I just used this video to help re-assemble my 1984 Honda 200S pull starter. A HUGE thank you for putting together this video. You have no idea how helpful your knowledge and explanations were to me tonight. Thank you Mr. D-Ray !

You are the man! Replaced the pull string last night and works like a champ! What took you 30min, took me about 4 hours. That spring is a bitch, took 5 tries. I didnt think i needed eye protection but i quickly learned that spring would whack your face off. I was up until 1am last night but without this video not sure what could have happened. Thanks for the help!

Thank you for this great video! I have inherited a Frankenstein's Monster "big red" atc200e, and after replacing the carburetor realized just how much of a hodge-podge it is. These videos are immensely useful as I go through step by step and learn about my machine, get it running and make it a useful farm tool! I have already learned that I don't have a decompression cable coming off the pull starter; my plan is to rebuild the new cheap chinese carburetor alongside the one that was there and try to figure out what the difference is. I'll have to rebuild the broken pull started and/or get a battery so the electric starter can be used. I'll be going through and watching all your videos on the subject, again, probably a couple more times. Thanks again!

Awesome videos! I just recently purchased a 1984 atc200s. Its in great condition but the auto decompressor cable was recently disconnected to fix the pull start rope, I had not idea what the cable was for. Your videos have answered many questions for me. Keep up the great work!

When i got my 200sa few years back, the only thing missing was the decompression cable. Rope finally gave out because of that, and I dove into the one part on Honda ATCs that I absolutely hate fixing. Bought all missing parts for the decompression system , the ring, spring, cable, even the cable mount, from a dude on a facebook page. Watched every video i could find about putting it together and yours has been the easiest to follow. And today, 8onths later, on my 9,756th attempt and give ups, I finally got the mofo to work smoothly! Seemed like no matter what i did, it would function, but it would get harder to pull when it grabbed the slider, and id always get a loud hard CLICK everytime it released. Drove me absolutely insane. Cause i know if it's doing that, it's just messing it up slowly and fixing it again would be inevitable, and I also hate doing something over and over again not even knowing why. Still have no idea what i did differently today, but thank you sir for thoroughly explaining how it works and showing how each piece goes in. Especially the part about preloading the spring cause i was trying to do it the way I would do it on a Honda GX or similar and my handle would never return all the way either. Wish I could put a picture of my '84 200s up here. Mine is all black, and i did the forks and tank in like a gun metal (duplicolor engine enamel) then put the normal decals back on. Time to evict some spiders and go for a ride! I owe you beer!

This series was the best I've seen. Thank you for putting it together. I've had an 84 200S for years and been starting it without the decompression assembly ever since I bought it. Well, 3 shoulder surgeries later from other injuries and I'm scared every time I pull that starter rope. Your video has put me on a quest to find the assembly and make starting the Honda much easier. thank you.

Im still waiting for a few fingers to grow back because of the same thing on my '84 200s. My 350x never had the decompression cable. Wasn't even hard to start, but you know, its a kick starter . So when i got this 200s, i figured "surly i can pull this without that cable." What a painful learning experience that was.

Thanks so much, best instruction video yet. I’ve got the same ATC without the parts for the decompression, so I try and hold a small compression release lever and cable. It works ok but could be better. So as you know the parts fix the recoil starter are rare and expensive and not easy to find. Due to my age and health it gotten too hard the pull on the rope without it. Any tips on going around the orig parts would be nice, lots of 200s without the parts, thanks.

Thanks for the videos d - ray. I’m having problems with my 1983 185s decompression. The amount the cable pulls back is not enough for my engine to decompress. DRay, is there any adjustment on the cable? it seems mine doens't have any compression when the cable is hooked up. When i disconect the cable the engine will fire up right away.
