I have used the occasionally over the past year. It definitely works. My Dr gives me 15 pills and it will last months. I take .5 mg and usually I break them in half. This past week for a variety of reasons I’ve had panic attacks and needed to take it 3 days in a row, once per day, the whole pill. I’m starting buspirone daily and hydroxyzine as needed if I need it. Because of everything you just mentioned basically. Am I going to have to taper the Xanax after taking 3 days in a row or am I just freaking myself out?

Totally disagree. I was diagnosed by multiple psychiatrists in the 80's (in my late teens/early 20's) with having severe panic disorder. I was put on SSRIs, SNRIs, TCAs, and even some antipsychotics to treat my PD. All failed to work. I can't take beta blockers because of asthma. I got to the point where I couldn't work, go into stores or socialize, despite weekly therapy, EMDR, CBT. I was finally put on Xanax. It was a MIRACLE. I felt normal again. Not drugged, not slowed, slurred, not tired. Just normal. I have been on the same dose for decades. Some people need this drug to function normally when we have literally tried everything else.

You got a good point I was taking Xanax unpescribed for extreme anxiety and insomnia at night, and adderall (prescribed) in the morning for my adhd, doing both of those I felt like the most positive, productive, friendliest soul on the planet… but you need to realize that benzos are meant to be temporary, psychiatrist don’t want you taking that over 8 weeks and it’s closely monitored, I didn’t know that at the time and suffered life threating withdrawals and became over the top dependent. It is a miracle drug prescribed but deadly if not taken responsibly or for an extreme amount of time. my main point is that it’s supposed to be temporary and you lean off of it safely. Happy to hear it worked for you and your enjoying life, keep working ❤️

I had a very similar experience, when I first took alprazolam and it kicked in as I walked into school and I was thinking "people can feel this way normally, no wonder everyone has it easy and has friends and has a life and doesn't sweat all day and is exhausted whenever they get home because of feeling like you're walking on eggshells all day"

I have struggled with mental illness and my mental health since I was a kid. Before I even knew what those terms were. After years of depression, anxiety, and even an attempt to take my life, I never thought I would be able to live without SSRIs medications. I clung to them because it was the only thing that made my mind quiet, but it also made me a zombie. Microdosing has given me control of my mental health for the first time, and they essentially gave me my life back.

Just a thought, let’s say that a patient has been prescribed Xanax for 20 years. The doctor gets paranoid about loosing his medical license. In turn, he tells the patient, “This is addictive, I don’t want you on it anymore”. The patient goes into acute withdrawals and has to go to the er. The er administers one Xanax to the patient after waiting in a loud and crowded waiting room for several hours. The patient is given a script for 4 Xanax, labeled as a “drug seeker” and is sent home. Of course, that’s not nearly enough to safely taper off the medication. The patient, an otherwise law abiding citizen, finds someone to sell her Xanax to keep out of (potentially fatal) withdrawals. Turns out, the Xanax was contaminated with Fentanyl. The patient is dead. Another victim of our wonderful medical system. This happened to my sister and I will never see her again because of this. Despite the fact that I have many psychiatric issues of my own and have to take medication, I will never look at doctors the same again.

I've been through a situation where I was being harassed daily. It caused a mental break so I went to the ER. They gave me a script of like 10 pills. It lasted a couple weeks and I was back in the ER. I finally asked who I had to see because this wasn't going away any time soon. They told me to find a physiologist. I did and he didn't want to help either. I was honest and told him i smoked pot to help with sleep and even said I would quit. They still looked at me like I was some Crack head. I realized I was gonna get no help so I just stopped going. After I stopped going. I quit the anti depressants they were giving me, I quit smoking pot for about six months, and I quit the sleep medicine shortly after. These doctors are useless and I have to wonder if they even were trying to help me. They need to know the difference between someone really suffering from a real injury compared to someone just trying to get drugs.

This is the problem with doctors....they get you on these drugs and never discuss your anxiety and other medicines that may help. Then just as you said....the patient feels hopeless and you cannot trust anyone these days. I am so sorry for the loss of your sister. You are not alone. Doctors need to treat us more like humans and less like addicts when they are the ones that hyper-prescribe. Prayers to you. 🙏🙏

Yea. It’s something I need to sleep. These videos don’t help with the misinformation on what their opinions of the drug are. Some of us take it because we need to and it’s the only thing that works. I’m assuming this lady doesn’t suffer from anxiety or anything like that.

Alprazolam may be taken with or without food. Take the lowest effective dose as directed by your doctor. Do not increase the dosage without your doctor's permission. Avoid operating machinery, driving, or performing tasks that require mental alertness while taking this medicine and remember this is a KZbin channel not your own doctor so any questions you feel (like many of us do) are unsure of then discuss the issues with the real person who is treating you face to face. Anyone can get ideas watching KZbin so have more belief in your doctor who is prescribing you as he /she has the prescription pad and he is the one in control. Sad fact that the doctor is the one not suffering and is in complete control but if your doctor for instance says to be tapered off than you have not much choice really but if he/she wants you to remain on the drug then he/she is doing only what he/she feels is best for you. As mentioned we do not really have any say as at the end of the day it is simply take it or leave it. Sadly with mental health it is us the patients who do not seem to have any choices and if we were celebrities with pots of money than we would be treated with more respect. Best of luck to you and all the patients on here who are suffering and if these doctors and consultants could experience what we do each day then they would understand. Best of luck!

I have been taking .05mg 3 times a day for 28 years for Meniere's Disease. It is the only thing that has ever helped. It lessens the hyperacusis (where the world is just too loud to tolerate) and the tinnitus that is constant and so loud. The vertigo and nausea were so horrible. One .05 pill of alprazolam made it stop. I have no side effects and have never in all these years increased the dose. Some people need this drug and take it responsibly. I understand the warnings doctors give about many drugs, but the well-being of their patients should not be ignored. People who abuse these meds make those of us using them responsibly suffer in the wake of their addictions.

I was also prescribed Xanax for menieres. Unfortunately I was a teenager and too ignorant and not mature enough to have researched this drug and say no to the doctor and my parents. I took it grudgingly for 2 years before tapering myself off of it against my doctors advice because it sucked away every last ounce of energy and motivation from me. This is a terrible drug to just be handing out and it only treats the symptoms. I’m so glad I put a stop to it when I did. My only regret is that I wasn’t able to do it sooner.

The thing about Xanax is you have to take it as needed and responsibly not for just any little reason. It’s a powerful medication and if used correctly you can maintain on it.
@Kippsterama
@Kippsterama Жыл бұрын
The fact that you think medications like Xanax shouldn’t exist and there’s better options out there, is very naive. There are some people out there that have PTSD from war and traumatic experiences that really need a benzo. They’re the only thing that works for some people. They were made to combat panic and anxiety and some people seriously need something like Xanax or klonopin etc.

I was prescribed xanax for anxiety in my early 20's. I was on it for over 35 years when all of a sudden doctors decided they no longer wanted to prescribe it. I stopped cold turkey and had several seizures and ended up in the ER. Coming off xanax was the worst withdrawal imaginable. After being off of it for awhile, I realized it was making my anxiety worse when it would start to wear off. After years of no longer using it my anxiety is pretty much under control.
@user-jq9oo2tx8i
@user-jq9oo2tx8i 9 ай бұрын
The same thing happened to my mother. If they wanted to wean you off of the Xanax safely, they should have gradually reduced the dosage. As a licensed doctor, they should fully understand that the 2 most fatal withdrawals are from alcohol and benzodiazepines. I don’t understand why they do this. They could cut you off stimulants or opioids cold turkey due to medical and safety concerns and you would go through withdrawals but they won’t kill you, benzodiazepine withdrawals can be life threatening. You should report the doctor that did this and leave them online reviews regarding “patient neglect” and “medical malpractice”. Sorry that you had to go through all of that.

I would go insane if I didn't have my xanax. I don't even have to take the dosage they put on it as long as I have it. It's like a security blanket, knowing I do have it just in case. If you've never had a panic attack then you have no idea what it's like. It runs in my family and Xanax is the only thing that works for me, not Klonopin, not Valium, none of it. Xanax works instantly. Nobody has EVER died from just taking Xanax, they had to be taking other stuff or drinking with it.

Yeah, they push garbage now like propranolol which causes heart problems. To be fair, I can understand why some doctors may be reluctant to prescribe it to someone who has never been on them, but given the fact that you have already been taking this medication, it would be negligent for them to suddenly cut you off. If they do that, I would recommend that you take legal action. You can have seizures and agonizing physical and mental withdrawals if you abruptly discontinue these.

Still apart of the 1% myself where it’s helped tremendously and gotten me thru crazy life situations stuff people have a hard time believing well it happened! So this stuff seems to do the trick. And it’s been years myself, I never asked for it at 16, but I’m not depressed, I’m just anxious, so I tried every damn other one, with terrible side effects. Xanax is awful if you don’t have access to it and your dependent on it, so I keep a days dose on me extra just in case. And I’m one too, where I don’t have family like that but I have a great woman by my side thru the past few years of figuring out where I need to be with it finally, but she hates pills, she didn’t have pills handed out in her country before she came, but, she sees the difference between me and others simply from both of our jobs even. And she knows I have seizures in the past unrelated to Xanax, so she makes sure I’m good even when I’m pushing my dose off just to push it off. I will say tho, I get more benefit now making myself be on halves of my dose, so instead of 1 mg I use .5 so half of one and I’ll wait to see if I need more later on, took awhile to lower my tolerance for it to work, but it for sure works better for me this way. But yeah to say people shouldn’t get it, they shouldn’t make it, well what about some rare drug for a non deadly disease? Should they not make tramadol or tylenol 3 for example, the weakest opioids imaginable? No cause people do need them.

@@Andres-kv4ib Oh you want it translated into English? Ok well in short the tolerance for Xanax can increase over the course of just a few weeks. Higher doses or more frequent doses will then be needed to feel the desired effect. Physical dependence caused by long-term use of Xanax means the body has gotten used to having the drug in its system. When the brain and body realize they have gone without Xanax, withdrawal symptoms appear. The body now needs the medication to function. Withdrawal symptoms trigger the brain to have mental cravings, compulsions and psychological withdrawals.
@Failure-j3h

@@Andres-kv4ib translated into English: As strange as it might sound, another great alternative to taking Xanax is to simply make a few changes to your lifestyle. Sometimes, we lead lives that don’t promote healthy mindsets or worse, actively harm our mental health. Mindfulness techniques have helped millions of people manage their anxiety symptoms. Some people use meditation or yoga as their mindfulness exercise, while others find that listening to music, reading, or simply going for a walk helps clear their minds. Breathing techniques and grounding exercises are also extremely popular. Exercise, in general, is proven to boost your mental health and fight symptoms of anxiety and depression, as is getting enough sleep. Beyond that, try to eat a healthy diet full of all the nutrients your body needs. It might surprise you how often a nutritional deficiency can contribute to mental health struggles.

My admission should be as short as possible so as to not cause unnecessary trauma and there need to be more places that I can go to if I can’t go straight home when I’m ready to leave hospital. The power structures in inpatient settings also have to change, so that power is shared with people on the ward, particularly when they are from a marginalised group.

I have a plethora of mental issues that began in 6th grade and I proceeded to worsen indefinitely. I'm 32 now so that was about 20 years from now. I later found that I'm autistic so the mental issues made sense. I tried sorts of meds. I can't even begin to name them all there's so many over the 20 years. I ended up being on 300mg Bupropion, 150mg Venlafaxine and 5mg Olanzapine. But I was still having problems that ranged from general lack of any form of motivation, to extreme suicidal episodes. It wasn't till all other safer meds were tried that I reached a benzo prescription. It changed my life. I stopped being suicidal and started to be a functional person. Before my xanax script I was not in any way functional. Started low and ended on three, 1mg tablet, three times a day. So that's 90mg a month. I've been on xanax for over 3 years and before and after is night and day. I base this off my wife's observation as she knew me very well and had to deal with my bursts of self loathing. I haven't had a suicidal episode since starting xanax and nor am I always debilitated by issues. I take my pills at the same time everyday. I don't feel them anymore and that's fine, I'm not trying to get high. I don't feel my other 3 meds either. I've never ran out as I keep track of how many I have so I always make it to refill day. So Bupropion, venlafaxine, Olanzapine, and xanax I take every day and I may not be cured but I actually know what being happy is now. I used to say happiness wasn't an emotion, just a momentary lapse in misery. That was my mindset for about 15 years. I plan on taking these drugs forever. 3mg xanax works and hasn't stopped working and it's been years. If this medication became illegal or taken from me it would force me into the dark net and RC benzos. I don't want that but after knowing what not wishing I was dead constantly is like, I refuse to go back. Xanax saved my life. I realize I am probably part of like 1% that actually need it long term and have success longterm. It's for sure way over prescribed, but there are a very small amount of people like me that need it and have had their life saved by it. TLDR, Xanax saved my life but it probably won't save yours.

I agree. Propranolol is a beta blocker that was originally intended to treat high blood pressure. If you use it for anxiety, it can cause dangerous decreases in your blood pressure. Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine. You essentially pay a psychiatrist for Benadryl which has minimal effects on anxiety. It seems like they push any pharmaceutical drug that isn’t a controlled substance because they know that they can’t get in trouble if it’s not a scheduled drug.

I thought i"d ask my doctor a few years back about some sort of anxiety drug and she prescribed Alprazolam.. I typically only use it for travel and it's a light .25mg dosage and it definitely takes the edge off. I'll be watching more of these videos in case there are any alternatives because even though I only ask for a refill once every 3-4 months of 10 pills(.25mg).. I always feel paranoid they're gonna have a problem with refilling. I usually have a few left after the trip and I'll take a half one here or there if I wake up at 2:am and my minds racing.. they really help me fall back to sleep and not feel like a zombie in the morning.

Mom’s neurologist prescribed this for my elderly mom with dementia who gets aggressive. We had to have an intervention to prevent her from hurting herself and others in her memory facility. It seems to work, but I wish there was something else. Plus I’m concerned she’ll fall. She’s on a low dose as needed, but I’ll keep looking for alternatives to discuss with the doctor.

I’m not a doctor but I will say this: in elderly people with dementia Seroquel should be avoided if you decide to switch medications. I don’t know why but for some reason a lot of doctors overprescribe Seroquel to elderly patients with dementia despite the warning in the information pamphlet that it can increase the risk of sudden death in elderly patients suffering from dementia. Just my 2 cents.

In my personal opinion, if you have to take a benzo, Klonopin is a much better choice. It lasts a lot longer due to the longer half life and doesn't give you the awful side effects like blacking out and rebound anxiety.

You have to pretty much find a Psychiatrist to prescribe it these days... Most Normal Doctors won't prescribe Narcotics anymore.

been on it for over 12 years everyday. I use it when needed. But after a while. Your'e tollerence catches up and you need to take one to fell normal. Can be a godsend in panic attack though. We dont get extended release here
