PSYCHOLOGY MASTERS SELECTION WEEK | My experience + tips/advice as a South African student

In South Africa, studying psychology is a long process that requires you to experience masters selection week since you need this degree to practice as a psychologist. As I am currently an honours student, this was my first selection week experience and it was as brutal as it is infamously known to be. If you are going to apply for masters, I wish you all the best and hope that this video helps you in one way or another :)

Ur question about making the program more suitable for the SA context was bomb because yep, that's a huuuge struggle. More ppl like u r needed in the profession to make the necessary changes

That was my struggle yoo the trauma is real but I have come to believe that those barriers hit those hardest who are meant to be in the profession and I just have a feeling about you so please DO NOT GIVE UP especially if this is your calling. I really do pray that you are able to get the bursary that you spoke of in your other video and get the chance you deserve but then I also hope that you come back to SA and help us fight this very necessary battle. What sort of experience/volunteer work have you done to help you gain experience?

I worked for my university’s call center and also volunteered via their community outreach programs 🤗 If you want to acquire volunteering hours, I would *highly* suggest checking out a website called “Cognition & Co”, there is a very nice list on all places that accept volunteers ❤️❤️

Rose Mahao on most websites a 65% average is the minimum but because of how competitive it is and how few the spaces are - I would recommend doing your absolute best and also applying to as many universities as possible 🙏 I have a video on my tips for getting distinctions in psych if you’re interested 🤗 Thank you so much and all the best on your journey ✨✨

No it’s not, each university that offers the program accepts 6-8 students
