This song hit deep for me. It is always a fine line when it comes to medicine. We just want to feel 'not awful', or something close to normal, but the things that work are usually the ones to be careful about.

As a disabled combat veteran with severe PTSD and depression, I struggle daily with suicidal ideations and addiction. These types of reactions are my therapy because i quit going to therapist after playing this song to my therapist. Ive never gone back. Thanks for this.

I wish I could find a therapist like you. Unfortunately i have tried many, even in different states, none suited to treat someone like me. I have a very difficult diagnosis and suspect I have been misdiagnosed many times. You give me so much comfort. Sometimes sharing music is my only form of communication or to express my feelings and emotions, and it means a lot when someone just listens and gives genuine feedback. Thanks for what you do. You have covered many of my comfort songs, this being one of them!

Sorry I'm late to this but as someone who has suffered with a decade long addiction until 8 months ago and severe anxiety (which led to the addiction) both since 15 years old I believe I can offer some insight here. Firstly, you need to listen to this song in the context of someone in withdrawal who is drug seeking. this is why at first his attitude towards the psychologist and pastor seems harsh, because it is. But when you feel that unwell which intensifies every negative thought, physical feeling and emotion you have the only thing you want is the drug that can make it stop. But as I learned myself, that only intensifies the cycle. You see the only person trying to help you as an enemy as in that moment they are the ones standing between you and the drug of choice, and thus relief of withdrawal. The anxiety of that withdrawal literally makes you act out and you would risk everything to quell those feelings. This is not to excuse those who commit horrific crimes in order to get their fix by victimising others, but it lends a little bit of reasoning to why those who feel they have nothing to lose do these things. Thankfully i never stooped that low but i have taken medication from people who needed it more than me for selfish purposes and am extremely regretful, ashamed and embarrassed that I could even think about doing that. There has also been times where in a state of withdrawal I've thought about taking Heroin because I couldn't get my hands on opiates. I have deceptively told doctors I had chronic pain when i didn't in order to get a prescription, and i've also attempted suicide multiple times in order to make the withdrawals stop for good. Most of this caused by the anxiety of uncertainty of how I get out of that situation and seeing death as the easiest way. A heck of a lot is to do with dopamine and overstimulated dopamine receptors which cause you to have a total lack of motivation to seek the things that would give a normal person the correct dopamine hit that reinforces that seeking behavior. Dopamine is often seen as a reward chemical but in nature it is not supposed to be, it's supposed to be the neurotransmitter that reinforces positive behavior like hunting or foraging for food. water, procreating, social bonding etc. the end result should be the reward and dopamine should be the motivator to get the end result. But our modern lives, overexposure to digital/social media, porn, junk food, gambling, drugs, even shopping all give us too much dopamine in the wrong context and throw everything else off sync causing addiction as you need to seek more and more to get the same level of reward. Addiction can be summed up like this: Addiction is a progressive narrowing of the things that bring you happiness, in all cases of addiction. If you engage in any of these behaviours too often without abstaining for a decent length of time and just being bored, you will become less and less entertained and happy. You need periods of unhappiness to maintain periods of happiness. You need periods of discomfort to feel comfort. Just like you need periods of disruption to feel peace. This is arguably one of the most important things people need to know who are unhappy and binge on media for example. Today this happens to everyone in some form. As for what happens to me, I tend to withdraw completely from society and seeing anyone else because my thoughts get in the way of actually doing anything. I convince myself i won't enjoy my time with others and still don't have the motivation to do so, even though I know I do when I'm actually already with people. Yet every single day before I have to do anything socially (shopping, meeting friends, working, even things as trivial as going to the post box even or answering my front door, phone, even reading texts or seeing my family) I'm overcome with negative thoughts and I really don't understand how to stop it. I always listen to music when I'm outside but even that has become a trigger for anxiety more than it helps because I've done it for so long and accidentally conditioned myself, to this day. Im free of the drugs but im still riddled with anxiety that stems from PTSD from getting attacked so much as a teenager and has bled into every other aspect of life. Also sorry this is so long I went on a tangent, but it's imperative to know this to understand this song, and thus anxiety and addiction, even if you didn't know you were suffering from addiction.

i heard this song a long time ago, im a person with diagnosed bi polar 1 but its not an extreme version is more so a rare occurance for a full blown mania which happened twice during the pandemic but manic depressive epsiodes are more common expeirences, GED (peak anxiety levels causes me to hear as many as 6 voices attacking me inside my head at the same time)and nighmare syndromes which i had vivid nightmares that i could vividly remember that happened 5+ days a week(which is havent been diagnosed how exactly i got but but have an idea of when my mental health went out of control and i was hearing voices in my head to a uncontrolled thyroid which might have formed a minor form of ptsd which is how nightmare syndrome is triggered more of the time) while on no meds then finding out i had hypothyroidism which is where the whole puzzle came together more clear. ive had nothing but bad problems with bi polar meds and that was before i knew i had a bad thyroid and you arent suppose to take active bi polar meds for people who have hypothyroidism. last time i took actice bi polar meds i gained 30 pounds in 3 weeks from the meds which was roughly a 20% increase in body weight in that short of a span. i take seroquel for sleep and during any eipsode, i have taken the kitchen sink for anxiety meds but nothing has ever worked for me but benzos so im prescribed 3mg of klonopin a day which was formed with my doctor at first because i needed helpa nd coudlnt find a psych in vegas to help me since no one took my insurance but state facility which is a hell hole. when i got a psych who knew my doctor she was hesitant about the dosages i take and long term side effects which im more worried about the life im living now which she let it be but over time of now seeing her for over 2 years now she agrees with my dosage after getting to know me and she doesnt hand them out like candy, im tied for ther highest dose out of all her patients(im understand what comes with it and the future possiblities completely). the hard part was nightmare syndrome as it is a newer categorized diagnosis and there is only 1 medicine on the market that was fda approved for it and it turned out that the med shouldnt have ever been approved as it can make them actually worse, do nothing at all and only a small % if works for which i was given and it didnt do shit for me. i had to find studies for nightmare syndrome which last time i checked there was only 2 and both focused on gabapetin which in both studies had a very high rate of success with some catches. 1. gabapetin still caused dreams but were not longer nightmares and were either normal or weird dreams 2. the dose size int he test depending the severity had doses between 300-3600. my lucky is i need at least 900 which doesnt always work but 1200 has always worked but trying to get a psych to understand that is hard because they are use to giving 300 to maybe 600 mg for anxiety for addicts. this all hurt my brain thinking about this and how stressful the last few eyars have been and how it keeps happening with the death of my cat who slept with me everything i was in my bed for 10 years 4 days ago, it was the 2nd cat i lost during the pandemic which the other one i bottle fed because her mom died 24 hours after birth. i know its a wall of text but i think the therapist might find this interesting and if this can help someone even a lil then it was worth it. now im going to bed

Hey I love your channel. Great reaction! Im a HUGE, HUGE NF fan (he’s probably my favorite artist ever) but since you’re already on his journey, I was hoping I could request a song that really resonates with me. Im a recovering addict, but barely. I am a chronic relapser. I get 2 years, something bad happens in life (death of fam member, bad break up of long term relationship, my mom lies and says she clean when she never had been, I step on a lego piece lol) and this song just always makes me think whether Im sober in the moment or not. Im also a writer (not a professional but as a side thing, Im pretty good too) and I just appreciate the way it’s raw, honest, and is digestible (for a meaningful rap son. Hopefully you can put it on thd list; I don’t mind a long wait either. I would just appreciate the thought. Thanks in advance for the consideration! 🙏
