An informative, clear tutorial for start up solderers to learn some basic through hole soldering knowledge including useful hints and tips along the way.
Various components including resistors , connectors and test points and photographs showing do's and dont's are all shown at various points throughout the video. There is also some useful information regarding potential footprint issues that may be encountered from time to time.
This video would be of great benefit to beginners in the art of soldering as there is some very useful information given out throughout this tutorial.
if you found this video enjoyable and of use to you please take the time to browse some of my other youtube video's with more coming in the near future.
Thankyou for your time and may i ask you kindly to like and subscribe.

I have written many times on various forums and FB pages when there was a question how to solder that there are many quite good tutorial videos here on YT (and a lot of bad ones). But I never recommended a single one as every had some sort of fault. Until I got to this one. Where everything is as it should be. Clear, simple and just the right length.

My man you are a legend! I have been struggling with soldering for a while now. It was annoying me at the point of thinking about giving up on electronics for real. However, watching your videos made me so much better at it! Now I am addicted to soldering hahaha. Thank you so much! I saw that you have the Brazil flag on your channel cover. Cheers from Brazil! Obrigado amigo!

Hi . Thank you for your comment , much appreciated . I just like to show any knowledge I've picked up to others as I've learnt from others myself over the years If we all stick together we can all learn so much more . As this was only the second video I ever posted the qualitys not great and I've learnt as I've gone along to hopefully make better videos . I will probably do another THT one in the future with much clearer pictures , sound etc . Thanks again and good luck with whatever you do 👍

I know my early postings had loader music than my voice ( some people have pointed this out to me ) but hopefully I've sorted this out now and people can see what's going on in the videos more clearly . Hi , thank you for your comment , much appreciated . I'm sure somewhere in the comments for this video other people have asked me this question and I know for some of them I have given them the exact make , places to buy etc . Hopefully you don't mind looking for this information in there . They are quite expensive but If ypu do a lot of through hole soldering they are amazing , and they also come in a choice of different set blade heights . Thanks again , good luck 👍

Hi , thank you for your comment, much appreciated. The make of cutters I use are Lindstrom . I have a few other makes but all my delicate work etc I would use this make . Bit more expensive than others but if treated correctly will last years. I've slotted a few bits in about tools etc in some of my videos but I guess one day I could do a complete video about them . I will be posting another video hopefully within the next few days . Thank you for your support , take care 👍

@@mrsolderfix3996 Hi, I suggest when you have time to make these tutorials: I don't understand how Loctite 382 and SF 7455 glues should be used for locking new conductors, then when and where to use tin with different diameters. Why is it that despite using good quality 60/40 tin and an EWIG 25 W soldering iron, the welding is not bright but opaque? I thank you for everything.

Thank you i tried soldering my first pcb and it came out all jacked up, I will definitely try this method. Question, do you apply flux to the tip directly ever? I was applying it to my tip instead of the pcb directly cause thats how one guy showed me.
@mrsolderfix3996
@mrsolderfix3996 2 жыл бұрын
Hi . Thanks for watching the video. Never apply flux directly to the iron tip . It will burn away before you even get to do the soldering . Just apply it like I show in the video and you will be ok . Hope that helps , thanks again 👍

Hi . Thank you so much for your comment, much appreciated. I've always tried to do the easy stuff perfectly , then I found this had enabled me to go smaller and smaller and do the very fine pitch stuff with not to much difficulty. This is probably the one thing I say to people the most ( if your not fussy to begin with you will struggle to go down to smaller stuff ) . I'm glad you enjoy the videos , I will keep posting more in the near future . Thanks again 👍

? why do you pre cut legs ? - i was taught in 80's to slightly splay legs, solder , then trim close !
@mrsolderfix3996
@mrsolderfix3996 3 жыл бұрын
Hi . Some people still use tools that cut and bend the legs over at the same time , then solder . This is fine , but does make removing the components harder if you have to remove them . It's not great practice to cut after soldering as you risk fracturing the joint . I just find it way easier to cut to length like I show then solder . Most people do it this way now , moved on since the 80's. Thanks 👍
@cscientific6077
@cscientific6077 3 жыл бұрын
Much respect to Mr. SolderFix. His repairs are the most beautiful I've seen in any youtube video. I did find the 'moved on since the 80's' comment a bit off putting (I'm sure it wasn't intended as such). After giving it some thought, I think trimming the leads will lead to much better solder connections because you are eliminating an unnecessary heat sink when soldering. I'm trying to figure out how I can order those weller eram cutters without getting in trouble with the wife. I think I'll just take my chances, father's day is coming up, if only I can get to the mail first. :-) Thank you Mr. SolderFix!
@mrsolderfix3996
@mrsolderfix3996 3 жыл бұрын
Hi . I wasn't serious about the 80's thing , I'm sorry . Seriously if you can get some of them cutters you will love them . They come in various height steps , but I generally use my pair with a 1mm step on them , but other people I know prefer 1.5mm on their height step. Most through hole soldering is probably done between 1mm and 1.5mm.so this is the height id recommend. Hope you get on ok , best of luck and thanks again 👍

That's what I was thinking too. Can't argue with the finished piece though, but I think if I was going to do that way I'd have to tape the component down before cutting and soldering. Actually I think I might try doing a whole board that way just to see what happens, place and tape everything to the board, then cut the leads, then solder. Should be a real time saver

height cutters where can you buy them ???
@mrsolderfix3996
@mrsolderfix3996 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Hope you found the video useful . For the height cutters , try the Tronex 5030 make , available with different height blades . Available from Farnell , RS Components , Rapid Online and any good electrical retailer. They are quite expensive but they will save you loads of time and give you a great consistent cut every time.Thanks again 👍

Hi , thank you for watching the video. This video is really old now and not the best quality . I've posted a fair few more since this one and the quality of my more recent ones ( about the last 15 ) is way better. I posted a similar one to this ( beginners guide ) that talks about tools , irons , basic through hole parts etc , this might be interesting for you . Thanks again for watching, good luck with all your soldering videos . P.S I do use fluxed solder , but external flux is vital in soldering as I've shown in lots of my other KZbin postings. 👍
