Wonderful video, saved me on my 200s. Dude who had it before me cut the decompression release stuff off so I broke my string. Didn’t realize how important it was until I broke it. Now I just manually decompress after 3 pulls of not starting

I used to do the funnel trick back before I had a cable luber, these things are great.

Ray, Thank you so very much for this video. I found my problem after hours of trying. I wasn't winding up the coil before closing it up. I also found I was missing the decompression spring, I will have to see if I can find a replacement and a boot.

Thanks for the video I just could not figure out how to tension the spring to load the rope. Was super easy after watching this video. My daughter is now rallying around her 1983 200e big red again, her favorite thing to do during this quarantine.

Very helpful video, The only issue I had was I broke the old coil spring and had to order an new one. I had trouble trying to get the pulley to hook on the spring. The inner hook was not near the center and I had to play with for awhile before I got the pulley to hook.
@jasonwakeman38214 жыл бұрын
I've used a piece of flat steel with 3 Holes in it about 3 inches apart then put wood screws I all holes, then tighten in down so it's about 3/8 of an inch away from 2x4 then used the center screw to hook the middle of the spring. Then wind up and secure with bailing wire.

I've actually had a few small engine guys tell me to not lube the rope As it collects dirt once it is and basically becomes a hardened mud string. If it's an old cotton rope I'd say go for it but if it's synthetic like nylon, poly I'm sure any petroleum based product will negatively effect it And cause dirt build up in the rope.

D-Ray, On the 82' Honda ATC Recoil, I noticed you have had the Decompression Spring, I have not been able to find one anywhere and my bike didn't have the large spring in it. Do you know where I could find one?

Why is it when I put the assembly together greased an all it works but as soon as I put it on the machine and test it out the string will not retract? Any ideas to what’s causing the hold up. I tried different tensions and went over the pound pull you suggested.

Hmm about 5 rotations for the rope roughly. Like that cable block tool :-), if the cable is on the bike ive used the old method of eather make a tight fitting funnel of plasterceine or wrap a plastic bag round the top of the cable and fill with oil, not quick or pretty but still works :-) For cruddy cables ive used wd40 to chase the crap out first, then real old for long term lube. Now be honest lol, did you loose the spring at least once and swore ha ha :-)

I have a 1980 model 185atc Honda and I'm having a few issues problems it acts like its starving for fuel but when I first fired up it runs just fine when it's time for a little while and then it spits and sputters like it's not getting enough fuel petcock is fun and as far as I know the car wreck or something but when I turn the petcock on the bottom of the carburetor starts leaking gas out of it is that normal or not
@ghostwatts78028 жыл бұрын
+James Parrott youre carb needs to be cleaned probobly.If that dosnt help get a rebuild kit for the petcock.
