They had great chemistry and both were very nice gentlemen. White went on to become president of the National League, and Rizzuto made the HOF as a player and broadcaster. And if that wasn't enough, there's always Paradise by the Dashboard Lights.

As a kid in the 70’s when I had to go to bed I never cared. Just put the radio on and listen to these great men call the games. It was such a joy. Pure peace and happiness listening. A time in life I wished my sons had the chance to experience.

Phil and Bill were the absolute best. I knew it as a kid growing up watching the games on WPIX. They had unbelievable chemistry. They made baseball fun and played off each other well. Plus, each had a keen sense of humor. They were the pinnacle of Yankees baseball for that era.

No game and still over 20,000 views. Priceless. Just shows the respect for these two greats. Two knowledgeably and experienced broadcasters in a natural conversation. Just some of the great ballplayers heard in this rain delay Joe Dimaggos, Ted Williams, Reggie Jackson, Mickey Mantle, Harmon Killebrew, Babe Ruth, Frank Viola, Dave Winfield, Yogi Berra, Don Mattingly, Tommy John, Sweet Lou, Jim Kaat, Davey Johnson, Bobby Murcer, Bill Kunkel, Willie Randolph, even themselves all in about 5 minutes. I watch the 2 part videos at least once a week. It's very relaxing, educational and takes me back. Thanks for the upload. The only bad thing about these videos is they are too short.

This was a CLASSIC example of how it didn't take excessive videos, screen graphics & effects, or over-the-top, over-opinionated, & ego-driven maniacs to carry a broadcast. The Yankees on WPIX were a New York institution, and Phil Rizzuto, Bill White, & Frank Messer were true baseball men who could keep an audience entertained simply by their conversations and their rapport. I guess the worst mistake we made as fans was believing they would be there forever.

JUST FOUND THIS AGAIN . FOR ANYONE THAT GREW UP IN THE 80s , this is PURE GOLD. THIS TAKES YOU BACK TO A BETTER TIME AND AN AMAZING CULTURE OF YANKEE BASEBALL. PURE BASEBALL. THE WPIX TELECASTS WERE A BIG PART OF ANY DIE HARD YANKEE FAN. AND PHIL AND BILL? THEY WERE LIKE 2 BUDDIES THAT YOU REALLY LOVED LISTENING TO. EDDIE LAYTON ON THE ORGAN. BOB SHEPPARD ON THE PUBLIC ADDRESS, AND THE PERFECT STADIUM. THE CATHEDRAL . A BUILDING LIKE NO OTHER. WHAT A CULTURE. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE. THESE TELECASTS ALSO REMIND YOU OF WHAT IT WAS LIKE SITTING IN YOUR SEAT ( FOR THOSE THAT WENT TO MANY GAMES AS I DID) AND LISTENING TO THE ORGAN , ANNOUNCEMENTS AND THE CROWD. JUST A SPECIAL PURE FEELING. A BYGONE ERA SORELY MISSED !! MY REMEDY? RELIVE IT BOTH AT HOME AND AT WORK - HERE IS MY EMULATION OF WHAT I CONSIDER THE GREATEST EXPERIENCE ON EARTH ...THE OLD YANKEE STADIUM= kzbin.info/www/bejne/emi6ZoFvid6GqbM

I remember as a boy in the 1970's driving with my grandparents those summer nights in Upstate New York between North Syracuse and Fourth Lake...Yankee game on the radio...the signal drifting in and out...sometimes loud & clear...with Phil Rizzuto, Bill White, and Frank Messer trading-off doing play-by-play & color. Almost musical. Very special times.

Thanks for this. I will be 60 this year. Everyone always laughs about Phil's broadcasting. Yes he did jokes, birthdays (mine once) etc., but he spoke the truth about what he saw. And he wasn't just a Yankee fan - he would and did criticize Yankees. Bill White was excellent also. Straight reporter. Frank Messer was a little more timid but those three guys.... God, they are so much better and HONEST than today's broadcasters! Michael Kay is a corporate man, I did love Jim Katt. THANK YOU!

Just two guys talking baseball. I love how seamlessly they go from topic to topic, I’m sure they could go on like that for hours and it would still be interesting. I especially liked the discussion of the roster limits. Nowadays they pack the bullpens with as many relievers as possible with only three position players on the bench with one always being the backup catcher.

I grew up on White, Rizzuto and Messer. I was 7 in 1977 and still recall watching the Boston/Yankees playoff game from NJ. I am amazed at the humility of both of these guys not wanting to talk about their own careers and focus on the current crop. You don't get that much in today's retired players turned analysts.

Yes, I consider Messer to be the best "pure" announcer that the Yankees ever had. Him and Mel Allen. He talked perfectly, great voice. I have collected some CDs of Yankees 1980s radio broadcasts, and he was THE guy on those; doing the post-game, etc). Plus, who can forget all those old-timers' day introductions. I do think that Rizzuto gets less credit than he should for being a great announcer; often people only talk about the funny things he'd do.
