@@TRESSHOFF I believe you shouldnt use sync until you have absolutely mastered beatmatching. There is so much gear in the world that cant beatmatch or sucks at it. I only use sync on some live gigs, i never practice with it.

Then get ffed up when the older CDJ at the venue does't have a sync button. Or look unable to mix on vinyl even if you've been mixing for years with a display. Having options is nice, and you have the option to get better and closer to the analog feeling that got us all here :)

To all the sync button haters.... sync is there for a reason. To be used, period! It helps when u have too much going on at once. It saves time. But for it to work properly, ur beatgrids have to be on point, otherwise, ur mix will sound like a train wreck. Hence, it's important to make sure all ur tracks in ur library are prepared beforehand (setting cue points, name them, adjust the beatgrid if need be, etc...)

A decent dj will be able to lock the bpms in by ear within a couple of seconds. To me, that's part of the fun and how I learnt on the 1210s back in the day,I bought a controller last year, and even though there's a lot more you can do with it than you could with two turntables and a mixer,it's just not as fun.

Especially for beginners: I’d say the beat sync button is allowed ONLY to sync the bpm. Sometimes it’s hard to match the bpm with the tempo slider on smaller controllers.

only reason i use it for bpm my ddj400 has a super stiff slider so i cant ever really match the tempos with the slider

The only time I use the Sync button is to match the tempos, not to actually beat match. I find the tempo slider to be quite finicky on the DDJ 400 (the one this guy is using) A quick double tap of the Sync button just matches the tempo of the other deck.

Oh yes, the old double tap. You can also switch beat sync to bpm sync in RB. Sliders are a little small on this unit.

If you don't use sync but you use the graph you are not manually beatmatching either. So if you want to keep looking at the waveforms why not just use sync?

Bruh, sync button haters are still a thing? Get a life, because it's important for extremely quick mixing, beatmatching is important for sure because that's one of its core in DJing, but it's not helpful if you like mix 2 or more tracks at the same time in a very quick session, swallow the truth and press the sync button if necessary, even Phil Morse from Digital DJ Tips is aware of this and he still use the sync button sometimes and he uses the slider too, so both options are available at the DJ's reach for whatever is more useful

If it was illegal why do company’s put it on the controller? It’s a tool just like every other button. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Some people use it some people don’t. It does not define who you are as a Dj. Just like driving an automatic car vs a stick shift does not define you as a driver.

Watching people beat matching with a display telling them the exact tracks bpm is the biggest cringe ever. Beat matching is for all analog vinyl mixing by ear not the current age of all digital mixing. It is a waste of time and some what a way to look busy behind a mixer. People need to get over this whole idea of you need to be able to beatmatch to be a dj.

I would say if you want to give tips, you should do a full video. Beginners won't catch these in just a 1min recap, and more advanced people could but they already mastered these base concepts. So I'm struggling to find who is the audience. Also the beatmatch has not been done correctly to me, and we can hear a delay, while I'm sure you would have been able to do it in a longer video, rather than rushing. Just my opinion tho, and I wish you good luck!
