Happy to see Randy is still alive, and very much looking great & lively as ever. He seems to be a natural. Love watching him perform in their videos coz not only did he sing and dance well but he always put a big smile whenever he performs. Long live Randy, I hope you are still here with us its already January 25,2022 today. Would be so great to have his book "Macho Man."

I was into the Village People when I was three. I'm 45. Randy was my favourite and still is. I always dressed up as a cowboy (not a cowgirl as most people mistakenly thought I would want to dress up as) when I did dress ups - I wanted to be him. They were huge in Australia.

I had no idea any of the VP were actually involved in the group's management but it sounds like he was. He sought a career on Broadway and stumbled into a gold mine called the Village People; good for him! The Indian (Felipe) will be in the group until his feathers fall off, lol ! YMCA was the record that propelled them into the big time, but if you ever want to hear an album that really nails the gay spirit of the '70s it would have to be their debut album "Village People" from 1977. It comes across as a concept album of the prototypical young gay man fleeing rejection and parental disapproval, going to the big cities, and then discovering there are hundreds of others like himself. "San Francisco, You Got Me" encapsulates this theme as did "Hollywood (Everybody is a Star"). They later expanded upon this theme with more substantial songs like "Go West". It was all about finding your identity and celebrating yourself despite the negativity and hate. The music was well-executed disco formula for the most part, light and superficial, but the underlying themes were closer to the heart and a near documentary-like commentary on an oppressed minority seeking liberation. Sadly, we all know what came next and the party was over. But WHAT A PARTY it was! Criticize the "decadence" and sexual indulgence all you wish but if you had been there like me and survived you would look fondly back at the magic and the "menergy" of that time. As for our current scene in 2020? Utterly depressing. Criticize us all you wish but we were "never being boring".
