Recently someone asked him in an interview what he liked the most about being a dad. And his answer was something about "participating in the perpetuation of humankind by giving your DNA" or something like that. Something completely disconnected from the actual experience of being a dad. He is pretty scary to me.

He’s working on helping disabled people to see and do other things through nuerolink (although from what I hear, the technology doesn’t work well yet).
@ShimmerBodyCream5 ай бұрын
@@andedom Villains are complicated - and we all have the hero and villain archetype present in our psyche. The prototypical villain characteristics include self aggrandizement, desire for power, self-interest at the detriment of the wider population, and destruction on a large scale. I think you could safely argue almost any billionaire is a villain because of global dynamics and how we exploit one section of the population for the enrichment of a very small elite. Elon wants to continue the hierarchal system of exploitation, he brags about firing people, he has many children that he doesn't spend time with, he actively uses his business to influence world events to benefit himself, etc. It makes a lot of sense to consider him a villain because villains are about self enrichment. I would agree that no one truly is a villain or a hero - these are simply labels we use to create ideals of behavior as a social animal.

I came to have a view that EM and I (and many of my friends) were in the same 'tribe'. I jumped into computing in the mid-70's, and we all shared an interest in scifi, the same computer jokes, logic riddles, the same culture, that of being nerdy guys, willing to delve deeply into a body of knowledge. In the last few years going from that to feeling like if some good folks could take him aside over a beer, we could talk him down, to genuine puzzlement over his support of far-right figures. The Twitter takeover was bad but his echoing of the Paul Pelosi slander was the turning point for me. Maybe he was mugged by a liberal. In any case, the man holds his grudges mightily. A lot of information isn't openly shared. You'll never find it. For example, you won't find anything about the LORD Corporation and his mishandling of adhesives from that company, creating massive safety issues, then trying to blame LORD corporation, LORD corporation came out to try to solve the issue, and Musk was like an abusive weirdo who wanted these LORD corp employees to solve an issue but wouldn't let Tesla employees talk to LORD corp people... Wouldn't show them around... like invites them there and hides everyone and everything. Acted so weird. He was storing the separate parts of adhesive (its not premixed, for many reasons) in hot pole barns in Nevada desert although they cannot be stored at that temperature, but he wanted to do it cheaply, it's all he had, doesn't heed warnings or instructions, doesn't care. Didn't care about safety. He might hire good people, but he muzzles them, then fires them. Also, he buys pieces of old assembly lines from Ford and other automotive companies, pieces parts, all these companies make fun of him and aren't afraid of Tesla because they are literally death traps. You cannot take parts of multiple assembly lines that cannot work together. Assembly lines are all different and engineered down to the micron. You cannot mix bits of separate assembly lines in the way he is doing it. I know these things because I am closely knitted into these communities through my career. And this is tip of the iceberg. I will never get into a Tesla. I am terrified by how people think he even talks wisely about things; he doesn't. He is a megalomaniac.
@puddlesplasher75 ай бұрын
May I also add, he didn't care about the outcome... he just bought assembly line portions to keep investors fleeced, get some deliverables (cars) appearing to be completed, but if you guys recall, that was delayed delayed delayed and the first ones caught on fire and had adhesives fail that held batteries and stuff (oh and he decided he'd use the mishandled adhesive ingredients anyway although told not to by manufacturer) .... He knew this would happen. It's all show biz baby, fleecing the investors. I don't know what he actually does care about. That's why I'm listening in, to hear y'all's perspectives.

This is the first time I am commenting on your videos, psychology in seattle. I like that you called out that extreme polarization is not a good thing to have. We all have very different definitions of what’s moral and ethical and that may certainly play into this dynamic we are in. What are the moral obligations of CEOs and business people? We are in a capitalistic society and if we judge someone based on the premise of capitalism, one who makes the most amount of money for themselves is good. But we, as humans, do operate in a capitalist way (we try not to, to the extent we can though many aspects of our lives are commodified by the bigger people anyway) and we look at Elon with a more human lens. And then we may find him distasteful. And I wonder if such people know if human beings exist outside of being resources. And have we, as a society, failed. I would love to know your interpretations of morality here. Please correct me if i am wrong - I think we use the term ‘psychopath’ colloquially to refer to a person who has no regard for others and is also likely very immoral. And that implies that we expect people, these CEOs, to be moral. And are CEOs moral? Why does Elon Musk have our attention to this much of an extent that other CEOs never did? What’s with these personality cults? I am very interested in your upcoming videos and I hope I can adopt a more nuanced view with your help instead of writing him off as a villain. (I wish we could have some philosophers also here ). Huge fan!

Agreed, Musk is more of an Edison than a Tesla. While Edison bought ideas, Tesla had original thoughts and created them. However, Musk was not an illegal immigrant to the U.S. He came to the U.S. on an F1 student visa while attending school. After dropping out of Stanford, he transitioned to an H-1B (worker) visa. He later obtained an EB-5 (immigrant investor) visa and became a U.S. citizen in 2002 after marrying an American. There was a period where he didn’t have a visa, which is when he stopped working and started the business with his brother. That time frame is undocumented.

Be true to what you believe. People are confident sounding when not hopping the fence to please others, by preaching what you dont believe in. You cant and shouldnt try to please everyone. Elons a dork and likes to put on a dramamatic show for anyone who will watch. I dont think he cares unless he wants to borrow your $$$.

Discuss all the scams he's been part of, like SolarCity, Hyperloop, and the perpetual promise of 'self-driving cars next year.' He's a smart manipulator, but the ideas behind his projects come from other people-this is a fact. He's not an engineer, nor is he a programmer. You should look into statements from people who used to work with him and have since left. For instance, if you didn’t know, NASA achieved vertical rocket landing over 50 years ago. He frequently lies, and yet no one seems to fact-check him. Many people fall for it because they’re simply too trusting.

Elon Musk is such an interesting person. He’s totally a genius and you could study him just for how exceptional his mind is alone. But he’s also remarkably immature! And emotionally detached. Having a high IQ does not guarantee a high EQ and that’s fascinating to watch

This is not a balanced discussion when you have one person who hates Elon and calls him a conman and another who openly hates Trump.

There aren't many, normal, sane, intelligent people who won't recognize that Elon is a command & Trump is the worst, moat-devisive president in the history of the US. The kind of people that YOU WOULD listen to.....done sound like normal or grounded people.

@@yemio1005yes, it’s a show based on psychology. Most doctors and psychologists understand that bias is never a good thing in analysis. It can be detrimental.

I’m always open to differing perspectives… but can no longer be a patron. The language chosen was loaded. It feels like an unconscious bias here. “Deplorable” is very telling. The trigger warning that you’d be hard on Elon. I’ll move on and wish you well. Sorry to have announced the departure. That isn’t a thing for me. I believe y’all may have baseline beaucracies opinions and dogmas. The tenants of those concepts do not appeal to my core values.

It’s interesting to listen to this post-election. He’s about to have a lot more power than I think many of us could imagine a few weeks ago. Turns out his aligning with Trump was not so terrible of a bet to make on his part. Sucks for the rest of us though. Whatever he brings us while in Trump’s cabinet is not gonna be good for anyone not in his class of wealth. 🥲
