Don’t respond to it with annoyance, negativity, hate, any negative emotion. Practice consistently being neutral and then responding to it with love instead. Tell that voice you’re friends, that you accept it. Acknowledge it. I had intrusive thoughts for awhile and this was the way I was able to completely get them out

This reminds me of my grade 5 class when a speaker came in every week to teach the kids about mental health. We learned about breathing, different coping mechanisms, and even made our own "relaxation toys" which were water bottles with glitter in them. They were used to help us when we were feeling anxious, so whenever that happened we'd focus on the glitter and try to count the glitters in it. It helped!

Really well explained video! But I would like to emphasize that end of mental illness is not just related to brain health, there's also a need to understand if there are any social, emotional personal issues and address them as well. The end of mental illness would be addressing and acknowledging these social-cultural issues, gender issues, and personal issues along with brain health.
@emerald4812

I've always referred to ANTs as "my rumors", I still struggle with them myself because they can run rampant and overwhelm me, but I try to remind myself daily that it's all untrue bs, until proven true. Sometimes I'm able to conquer "my rumors" and I feel much better, even if I eventually learn one of them turns out to be true.

im 22 and over the past year I noticed forgetting words mid-sentence started happening to me multiple times a day to the point it was frustrating for me to even want to speak or have conversation period, turns out I actually had an infection starting in my heart and bloodstream and spent 3 months in the hospital with endocarditis, sepsis, and multiple blood clots... it happens way less now I wonder if that was correlated ? It's crazy how when you're sick how many signals your brain gives you that something is wrong that can easily be over looked

"Certian music will make you more anxious" this is so true, whenever I hear the song cannonball or that song that goes "heaven is a place on earth for you" gives me an impending sense of doom. Both of these songs have pretty happy themes but for some reason it gives me mad anxiety.

Video Games by Lana Del Rey? It does have a heavy bass/drum that feels echo-y and makes me a bit anxious. Other songs like The Archer by Taylor Swift are meant to induce anxiousness in the listener, to convey the meaning of the song, the instruments in that song keep trying to reach a climax but they never do, but it's a nice song overall.

This was so refreshing to hear. I think a lot of doctors are so fast to prescribe drugs and not see the underlying issues. ESPECIALLY physical issues like diet, exercise, head trauma, etc… A healthy body can help so much, and I feel like there’s this trend going around of people saying that healthy diet and exercise is “fat-phobic”, which in turn causes more issues. Can cause this endless cycle of depression because of how you look, then when you try to change it you’re told it’s not good, which causes more depression, etc.

the first question: why does the brain sometimes forget words me: *literally experienced that two seconds before the clicked on this video* Dr: one of the reasons could be not sleeping and not exercising Me: *hasn't slept in two days and never works out*

I would definitely check out a website called darebee.com that I found a while back. It has exercise routines and stuff you can organize by type and difficulty and such. (there's so much to it that I haven't seen yet because I rarely use it). There's even one I love that says it's for better sleep! It's obviously not some magical cure but it definitely helps loosen up the right muscles if you go to lie down in bed and feel stiff and uncomfortable. It makes it easier to sink in and relax.

Not going to lie this video made me tear up a bit. For the first time in 1.5 years did I feel ok with letting my fears catch up with me without escaping into another distraction. Maybe I should really look into conseling and if anything this video gave me the strength to do it. Funny how the video just answering questions has such a therapeutic effect. Massive thanks.

What helps me is going to bed at a specific time and actually trying to stay awake. So, say you go to at 10pm, make yourself physically get into bed at that time, even if you're not tired, and try and stay awake. Make a mental note of what you have to do tommorow, what went well today, pray, or just talk to yourself about something. Eventually I'll fall asleep without even realizing it. But theres a lot of different techniques. You gotta find one that works for you.

idk if you're looking for advice, but what helped me was reading a study about how lying down in bed with your eyes closed, quiet, relaxing, even if you're not fully sleeping, is almost as healthy as sleep!! I used to be like "omg only 4 more hours of sleep time left!!!!!" and now I'm like "well at least I'm resting like this"... also, breathing exercises and guided meditations help a lot. I can also recommend the podcast "Sleep With Me", that one's helped me through some tough nights. Good luck 🍀
