I remember being told on this channel that the SIR Greninja ex was overpriced and had to come down at some point (back when it was below $200), lol. Turns out the opinion that a card is "too expensive" doesn't actually matter vs the current English market.
@GoodCleanTCG
@GoodCleanTCG 19 күн бұрын
Is the explanation not that some cards are simply more desirable than others? It’s no different with SIR’s..the more desirable Pokemon/artworks generate the highest demand for collectors and investors which in turn drives the price up. If the Japanese and English markets were true apples to apples comparisons then your logic would apply. But these are two entirely different markets that function differently. Yes, similarities exist but that doesn’t mean similarities MUST exist in all areas. In my estimation, it’s the “investor” culture that’s so prevalent in the current English market that create these anomalies in value.

Man. One day he'll stop comparing the Japanese and American markets lol. Literally completely different in every way. Yes you can gauge a card or a set's popularity from Japanese. But there are plenty of times that stuff over there is high and we don't care about it. A lot of the waifu's for example.

Agreed. The Japanese IRs are SIGNIFICANTLY easier to pull than the English versions. You can’t use Japanese as the baseline for how expensive they “should be.”
@Ansem_SOD13
@Ansem_SOD13 19 күн бұрын
Not really. The same thing happened with Japanese in the past. Suddenly Japanese prices were spiking and everyone and their mother wanted in. Now Japanese went down and People don't care anymore. Then English started spiking all of a sudden and now everyone and their mother wants in. Interest in these cards is largely decided by value and it's sad.
@MrMongerty
@MrMongerty 18 күн бұрын
Yeah, maybe he should do a comparison between the markets, because obviously they don't correlate that much. The actual gameplay seems to matter more in Japan, while I would bet that English sets have 4:1 collectors to players. Artwork and the subject Pokemon clearly matter more than playability in the West.

@ He doesn’t. Why should the values have to match? They are different languages which means different regions, cultures, collectors, etc. By his logic I could argue the complete opposite. “Why are the Japanese cards not more expensive? The Japanese versions are too cheap! Look at the English prices!” His argument makes zero sense.

I had a long post but you can't seem to grasp that popular cards cost more regardless of the pull rate. You also can't seem to grasp that Japanese cards aren't nearly as desirable as English cards in English speaking countries. If I can't read the card it's really not that appealing to me. I don't know why you're beating this dead horse again.

It's very simple: I would rather pay a small premium to have Ceruledge over Mesprit. Other people are willing to pay a big premium to have Ceruledge over Mesprit. Your argument is literally "Why is 1st edition Base Set Charizard more expensive than 1st edition Base Set Magneton? They're the same pull rates!" There is more demand for Charizard than Magneton. There is more demand for Ceruledge than Mesprit.

Comparing Japanese market to English or any other language for that matter is asinine. People love collecting these cards. "if they were that good they would be expensive everywhere".... Really? I get it you play the game and only see "value" in playable cards but your way out of touch when it comes to the majority of the Pokémon hobby being collectors. Its a different country let alone different language and i don't care for any other language cards cheaper or not I only collect English. Its an open market and until people stop buying them assigning the current value then they go up. You can "manipulate" it all you want but if no one buys them they go down either way. Why not show the other side of Japanese "waifu" cards being way more expensive? Because it doesn't matter that's what they like and value them higher... Pack rippers and collectors either sealed, graded or raw are the only reason Pokémon TCG is where it is now.
@lukzymatee9977

Here’s another way to look at it. Surging sparks is 240 usd a box which is about 5-6x higher than the Japanese equivalent. English is more sought on a global scale aswell. Surging sparks has 2x as many it’s as super electric breaker has of ar’s so that then makes it another 2x as hard to pull. So the ceruledge ar being $4 & the English equivalent being $40 makes it undervalued. 4 x 6 = 24 x 2 = 48. if you want to use your flawed logic…
@lukzymatee9977

The fact that you don’t understand simple DEMAND is genuinely so shocking. Your own video disproves the whole "people are pumping it" the very tcg player chart you’re showing literally shows lower sell volume yet the price is still climbing. @Scumbreon
@Scumbreon 18 күн бұрын
Ok, but it’s a combination of these things, right? ceruledge is probably a fan favourite from this generation which a lot of people were waiting on an IR/SIR release of…so it’s a fan favourite and a lot of those fans only collect English. You really do need to include the fact that a bunch of huge pokemon buying nations don’t want Japanese language cards Plus I don’t think spheal and mesprit have the same draw personally 🤷🏼‍♂️ so I don’t see the relevance. Also, the price difference completely throws off the odds, a Japanese box is £30 and you’re guaranteed 3 ARs but a box of surging sparks is like £140 quid atm and you’re expecting/hoping for 2 or 3 IRS. Let’s say with postage from Japan you can get 3 to 4 boxes of Japanese for the same price of 1 English box. So that’s a lot more chance you’re gonna hit a ceruledge for the same price. Plus we live in the modern age so you don’t even have to ship boxes back, you let Japanese people open them for cheap in their own country and then list them on eBay 🤷🏼‍♂️ super easy to access Japanese sellers now. Also, some people have been in this sphere for a while and don’t wanna gamble and rip packs. So probably more people trying to buy singles. The mentality is different, ‘buy the ceruledge for £40 or open 9 packs for the same price and hope for that exact card?” So i think the price difference makes complete sense personally 🤷🏼‍♂️

Ceruledge might be a little inflated true, but your points are kind of weak, since when as of late has the japanese market demand been a good indicator of ENG. If it's more popular, {objectively "cooler"}, harder to pull from more expensive and elusive packs than a spheal or mesprit....the price makes more sense than your making it out to be.

What I never understood is the fact that Magikarp is like quadruple the price of the Rayquaza TG from silver tempest when Rayquaza is just as rare if not rarer, features a way more popular pokemon, features Zinnia which is one of the most popular pokegirls which should give it "waifu tax" and is from a set that is getting harder and harder to find. Imho the rayquaza has better artwork but that is subjective. But tbf, the magikarp art is an aquired taste. The logic does not logic.

I get the rant but there is legit a term for japanese female trainer cards called "waifu tax" why are those explosively more expensive compared to english ones? Same cards? Colture, pullrates and likeableness of a pokemon and competetiveness are all factors at play here... Ceruledge is a very popular pokemon for example... Groudon is my all time fav since i was 7 i regret buying it for 45 and i am still considering buying it as we speak... So its more a qyestion of what do people think is reasonable?
