Today we're looking at how common sense and psychology are two very different things! While common sense is a culture's "common knowledge" about the world, psychology is the scientific study of how we think, feel, and act.
Despite differences, psychology and common sense can work very well together. The more psychology informs us about people, the better our common sense thinking becomes!

As my teacher used to say, "common sense is not so common after all." I'm an engineer, and sometimes human beings are very much like machines. They're both complex objects, but if you know the machine well enough, you can predict its performance. Psychology is engineering, but for humans. This may explain the overlapping interest that I have in this field. Thanks I thoroughly enjoyed your video

THERE ARE AREAS WHERE COMMON SENSE IS ONLY DEVELOPED. Like in construction, people without play experiences as a child, have no common sense on a jobsite and are downright dangerous! Recently our host Drice Walker took on this subject on a live session.

If it is developed, then how can it be called common sense? There is no such thing as common sense. This is why there are safety drills on jobsites. This is also why welders for example need to be trained. kzbin.info/www/bejne/emq7d2OHhN-Kg5I

@@berranari1 Some people come to job sites fresh out of high school and perform greatly better on safety than some attending safety drills for years… When you ask these individuals how they know these things so well, they think it over and many of them, attribute their skills to things like observation and playtime as a kid!!! Which is learned behavior, like EVERYTHING ELSE humans pick up and learn through life… Things that become so common in societies that we call common sense. Drice walker’s take on this: and I quote: “There is a lot in between common sense and nonsense!”

@@XPlanNation Thanks. All of what you write makes sense to me. "Things that become so common in societies that we call common sense" You seem to agree with me that it is all learned. In humans. Flies have common sense. We call it instinct. Or they have really fast reactions that make them look like they have sense. But they do get born with the knowledge of how to fly. I want people to stop using the term common sense entirely. I think it is bad. Especially since it is a cultural concept. In Fiji it is not nice to touch someone on the head, even a child. Every group has developed different standards and practices.

Psychology was able to explain in detail what I felt or experienced for example by watching youtube videos on Narcissism I now know how a narcissist operates, the games they play and how they react to someone discovering them. Immediately it hit me hard that certain people I know exhibit these exact behaviours and have been playing games with me for a long time. Now it's time to RUN! as advised in the videos.😂😂😂

It is “common sense”around here that common sense and experience are two different things and that one is born with or without common sense. People claiming to have common sense say things like “Jon has no common sense”. Can this common sense notion of common sense be tested?
