Hey Sir. My daddy, who is 91 years old, has this back door problem right now. I’m his only child living, so he is stuck with his old daughter attempting to do this, lol. If you pray, pray I can fix it for him and pray it won’t tear my nerves up because I KNOW that dear old man is going to watch and question every move I make, lol. Can I call you if I get stuck? I have no mechanical ability. Thank you for going through the trouble of making videos just to help others. Bless you.

Thank you big dawg! I just picked up a PT about 5 hours ago from a dealership and the only issue this car has is the trunk latch and since I am "Somewhat" handy I know I'll be able to replace it with the tools I have also my buddy has that little adhesive remover you used as well.... He's into cars like you.... Good looks brother stay blessed and safe out here.

Just another thing you might consider before going through all the vid's ideas. If you have replaced your battery or disconnected it for one reason or another, you might have reset your "personal settings" located on the left side of dash where the temp, mileage settings are located. Push the button to get to your Personal Settings. When clicking through the options you'll come to "Door Locks." Make sure your settings set to unlock door with key/buttons (Drivers door or all of them, etc.) After viewing many vids on this problem, I went to my personal settings because my door locks stopped locking automatically after 5 minutes. All of my personal settings had reset after replacing my battery. Including the door lock business. I re-set it for my preferences, now everything works normal again!! Hatch back lock, door locks, compass... all of it. Just a suggestion to check this setting first. Saves mucho time and aggravation (if that's your problem)

So I'm detailing a vehicle just like this one, I disconnected the battery and the switch will not open..there isn't a "door lock" setting on the dash all I get is avg mpg, Mi till empty and elapsed time, can it still possibly be a setting issue? Customer said it was working before, they had to press the unlock multiple times to get unlocked though...but now the button is flush...i disconnected the 2 pin connector and connected it back and it made a noise but the switch still stays flush...

Thanks for this. I accidentally broke the tab holding on the main panel. I got the switch off but I did inadvertently break the screws off on the old one. Even after taking off the screws and breaking both the push pin connectors it was still hard to pry off the hatch. So much adhesive holding it on.

Took the cover off went and got a big heavy duty push button switch at the parts store. Drilled a hole and mounted it up inside the handle. Cut the wires and hooked them up and coated the connections and body of the push button switch with liquid electric tape. About 15 minutes and 15 dollars and will outlast the car.

Thanks… that was amazing. Who would have guessed that part could be replaced that easily or that you could even buy one yourself? 🤷♀️ So here’s my problem. Someone put my battery in backwards 🙄… yes, I was very upset. So I just had to replaced my Alternator probably because of it. I’m too embarrassed to say how much I paid for that!! No one really wanted to replace it on my 07 PT.. I guess it’s not too easy. I also lost my radio and my automatic door locks, but my friend showed me how to change those 2 fuses, which I found very interesting and kinda fun too.. so radio & locks are fine. Well, now my hatch keeps popping open. It doesn’t actually fly up, but the lock is ajar at times. Do you think there’s a fuse for the hatch too or do you think I need a whole new one like yours?

@OnlineMechanicTips2 жыл бұрын
No my friend, not all Chryslers have built in sensor check. And btw there is no rear hatch faults detected without a scan tool. You will not see the cluster codes doing the key dance.

@@joshuadauzat5559 Not that simple bud. Mechanics need to know what the fault code is inside the module in order to properly diagnose it. Sure, you can take a guess at it but that can get expensive.

Another video shows taking the push pad apart and cleaning the contacts which allowed the switch to work again when you press and lift the hatch.

@0:44 Looks like you assumed it was the actuator switch without first testing the touchpad button on the emblem -- which is very commonly the problem and alot cheaper to fix. @3:44 you already bought the NEW actuator, and is where you are testing whether IT (the part) works... ???

Thank you for this video! I'm considering taking this on myself on a 2010 "Classic." Questions: 1) I assume there will only be a fault code if the failure mode of the switch is short circuit. Is this a fault code that would be displayed using the key-on-off-etc method? 2) You used a new switch assembly in place of the old one as a test. Is the switch a simple momentary-contact normally-off switch, such that one could test the latch by merely jumpering the other connector - or is it something more complicated?
@APEXQuickTips3 жыл бұрын
I have this same problem but both on the key-on-off mode and with BlueDriver's OBD scan I don't actually get any code so I am clueless too
@hubbsllc3 жыл бұрын
@@APEXQuickTips In the absence of any code, much can be learned by just accessing the connectors in the hatch. I figure that the switch will fail ether short or open but only failing short would throw a code (failing open is indistinguishable from "not pressed"). You can test the switch for continuity once disconnected and then jumpering the connector going back to the rest of the car momentarily should open the latch if everything else is OK. If the switch is OK and if the jumper test works, problem is likely the connector. If jumper test doesn't work, then the problem is somewhere else (I guess there's a relay?).
