Great to see the leaf casting process. Would love to try that, but not sure I have the time to dedicate. Also, a great book - love those old Quality Comics.

Leaf casting seems to be a hot topic right now and I don’t have the capital to drop $5-$10K on a machine that I would use very infrequently. So I set about inventing one that was cost-effective. So for about $300, I was successful but now I have the training wheels on to learn how to actually do the process and it is an art form. Kenny Sanderson is the master. I wish I could do that type of work, but he actually has the proper machine for it.

Loved the peek inside the shop. Enjoyed watching the heated dry press in action.

Hey Travis! I actually shot one of my video series at the heat press but I can’t remember which one it is lol but now that I’ve gotten into leaf casting I think it’s time to make a new video to show how I rapidly dry my wet wraps in the press. I’ll see if I can put something together. I don’t think I’ll release it on KZbin, but I’ll release it to the group on Facebook.

What I really need to know is how to remove the stains left by cigarette smoke. My entire collection is brown. Shame on me.
@FlyingLComics22 күн бұрын
Ouch! The only thing I know to remove cigarettes stains would be hydrogen peroxide which acts as a catalyzing agent and then place it under a 450nm blue LED. That should whiten everything up.
@briannewell606420 күн бұрын
@@FlyingLComics 1st time i've gotten any idea on how to clean these up. I will give it a try. Thank you so much.
@FlyingLComics20 күн бұрын
If you don’t have the blue LED already look on Amazon and they have one listed under grow light, but it must be pure blue no ultraviolet so you’re looking for something in the 440 to the 460 nm range. Hydrogen peroxide by itself Won’t really do much you’re going to need that blue light

Thank you Peter! For me, I need to move quickly so I’m able to do an entire wrap, start to finish, in about five minutes. Not including drying time which is usually about 30 minutes.

Beautiful patina on those staples sir. The light table worked great-much better than my old too-small 35mm slide viewer. It’s great that we build on each other’s work and keep refining our processes. Can you point us to your source for the larger light table?

Not trying to hide the process. This will be submitted for a conserved label not a universal label and it will be submitted with conservation notes. All methods are accepted by CGC for conservation.

Saving the paper inner sleeve is a waste since almost all lp collectors would throw it away and replace with a new antistatic sleeve. But appreciate your expertise.

Great video Larry. Do you usually humidity treat the wraps prior to wash? Thoughts on that step sir. This book turned out great. Its nice to see a win on a silver age book.
@FlyingLComicsАй бұрын
Thank you! No I start with a wash. You want to get the acids and tannins out first. The humidity comes in different places during the process. After the wraps come out of the blue light they get humidified andpressed flat.
