I love this very specific era in gaming where you could advertise games purely on the basis of 'We've got a physics engine, throw shit around!'

Super underrated. Closest thing we have to a sequel/remake is Control. Fortunately, Control is badass.

Psi-Ops had such a cool concept and use of powers that just surprised no one ran with the concept, but with a larger budget. Just like MK titles of the 2000's, most of the VA's are so unknown, they don't even have pictures are there Imdb bios, the only with a profile is Ed Boon, who did some additional voice work. I've never seen a well known titls with so little cast info.

Legit, the one thing that cemented this game as a instant classic for me was it's theme song, "With My Mind" by Cold. I had always loved Tele and Psycho kinesis as powers ( telepathy is for nerds) and that song is the anthem for such powers. I saw someone do a MV for Akira with this song and it couldn't have been more perfect. Love this game and would love a sequel.

YES!!! The greatest physics based action game is HERE!! I still have it on my OG Xbox and this is still one of the most fun "super hero" (?) action games ever made. And while Second Sight by Free Radical also exists as a "Psychic action game", it was very a much a different game, based more around stealth and being a sci fi thriller than the sandbox of mayhem that Psi Ops was. AI Implant (the guys who made this) also did that Stranglehold game (their last one). As far as I remember (it was on Kotaku of all things) another game they did post Midway was some mobile game based on the NBC "Heroes" IP. Supposedly it was good, but I dont know and have no interest in mobile shits. EDIT: I also forgot about Psychonauts too, another game I own on Xbox OG (and on PC by coincidence). I basically own all 3 psychic games. lol.

This game really goes places, the story is not amazing but it does have some twists and turns. The powers level up in a fun manner, though there are some lame kind of stealth missions with psychic balls of energy that you have to avoid touching or else you die/explode.
@Paur4 жыл бұрын
Yea, the stealth was so glitchy. And I remember a part where you HAVE to go down a hallway with invisible bombs. Died so many times because it's so hard to judge their distance from you.

Psi Ops was incredible. The physics system working so smoothly on the original Xbox was breath-taking at the time. Also, once you get mind control, you can make the soldier kill themselves by clicking the thumbsticks (They never tell you that in game, I don't know why I remember).

Psi Ops was my favorite PS2 game growing up. Many, many hours spent getting all the gnomes and playing all the challenges. Not to mention the practice room! Many battles were fought there too!
@Aruges014 жыл бұрын
This was made by one of the Midway Chicago teams, the same one that later made John Woo Presents: Stranglehold. They wanted to make a sequel but since its sales were only respectable, not huge, it was deemed "Not Culturally Relevant" by marketing and a sequel was squashed. Fun fact, the prototype for Stranglehold was made using the Psi-Ops engine running on an original XBox.

As good as this game was, the Co-Op was the definition of tacked on. It was almost experimental in how bad it was. One player control's Nicky, the other shoots. It's as cumbersome and stupid as it sounds. Me and my brother were super excited to play the Co-Op until we realized what the gameplay entailed when only one character appeared on screen. We ended up just playing Halo 2 and the RTCW port, haha.

I'd definitely like to see more. This game is great, although I remember the late-game enemies kind of being really annoying because they resisted your powers unless you used several of them in a specific order. But yeah there's like 4 different locations and the puzzles and level design get more interesting than in that first base, and while the story stays interesting (while staying at the same level of stupid of course).

There are several levels and the training room might be fun to play around with. You have infinite life and powers and you can do things like mess with objects or call on enemies to torment.
