As a now 36-year-old, it's still strange to realize that not everyone has this self defeating constant internal monologue because it's been such a huge part of my life since I was a kid. My mom still says things like, "Why would you think that", "Stop overthinking", "Stop being paranoid", etc, and I want to reply with, "Sure, I'll get right on that." Well, she would if I actually told her anything anymore but don't because I know what she'll say. This is probably the only Linkin Park song whose lyrics don't usually make me more depressed than I already am, so yay for that. It really is spot on, though, for what it's describing.

God, they were so young back then! A truly exceptionable band who found a niche and kept widening that towards different styles throughout the years. Still pissed that I listened to critical articles and only listened to the post-Minutes-to-Midnight-albums much later than I should have. They are all great in their own way, and whenever I hear a song come on in my car (I've now got all of their albums!), I get sad that we won't get more of them. *sigh*
@Maibuwolf2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure mike has said linkin park will be making more music eventually. When it will happen and how things will go without chester on vocals remains to be seen. Mike has always been the main creative force behind LP though so i am hoping they will still be putting out good music.
@frizzlethecat20842 жыл бұрын
@@Maibuwolf I heard that, too. I don't know how well that would work for me, but I will be giving them a chance, for sure. The creative force is, of course, the main ingredient but they were also very lucky that they and Chester worked so well together. I imagine it would be very hard to find the right balance without him because his vocals were just something .... something. Damn... I don't think any artist's death ever left such a pang of loss in my heart.

One of the best songs i've heard , just like everything Chester sung, they did timeless music🙌🔥
@JustinSmith-ux1th2 жыл бұрын
The song itself is really good. But I think people are looking over the video and the visuals. The band is in a nice room the self projection that we show to people. But behind the walls of our mind are are ugly nasty thoughts. And those rooms could represent fear, doubt, trauma et cetera. And when those and those thoughts get so strong they start bleeding over into The nice room. Which means We cannot hide what we feel inside anymore.

@@EffnShaShinko that's true man all it takes is something small to go over the edge when you have so much built up inside. That's why we need outlets let go of all of it for me it's prayer, music, talking to people.
@willvr42 жыл бұрын
@@EffnShaShinko That could be true. My interpretation was always that the papercut is invisible to everyone else (inner thoughts/fears/anxieties/trauma etc) but is so painful and affects your every day life.
@nyxdarkness12 жыл бұрын
I think you're spot on with your description of a papercut, and I think that's why the song is called that. The subjects are all things that happen behind the scenes, in our minds. You can't see the wounds or scars that we're dealing with, but there's still a great amount of pain there. A papercut is inconspicuous, unassuming; other people can't see the cut, but its always there, and you're always aware of it (at least until the literal papercut heals). Good reaction here, this song always hits close to home.
@joridios__1412 жыл бұрын
Immagine being like 14-16 in 2001. While in school you hear your friends talking about a new nu-metal-band. You go home and listen to that band, after hearing only the first song from their debut album you're like damn this is something big.

Linkin Park!!!! The only band that i've been listening to for 20+ years and STILL enjoy them just as much as the first time I heard them. I listen to them almost every day on the way to work. Can't wait to c if they ever decide to make new music even tho it will be extremely hard to find someone that can take over after Chester.

I love them so much. I had a very bad breakup that threw me into severe depression for about a year. Gained a shit ton of weight.Their album Hybrid Theory helped pull me out.. I worked the overnight shift at a nursing home and decided to walk every morning after I git off no matter how tired I was. I'd just pop their cd into my Walkman, put on my headphones and off I'd go. I walked to the beat of the music. Ended up losing 80 pounds and the depression went away. So I am ever so thankful to LP for their amazing music and helping me to cope. Also RIP to Chester. So very sadly missed.

I saw Linkin Park and Incubus co-headline a show at Jones Beach Amphitheatre during a lightning storm that was off in the stance over the Atlantic Ocean. Probably the best and most memorable concert I've ever been to. I never give a flying fuck when some celebrity dies 99% of the time. The only 2 times it really hit me hard, was Chester Bennington and Anthony Bourdain.

Linkin Park and Pink (I know weird combo) but their songs are so deep and relatable in every way. Their music helps heal my soul and is just the best at bringing out what I need to grieve at that moment 💯. If you have more reactions of both of those I'd join patreon in a heartbeat. Best price for therapy that i can handle without stressing to the max. Autually works for me mentally and emotionally which makes the physical part of life easier to handle.

To me, this song is saying that your inner critic can be like a death by a thousand papercuts
@JaggerG Жыл бұрын
There's a thing that makes papercuts so bad-it hurts multiple times: once on the initial tearing of the skin, and again as your blood oozes through, tearing it open repeatedly, throbbing along to your pulse. Effectively, most of the pain is caused from the inside, as a result of the original trauma that didn't look bad at first.

Linkin Park was a big part of growing up and playing sports back in their prime. Their best albums were Hybrid Theory and Meteora, as many will agree. Sadly, Chester Bennington died in 2017. It was a controversial death, in the sense that it may have been made to look like a suicide. He allegedly, was working to expose corruption in high places, and that made him a target. These songs are nostalgic; reminiscent of times past. Great reaction Tom.

They may have not said "papercut", but it strikes me as a metaphor or a kind of clue. I mean in that all it would take for that darkness and filth inside me/us/them to come out and be what's on our outside, as well as inside, is something as minor and superficial as a papercut. In other words, it wouldn't take much more than one little fissure in my skin/armor to spring that crap free from it's cage inside us, and out into the world. IDK though. I am neither a poet or psychotherapist.
