.. But I have worked across the lifespan in areas of nursing where you see a lot of PSYCH! anyway... #2- Where did you go to school??? How important is it to make sure that the school guarantees for you to get in your clinical hours!?!?! 60,000 and to be left on your own to find your own clinical sites seems.. Well CRAZY to put it lightly lol... But maybe I am WRONG?? Lastly thank you and thank you... Because, i study hard now as an old lady age 43 lol but have been pretty worried about investing in PSYCH NP school and being unable to do it lol... I was a C + student in Nursing school... They say C nurses make the best nurses LOL... But can a C nurse get through NP school!?!?!? I believe you answered my question! Hopefully.. I CAN DO IT LOL! OLDER now more dedicated and clearly understand what my true passions are and am ready to work independently amongst a team... So any suggestions for schools... I will be graduating this December and Its time to start getting serious about making a decision... Any help for you or anybody reading this long saga of a story LOL would be very much appreciated as I am at a few cross roads in my life and could use the help of my fellow nurses for some words of wisdom! Thank you again and have a great day!

I love all the information you share on your channel! Thank you for your content!! I've been an RN BSN in the MICU/SICU for 1.5yrs. Hoping to work as a PMH RN soon (I have an interview tomorrow!!) and start PMHNP school next fall. Do you have any advice for starting as a PMH RN? :)

I've been following you for a while and haven't posted before. Had to respond to ask a question.... hope you(or others) can respond. Do you see PMHNP becoming saturated with new graduates so that finding a supervising MD/DO difficult? I know I can work inpatient but would prefer an outpatient clinic setting. Making the jump from ADN to MSN is daunting right now.

Thank you for making this video. I am a nurse, and am considering PMHNP programs. You're right getting your BSN is very challenging! Where did you go to school for your PMHNP degree? I am wanting to do outpatient psychiatric counseling eventually? Do you think your program catered toward outpatient or inpatient more? Or was it pretty even? Thanks!
