What I love about this part is that from the beginning and all throughout the song you can hear these 3 notes in the background going low-mid-high-mid-low-mid-high, and at that part it's the only time where it breaks into a proper melody for the climax of the song. Amazing.

This song is really personal to me. Sometimes I tear up a little toward the end when he’s singing “the sun goes down / I feel the light betray me.” Probably my favorite from LP and one of the best ever. As the opener on their debut album Hybrid Theory, you could argue that this changed music. It was a revolutionary sound. Chester was someone who battled with depression and what I get from the video is that its a metaphor. They're in this room of gold and fancy shit, but behind the walls there's ugly and a festering growth. In the end, it starts to break into the room, showing that the ugly thoughts or depression is winning and taking over the mask of happiness that they put on for their family, friends, and fans.

Everyone needs some type of hardship. This song is symbolism at its finest. The name papercut. You ever had a papercut? The smallest slice can be the most annoying and painful and to the people that have depression and overthink and feel another part of them inside of their head sometimes the smaller things can pile on top of you. It can make you paranoid, it can make you second guess everything. For me this means "if all of the small things go so wrong for me, theres no way the big things will ever go my way." feeling that way can be worse on you at night when your alone in your head in the dark and you cant sleep because "the face inside" your brain wont shut off and you think and overthink to the point you stress yourself so much you get paranoid of making any positive moves in your life. Never give up. Always talk to people. Verbalizing these things can be a huge relief. Dont feel like your alone. We all go through it.

Great, now I have to go on a binge of LP videos and feel sad about losing my childhood singer. Good video, always loved sharing LP music with eveyone, their reaction was always usually a positive one.
@fridamarias Жыл бұрын
just for background, Chester suffered from depression and died from it so he probably sang A LOT about what he felt in his person which I can see in so many songs of theirs. A lot of their songs is just about deep emotional hardships that's sometimes hard to understand what they are and where they come from. It's just so sad that he succumbed to it like so many other depression victims.

I'm pretty sure the room is like the box where his conscious mind is describing the rest of his mind from. Right out side the walls are the rest of the things going on, all those voices feeling him he isn't good enough and all those eyes watching him every time he makes a mistake. Inside the room he only thinks they're there, beyond the walls that actually are. Inside the room is reality, beyond it are the things he knows are there but can't see. It adds to the song's theme of mental health and perception of the world around you.
@cgrandall6258 ай бұрын
I would always play this song on repeat to get hyped before a football game. To me the lyrics were a metaphor for how we can all be drastically different people than the faces we present to others and that other persona is only skin deep, like a papercut away.
