I've been the whole alcohol and depression suicide tendency peson . I get to be 60 10/03/2022 I was on a hard road . I'm a rapid cycling bi power person . I found campers really helpful for cravings of all kinds it kinda puts a chill on it. 3 times a day is a pain but so was 25/7 career of drinking a suicide ideation. Im sober and content , I'm stable for maybe the first time in my life and for that I'm grateful .

Thought maybe it was just me, but my depression has been brutal after being on this for a short time. (a couple weeks) Stopping it asap, and seeing my Dr tomorrow. Glad I saw this vid, so I know there's a light at the end of the tunnel when this is out of my system.

I would categorize alcohol abuse disorder as self harm, it’s literally killing the person. I’ve been sober for a few years now and Camprel has been a massive help.

Did you stop drinking first or was it helpful to stop. Ive tapered down but it's a big struggle to break a few drinks a night with an occasional relapse to maybe 6 to 8 drinks
@ImTrimax11 ай бұрын
If you drink everyday you need a proper detox with librium for a week otherwise you might have a heart attack, seizures etc. You then go on these for 3 months afterwards at 2 333mg tablets 3 times a day

It has helped me massively. I did stop drinking before starting.

I tried Naltrexone first but I hated the way it made me feel. Doc prescribed me Acamprosate (Campral) and my experience has been very positive. Barely noticed any side effects and no changes in my mood but it removes my desire to drink. I was a very heavy daily drinker and I mostly don’t even think about drinking now. I don’t take any other medication, just Campral

For alcoholism: I'd recommend two things: Alan Carr's "Easy Way" (to adjust your attitude towards alcohol), and Acamprosate (to help you through the early weeks of hyper-excitement and cravings)

I had forgotten what real energy felt like, yeah, it’s been over 2 years and I don’t crave a drop of alcohol, the key difference was that I didn’t suffer withdrawal, not even within the first days after go’ogling Steffon Barkload and genuinely quitting because I wanted to.

thank you so much, I am from Germany and I think here there are some studies for that. I can only say it helps to reduce my craving. (my self harm has gotten to a point where doctors said it was very similar to an addiction.) my antidepressants are working really good at the moment so maybe that is why suicidal thoughts aren't getting worse (or are there). I will look up if I can find the studies but I don't know if you can do anything with them, due to them being in German.

I love that you actually take the time to answer folks, you got a new subscriber. So what im getting from this is it will only work in those that now longer drink? Is this able to be used before stopping to help curb cravings?
@ShrinksInSneakers Жыл бұрын
We would recommend a patient stop drinking before starting it, but it's not essential. We known many patients struggling with addiction will relapses. Bottom line, relapse is not a reason to stop and the Occasional slip up should not change the treatment

I’m getting put on them but I can’t swallow tablets at all, I know I’ve read you aren’t supposed to crush them but I can only ever chew my tablets, would it be so bad to chew them or should I just say not to get them ?
@ShrinksInSneakers3 жыл бұрын
We worry about crushing or chewing medication when there is an extended release mechanism. I do not believe that is the case here, but talk to your doctor about that plan before making any changes. There is also intramuscular nalterxone called vivitrol which can help when taking oral medication is an issue. Hope this helps

Absolutely..alcohol and acamprosate are deadly on liver
@ShrinksInSneakers3 жыл бұрын
This is not true, it's excreted unchanged by the kidneys. renal impairment is a contraindication not hepatic, for naltrexone its hepatic issue you need to be mindful of
@ShrinksInSneakers3 жыл бұрын
this is correct you do not need to be off alcohol. However, it may not be as effective in the context of continued alcohol use. It's excreted by the kidneys unchanged and does adjustments need to be made for renal impairment not hepatic
@72steviec3 жыл бұрын
@@ShrinksInSneakers I was told by my GP and alcohol nurse at hospital, do not ever take acomprosate (Campral) with alcohol as it encourages the liver to fail quicker especially after 40 yrs of drinking..

@2highforthisshihh843 you're stating the obvious. But what isn't obvious is various degrees of other people's mental health. A trope like "toughen up" is what keeps some people from looking within and growing. Essentially sweeping the issue under the rug. I would argue that those who battle addiction and/or mental health are very "tough"
@2highforthisshihh843 Жыл бұрын
@@gabrielglenn1714 I understand there are underlying issues along with alcoholism… actual mental illness , or drug induced mental instability, so recovery isn’t for people that need it , it’s those that WANT it. You don’t want it then Continue using, but for us that make a conscious decision to get fkd up , we had a choice before we took the first drink, pill , snort… that’s what I’m referring to
