I’m new to working on this type of equipment. I’ve got a 1st gen scag v ride. And sometimes the blades take quite a bit of time to engage. Would this be the place to start?

Checking the voltage to the clutch, the ohms on the clutch and the adjustment but mostly it’s the adjustment.

Give me about an hour and I’ll make you a full video of how to check the clutch and the pto wiring system.

Would the air gap being off be a reason for the blades not to engage? I am trying to help my mom figure out why her blades stopped engaging. She said when she turns them on she hears like and air or woosh sound. She just spent a load of money fixing the hydraulics and just can sink any more money into the thing. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! It is a Turf Tiger

Those are a little more complicated with the drive shaft and gear box. But check the belts and check the clutch air gap and your normal voltages. I have videos for all of that.

If the clutch checks good make sure you getting proper voltage from the switch if all that checks good it’s going to be a belt/ driveshaft or gear box issues. There’s one belt on the back and one on the deck for those.
