Great video! Loving your channel. One more trainwreck source I’ve encountered: relying on quantize when your track grid is wrong. Don’t hesitate to then Quantize (little red button on the left of the screen) off if your loops are wonky- but then don’t forget to turn it back on the next time you want to set a quantized loop.

Love this video, I think as DJs we appreciate the craft and like you say a car crash for us can go relatively unnoticed by the audience. I'm only a hobbyist, I tend to record my sets and then listen back and get very frustrated if they don't sound like I'd envisaged but I listened back to a "car crash" set recently only to find it wasn't as bad as I'd originally thought so maybe we're a bit too hard on ourselves sometimes 🤔

I remember when I first got decks, 20 years ago and I was the same. Record a mix, listen back and not be happy 😂 I used to try and do massive long mixes and often, it wouldn’t go well. I have a funny story . Well kinda. I just got decks and I said I’d do a mix cd for someone in work. He was a proper decent bloke and 1 of those decent “NICE” black blokes 😁 Anyway, I give him to tape and next day he came in and I can’t remember how he worded it, but let’s just say he basically said it sounded shit and my little heart was forever broken, Tom that moment. 😂😂😂😂😂

I have always favord the vinyl effect of brake which originates from my days on technique 1200's ( turntables) when if the Segway was going bad ,I could just hot the platter stop button and it stops in just over a quarter turn of the platter ...and w the new decks it's helpful to add echo when doing the brake as it blends the whole effects finale when doing so.

I too worry about the wrong gear stopping my career from taking off in 2058 lol Laidback Luke said something I really like about mistakes: which is if you do it 3 times it sounds like you did it on purpose. Doesn’t work all the time ovbs, but situationally you can make a mistake a happy accident instead sometimes. I use beat jump a lot like you used hot cues in one of your last tips-really depends on the genre and if there’s a strong build but jumping back 8/16 over and over when I realize the phrasing isn’t going to line up is a saver

nice and very useful videos. thanks so much. As a beginner Dj should I focus on beatmatching and harmonic transition? I can do that well enough but taking loops or using effects and transition between different genres and bpms seems very difficult. It has just been 6 months and I am working at a hotel and I have played during some parties and the crowd went crazy. So, should I just focus on beatmatching and transition or go for more complex methods?

If you want to take it to the next level, start practicing fun techniques that interest you. Honestly, though, as a DJ, your number one job is to make the crowd happy. If you can do that without any fancy techniques and are happy with that, then you've already arrived at being a successful DJ.

One of my friends also has their own clothing boutique store that regularly has a live dj, and I just asked if I could dj. My turntables didn't work the first time around so I just played music from my phone on spotify. @@Greasy_Thumbz Its there for things like, if your mixing track A at 80-100BPM to track B what is 128-130BPM, you can lock both tracks to track As bpm and use its tempo slider and use that to increase the bpm of both tracks at the same time while you transition going from 100- 128 leaving your right hand free to use channel faders and EQs and efx. its also for lets say if you want to off the cuff beat juggle in the middle of a set. something youll just be in a set mood and hear a track differently and want to beat juggle with another track. its there for so you can throw an acapella down and have it sync while you do a loop roll mix/drop...its there for many other things but making people look like they can dj when they cannot, so the taboo is simply the misuse of it
