Xendrius do you believe in demons to that extent bruv? I'm curious because I feel like when people depict something demonic through pictures for example, it doesn't necessarily mean they have tapped into it's true power, assuming it even exists.

It's called "Social Proof". We frequently look to others to determine correct behavior ("She stood up, I should stand up to"). Dr. Robert Cialdini explains it in his book, "Influence". It also leveraged operant conditioning from B.F. Skinner (They stood and sat even without the initial people left and the rest learned to stand)

Derren is one of the most brilliant humans of all time. I must have seen all his videos and live shows.... everyone of them is epic. Make your way through them over time. He should be world famous by now but I am guessing that he either didn't make a push for America or he did and was shunned by powerful industry players who were worried that he would awaken too many sheep

No, we are all living biological organisms. And all mobile living biological organisms (and some immobile) exhibit this behavior. The only people who don't exhibit this behavior in some large capacity are brain damaged individuals. For instance, do you yawn when you see someone YAAAAAWWN? Autistic people don't.

Simon Lavelle If anything, he’s going to dumb himself down. That is also under the complete premonition that he’ll even stay in the United States to continue with his specials since he’s had a largely successful career in Europe and garnered a large following in England especially, even while becoming a very household name. I’d also go as far to say that he won’t need to dumb himself down, because the criteria of people that are interested in psychological illusionists are also the people that tend to have a deeper understanding or interest of the human mind. I’d venture as far as to also say that there’s a strong possibility that people who are backwards and uneducated will have a naturally negatively biased opinion of Derren to begin with, so I doubt they’d watch him.

Happened to me recently. There were two ATMs but everyone was only using one, and there was a long line. Just as I was getting to the front of the line, a bank employee comes out and asks why we were only lining up for one Atm when both ATMs were working. I felt really dumb for just joining the long line instead of using my brain

There's utility to such behavior or we wouldn't do it. For example, it appears that one ATM is broken, so we take the shortcut of relying on others' experiences trying to use that ATM. It would be impossible to figure out everything for ourselves, especially in other situations where danger is involved, like if we start doubting that some plant is poisonous to eat (think more prehistoric times without books or internet to check). I think it's somewhat related to superstitions and traditions. We continue doing what worked for others, but we have moments where we stop to question. The people who go too far, doubting everything, are foolish in their own way, adopting paranoid delusions, conspiracy theories. So there's a balance for the best approach.

He’s done very well for himself! I remember he did a show at my Hall of Residence in Bristol in 1999. One guy was hypnotised so much he fell on face (he leaned too heavily on the alien that he was convinced had walked in front of him). Derren was already brilliant back then and even stayed behind after the show to just chat with a bunch of us. Seemed like a lovely chap.

I remember something like this happening to me. I'd recently moved to London and had to get the underground train to university. The underground station had two access tunnels to the station platform, one left, one right. Every morning all the commuters, myself included, would walk down the left hand tunnel which was always very crowded and uncomfortable at rush hour. One morning I just thought "where does that other tunnel go?". Then noticed a sign showing that it went to exactly the same platform - both tunnels ended up in the same place but everyone always went left, even with signs showing both routes were possible. Always went right after that, and it was always much less crowded. Everyone just followed everyone else without even thinking about it.

you could also argue that it's a dymanic in science, there are processes you must do in order to establish whether your hypothesis is accurate enough to use as a model, it must also be peer reviewed. I like the science version over religion though. although science does encourage people to think for themselves, there is a little peer pressure hidden in there too.

There’s an age old test similar to this that was done with monkeys. A group of monkeys were put in a cage and at the top of a pedestal were fresh bananas. Every time one monkey tried to go and get them all the monkeys were sprayed with ice cold water. After a time they stopped trying to get them as they knew the consequences. They then replaced one of the original monkeys with a new monkey who tried to get the bananas but was attacked by the remaining monkeys who knew the consequences. One by one they replaced the original monkeys until all that remained were monkeys who had never been sprayed by cold water, but who nonetheless were conditioned not to try and get the bananas.

And I'm not proud of this- I am someone who is often told, "You can't ask that!" or "That's tactless" etc, whereas I bet those 3 women who followed suit have probably never been told that they are tactless or embarrassing in their everyday lives. As a society we need this mix of super-sociable people and ones who don't always follow suit. All personality types are valuable for different situations.

This is why I feel uncomfortable in large groups of strangers, they tend to act as a hive mind. Become identical to each other and when you don't comply to that you'll find yourself outnumbered which your reptile brain is telling you is dangerous. That's when fight, flight or freeze mode sets in. Neither of which are good causes of action when there's a formal ritual taking place. I guess it's best to in such situations try reach anyone's true persona under the fake persona that they put on to fit in. Easier said than done since that is going to put them in a similar situation.

What is a religion? There are many "religions" that are not religions in the classical term of religion. Everyone is part of a religion. And in these days, to practice "a religion" is way more "standing out of line", than not be practicing one. Not saying there are no social dynamics in religions, because it is always and everywhere, unless you live all by yourself in the middle of nowhere.

For me I think for the first two times it would only be because I would think well maybe someone is coming or we are going to have to lsiten to some voice talking so thats why. Like If you are in a classroom or whatever and everyone goes to their desks, I dont want to be standing there when soneone comes to talk so I THEN have to go and sit down

Maybe there's nothing wrong with "the norm" or instincts. Maybe we have that natural instinct for a reason. I think it helps us be socially aware of others instead of just independent jerks

No there’s nothing inherently wrong with the herd mentality. It’s a biological imperative that helped early humans to survive, and it still has a great deal of social utility today. Having said that, it’s also useful to be aware of how powerful the herd mentality can be; sometimes people will accept horrible behaviour when it seems as if everyone else is doing it. I think it’s important to not always let the group decide what’s right for you.

@@callofdutymuhammad Her portrayals were often sincere, but I couldn't shake the feeling that her beginnings with Fox hadn't left her. If she had turned over a new leaf, and let's say her allegations about NBC are true, she wouldn't have turned to Fox as a valid source. Her annunciation on Fox made her loyalties and prejudice known-- the sicerity was an act.

At 3:33 the lady who didn't conform says she asked the lady next to her if they had to stand and she shook her head, but although the film has no breaks we don't see that happen.
