PT 3 Repairing a torn in half quadruple "Blue Chip" Key comic book! Adventure Comics 247 from 1958!

Join me as we repair this Blue Chip Key comic book from DC. Printed in 1958, it features FOUR 1st appearances! The 1st appearance of the Legion of Super-Heroes, Cosmic Boy, Lightning Boy and Saturn Girl! This book was expertly graded at a 1.0 due to a cover wrap being detached and completely torn in half.
In Part 3 we address the inner wraps, proper staple removal and repairing the spine splits using Japanese paper and Methyl cellulose.

How did you dampen the comic before the tear seals? What was your process? Thx

Hi Don. The book was immersed in 25% calcium hydroxide solution.

To reinforce the inner wrap spine area tears, are u using 5 GSM Japan paper or heavier weight?

Beautiful patina on those staples sir. The light table worked great-much better than my old too-small 35mm slide viewer. It’s great that we build on each other’s work and keep refining our processes. Can you point us to your source for the larger light table?

Not trying to hide the process. This will be submitted for a conserved label not a universal label and it will be submitted with conservation notes. All methods are accepted by CGC for conservation.

Using a scalpel to pull those staples back seems pretty scary. I was nervous you were going to gouge the paper or slice your finger.
