Thanks for mentioning the winding resistance. I’ve only had nh35 which are super easy and the pt5000 felt like I was gonna need pipe wrench. It’s made nervous so I never wore the watch. Now I know it’s supposed to feel like that. Cheers

I have to report the same resistance at my ETAs and Sellitas. But keep in mind that the size of the crown is also an important parameter. The smaller the crown , the stiffer the winding.
@TypeSly
@TypeSly Жыл бұрын
My experience is almost identical to yours. Stiff winding (although it does loosen up a bit over time). Very steady movement and it doesn't seem to differ too much over time. I've checked it after getting a few hard knocks to the watch, and performance doesn't change at all, so I'd say it's quite a robust movement. I've been very happy with the performance of this movement and I would take this over the NH35/36 any day of the week, even if it means I have to pay more for it.

I think these movements are factory regulated. I have a watch from a budget watch brand & it’s max 4 seconds fast. I’m a great fan of this movement & hope that they’ll continue with their high standards. I hope to see in the future, no date versions of this movements & rotorless mechanical versions of this movement. I hope that they aim at consistency & value, to build their foundation.

I've got about 3 or 4 swiss movements but mostly nh35 in copies & homages with 4 or 5 microbrands. Over the weekend I ordered a Proxima MM300 homage, initially with the nh35 but was informed they no longer do that ( despite the ad) so will be trying my first PT5000. I got an allegedly original PT5000 movement since I had been experiencing crown action problems in my Willard, this one IS stamped HK PT5000, unlike the OEM Willard movement. I swapped it altogether and oh boy, I think that was the cure for the problems I had been experiencing. Now the crown's steps are crisp, and I'm not having any problems hacking, winding or starting the watch. It's the first time I've done this, I took the plunge and although it took me like 3 hours I didn't screw anything up and everything came out OK. I have all the necessary tools (some Swiss [bergeon screwdrivers] and everything else Chinese). People say the design is the problem and doesn't matter if the Willards get a somewhat generic PT, but this "original stamped" PT is working as it should. I have a NTTD phyllida that also has a PT and behaves perfectly well, as this one does; I haven't seen if its PT is stamped or not, I haven't opened it since it works well and is very accurate. Now, I will only monitor the new movement's behaviour and see what's what.

I have 3 watches with this movement, 2 Cronos and 1 San Martin, my experience with them it has been very satisfying,one thing I have noticed is that if I don't wear it for a day they stop working but if I wound 10 to 15 times then there is no problem, it looks like wearing alone is not enough to charge the power reserve. They seem to be very well made and robust made with good materials it doesn't feel robust like for example a nh35 but maybe its just a feeling because I don't have had enough experience with this movement, pt5000 is relatively new and his reliability has to be proven. The movement keep very good time-1,+2,+3 seconds and the smooth second hand sweep its beautiful to watch.

Alex could you elaborate on what you say I just recently bought a San Martin with the movement and having worn it for three days it stopped ticking while I was wearing it while sleeping, you think it's just a quirk of the movement that the automatic works don't give enough power and that I have to give it a few winds to supplement the auto? I'm super disappointed in the watch as it it has already caused me to be late and have no confidence in it. I think I may just return it and ask for a refund.

@@jamlove2020 hi, I believe it's due to little movement of your wrist, I have 5 watches with pt5000 movement and they all work fine for years, something I have notice is that they need more wrist movement than let say a nh35, also I wound the watch almost every day 10 to 15 times, it gives the extra energy needed to work perfectly . If you don't feel comfortable with the watch you can send it back but personally I don't see any reason to do that, it's your choice, I hope I could help if you need more clarification just let me know. @@tomcruz3774 hello! My cousin loved it so much when he saw it that he begged me to buy mine and I agreed. It is quite beautiful. I did have to replace the crown stem with a longer one to get proper engagement with the movement - I had a spare on hand. I hope yours does not have that issue, but if it does you can quickly pick up a stem for cheap on Ebay and cut to a slightly longer length. The problem is that there is a spring mechanism in the crown and on mine, the crown would hit the threads before the stem pushed in to get out of hand set mode. I had another PD (PD1722) do the same thing with same easy fix. Best of luck - you will probably not have the issue…

What I'd like to see about this movement is two-fold. First, is it still working after 6 to 12 months (3 of my chinese watches, not with PT5000s but with earlier movements) are not. Second, if you disassembled the movement, what would you find? Is it properly assembled? Are the parts rough? Is it properly lubricated? Is there debris in the movement? The NH35 isn't a great movement, but it's generally well assembled (thus it is as good as it should be usually). The PT5000 might be a great design and a great movement, but it might be let down by how it's assembled. Generally you rely on reputation to be assured of reasonable quality control, but as yet, I don't think any Chinese export brand has an actual good reputation for QC and customer service.

Yes, You should buy one. I have purchased several watches with them. I have only worn one, the 1st one I purchase and been wearing it for 6 months now - runs great and no issues. It is not as nice as the original 2824 or SW200 which are both Swiss but pretty darn close and you can not beat the price point. The Swiss Movements cost several times what the PT5000 is selling for. I know the NH35 has a huge following but, IMHO the PT5000 beats the NH35 and NH35 is overrated. I have had 2 NH35 movements fail in a year of purchase. I quit buying them. Maybe back a decade a or two or three they were the worth buying, but not today. I know that is going to upset a lot people, but NH35 does nothing for me.

And here I am, complaining that my Bulova Precisionist gains about five seconds a month when they used to be advertised at around ten seconds a year. I’m fascinated by mechanical movements, and impressed that a Chinese company can produce adequate ones so cheaply that they’re probably best serviced by complete replacement, but… does anyone actually care what time it is? Even 5 seconds gain a day would drive me to distraction… or maybe it wouldn’t as I haven’t regularly worn a mechanical watch in 20 years and have forgotten how I felt about such things in real life.

I've been leery of them and always opted for the Seiko NH35. At the end of the day I think the movement IS the watch and I see a homage with the NH35 as a Seiko in a different package. Check out the link above, Jeffrey. I am a bit of the same mindset re these movements. If you can pick up a 'kosher' one then you should be O.K. Unfortunately the PT5000 is a very copied movement in China, you almost never know what movement you will actually get, particularly at the lower end of the market (say less than 250USD). how many times do we wind the pt5000 for the full power reserve?

About 30 times. But it varies. You can’t over wind them.

I have a PT5000 in my Cronos homage to the IWC Le Petit Prince. So far, I'm running about +3.5 seconds/day on average. I've been very pleased with the movement's performance. My one gripe is that several of the dates on my date wheel are not printed correctly. It's acceptable, but several of the numbers appear to have differing consistencies in their printing thickness -- it's as if an extra "|" of ink has been added to several of the numbers. It wouldn't stop me from buying another watch with the movement, especially if the price were good.
@WATCHingJames

Good to hear it running well. Interesting that there is an issue with the date wheel printing. I have not heard of that before.

I have one of these movements in a Geckota dive watch - seems to keep very good time at c +2 or +3 seconds a day. The manual winding action feels fine on mine - a little resistance, but good and smooth. Very pleased with it and much prefer to a NH35. For watches at this sort of price, i'm not worried about spares availability - I expect it to run for 10 at least years.

I’ve gotten a Matic Diver200, am homage to the Omega Seamaster. Haven’t had it for too long, but typically it seems to run only a second or two fast after a day. I love the smooth second hand on it, and the minute hand tracks very precisely! I have another watch with an NH35 and after a day the minute hand will be off on it, not to mention the second hand will be 5-10 seconds fast usually. So this far, the PT5000 seems to keep time better. And yes, my PT5000 is also a lot firmer when winding than the NH35 is

I have had 3 replacements of my pt5000 in my cronos watch in the past year. My watch tech thinks it’s a cheap sub standard movement. I think that the hand stack may be causing problems. It’s away for another look. The warranty was terrible.I wanted a replacement but cronos on Alli express refused. I have 100 plus watches ranging from $100 to $1000 . Many are mechanical…. No issues other any this one. Do you have any suggestions?
@WATCHingJames
@WATCHingJames Жыл бұрын
That is very disappointing. I have had some wonderful feedback from people about their movements. If I was stuck with one that was not working I would consider a complete replacement movement. You can put a claim through AliExpress if it is a recent purchase as well.

Its a 1 for 1 copy of the ETA 2824 so it will have the same stiff winding. It will also have the same gear that strips with too much winding being soft brass.

The hand wind on all the PT5000 are stiff. It is a bad design they copied over from the ETA and ultimately should have the same issue as the ETA hand wind. There is a gear that goes from a fine tooth gear from the autowind and hand wind gear does every other tooth. Hand wind can put too much force into that fine gear.
