PT5 $500 Fiero GT. replaced shift select cable, modified. fix rear view mirror, wipers

Finally changed the shift select cable, would not go in revers so had to modify with another hole drilled, installed rear view mirror, new wiper blade, cleaned and painted air filter can, fixed cruise control and supported my local fire department getting ham dinner!

The base model Pontiac fiero fiero was a gutless wonder i had a 1988 with the v6 that had been hopped up plus the aftermarket ground effect kit Was a sweet ride for a 19 year old.

El Fiero es fuego. Definitely do the cold air intake to the vent in front of the tire. That rusty restrictive OEM stock intake gives me the heebie jeebies!

I put a cold air kit on mine. I just made one from a cheap kit from Amazon. I love it. Puts the filter down right in front of the scoop. No power gains but it’s really loud and sounds good haha. Great video!

I say stuff the filter down by your side intake vent. If it gives easier access by removing all of those rusty steel mounting pieces and gives a straight clean shot with some new tubing go for it. But I will suggest backing the inside of the vent facia with some very fine hardware cloth to keep rodents out of there. The Fiero is coming along quite nicely. :)

@@MotoCheez No problem. Any open passage you don't want to block the flow of but keep critters out hardware cloth is your stubborn friend. Rats and mice can't chew through it since it's steel wire and if the holes are small enough they can't squeeze by. :)

HI cheese just a FYI if the windshield mirror table comes of or doesn't want to stay on. 99 percent of the time its because the window need to be cleaned before applying it. If the wipers are acting up some what random it the motor control board if it's the same style as a Chevy truck it's built in the wiper motor so the windshield motor assembly need to be replaced. They tend to get water damage

In 1982 I was a 17 year old Junior in High School and received a random tele marketing call at my parents house asking if I wanted to review a new design concept car from Pontiac and they would pay Me $75 just for participating! Of course I accepted and saw it before it was even a production car! Didn't get to drive it but it was a full production 4 cylinder car!

Since you have 2. one working and one not (I think). Id remove the engine, refresh it, and since the engine day is empty. Id clean it and delete any of the either useless or broken stuff. Then repair any of the light surface rust. Then Plop the engine and trans back in, hook it up and itll be good. Plus, go through the wiring.

Yes, the other Fiero is an SE in that one is getting the 3.8 supercharged engine. Plan on dropping the cradle on that pretty soon but first we are going to open up that 3.8 engine put new gaskets and check the bearings etc. Definitely going to clean up the engine bay and that but that one is completely mint and rust-free not even surface rust. Low miles and garage kept and it shows

That was old emissions thing that was removed during a recall you can remove that pipe on the firewall

All my cars where hooked from the filter to the side scoop from the factory.

@@MotoCheez There is a tube under the fender that goes to the side scoop then into the air filter. All my V6's also had the Holly side scoop with the exception of one of them, but still had the tube for cold air.

@@MotoCheez I just went out and looked at my v6 and it to has the stock cold air tube from the scoop to the air filter. LOL I had to pull part of the inner fender to see it. The stock is hard black plastic and the aftermarket it a flexible tube. All my cars had the stock set up.

Guess resting hand on the shifter ain't a problem in this car, being w/o direct linkage?

Probably less likely, but IMO, resting hand on shifter is minimal wear on shift forks it not worth worrying about. What do you think? It's lubricated

Once your car is rolling down the road the hot air leaves the engine bay and its as cold as the outside temp is. So you only get warm air for a moment its probably never actually hot air lol. Put a simple thermometer next to the cone filter and check the peak temp I bet its lower than you think. In the summer would be the hottest possible air. But think about your motorcycle, the air filter is right above a 400 degree exhaust and nobody cares about that at all. Like how a hawk would melt the air intake tube lmao! Or the carb that gets warm as all hell from the exhaust, I checked it with a laser thermometer the gas gets hot in the bowl like crazy (140 degrees or so) thats why I customized my TBR7 exhaust when I deleted the cat so the carb bowl could be as far away from the carb as possible.

It all depends on a location of the air filter, no matter what it's not going to be as cold as air blowing in from the outside because normal cars with the radiator up front in the grill it pushes the hot air into the engine compartment so most of time it's sucking in hot air

The radiator has a shroud that focuses the air into the center where the fans are. Which is not where the air filter goes. Which is normally on the side of the engine. But like I said I hear ya I just dont think its a "hot air intake" as you said. @@MotoCheez

I will do a temp test next week when its supposed to be 60 degrees and let you know the max temp seen under my hood. I have a simple thermometer that shows max high and low temp, cuz science @@MotoCheez

@MotoMeat I'm just saying they call it a cold air kit but it's not getting cold air to it if it's pulling it from the engine compartment. Unless you baffle it off from the engine compartment and have a tube forcing cold air in from the front or side of the car

@heynow3788 YES! I have a Fiero SE that we are doing that too, picked up the engine about a month and a half ago It's in the garage and I am taking it apart resealing it and checking bearings. That Fiero has its own playlist too
