D-Ray, you are the man. I have a 1990 Honda TRX300 4x4, with the very problem described in this series of your videos (i.e., bad right axle bearing and bad rear brakes). Your 4 part video was comprehensive in describing each stop to correct these problems. Thanks a ton.

Great videos! I own a 1986-7? Honda Fourtrax 200 that is 98% original. It's been sitting since 2008 in my brother's garage, 200+ miles South of me. I went there in October 2016 and put gas in the tank, aired the tires from flat, installed a new battery and put oil in the spark plug hole. Cranked it over four times and it fired right up!!! I about sh#t my pants, lol We rode it the entire week long Deer Gun Season in November/December and it made me SO proud!!!!! These Beasts are indestructible!!!!!!!

Hey D-Ray, thanks for the vid. I got mine all apart and before I assemble I wanted to ask you about a couple things. 1. Should I pack grease in the new right side bearing? Should I pack the section of the rear on the inside between the left and right bearings, where the shock is connected? 3.Should I use thread locker on the 4 axle nuts? 4.Where the black metal break cover connect to the rear with the 6 bolts, should I grease around the rubber gasket or even use gasket seal? Thanks.

My problem was that one of the linings let loose from the shoe and wedged in under the other one.... locked down the bike completely! Not knowing what the problem was, it was quite difficult to get the drum off without breaking the back plate, etc. Thankfully, I had a set of crows feet to wedge from the front holes and tap simultaneously.. Thanks again for your excellent videos!

If you got bad rear axle bearings is that enough to make the rear differential pop when you’re turning left or right? I’m hoping that’s all that’s wrong because I know my rear bearings are shot but I get in loud crunch pop when I turn left or right at the rear diff. Runs good in a straight line.

1st, thanks for posting these videos, I've referred to them a few times. I have a 93 honda 300 4x4 in good shape but its never shifted right, the sets of clutches were cooked so i started there knowing it needed them, the Centrifugal ckutch linings were crumbling apart and the change clutches were below serv. Limit and rusted steels. (Sat for a long time) my problem is a ton of free play, no resistance at all in the shift lever (clutch is properly adjusted, I've done several adjustments on these old hondas and the shifter was like this before i did the repairs? Is there a spring on the shift shaft under the left cover or something to look into?
@draywanda11 жыл бұрын
It may have come from the rear end, if the right ring gear seal is bad it will let 90wt into the axle housing, so if the bearing in the brake panel was bad it would also make it's way into the brakes.

Hey Mr. D-Ray....!!! I have a quad problem question to ask you about if you have time to answer it. I have a 2013 Honda Rubicon Trail edition. Lately when I put the bike in reverse when I have not used it for a while and it's cold. It seems like the engine bogs down and almost stalls out & surges when I hit the gas really hard. This only happens when the bike is in reverse tho and it's getting worst as time goes by...!!! Please & ty in advance sir...!!!

Donald, I hope you are making a nice profit from the advertising, I've watched them all. I have a 98 300 fourtrax and wanted the service the rear end, I started out having issues removing the brake drum, so I took your advice and tried pushing the axle through but had no luck. It didn't have the oring on either side installed. Cleaned out the area with some cleaner and air, when I hit the axle with the composition hammer it will move about a quarter inch in both directions. Any suggestions on what I could do? Thanks again for the great videos.

Question: I'm in the middle of the same project on my 98 TRX300 4x4. At 6:11 on this video you pop that black cover off the brakes. When I did that on mine, grease poured out (maybe a mix of grease and water). The balls from the bearing were gone...the springs on the shoes were gone (rusted into oblivion). Where did all that grease come from? It seems like too much to be from the bearing. It's all cleaned up and looking nice now with new shoes, seals and bearing.

I did the disc brake on my 91 Honda 300FW and you need to remember, you have to put 12" wheels on it. Most if not all 300's come with 11" wheels. the 12's are easy to find on Craigslist.
