I went with the Aim Sports handguards. Slate Black Industries rail covers and hand stop. Wilson Combat picatinny rail. I used vibra-tite on the screw. Same as blue loctite. Except you don’t have to reapply until you take it apart over five times. Mine nice and tight. No movement. 😊

I didn’t even think about POF during the review. I remember looking at them back in 2019, but can’t remember the prices. They’d probably work just the same as the original. Glad you got something out of the video

Loctite those screws on the Midwest Handguard, they are the connection between the handguard and the metal c-clamp the bolt goes through that attached to the rifle.

I recently got me a PTR A3S, and i've been thinking of wich handguard to get. My first thought was the Spuhr, since it's made here, and also used by some of our armed forces (Sweden), and it's also cheaper to get me a Spuhr than a Midwest Industries for example. Spuhr is made of 7075 alloy so it's really tough and can take a lot of use and abuse. The AC Unity also seem like a nice option, but i'm not sure where to get those, unless i can order one straight from the factory in Bosnia. I was issued an AK4/G3 clone as a secondary rifle when i did my military service, mostly for blank firing during exercises since there was so much blank ammo in stock the army needed to get rid of 😄 It's a nice rifle, heavy enough to use as an anchor, but simple, reliable and accurate. Very nice info, i'm subscribing 👍😀

@@Psychonaut1974 I’m glad to have a subscriber from Sweden because 1. You all have the AK4D 2. Most (if not all, I’m not sure how your mandatory military service works there) have experience with it 3. From my experience, yalls English is outstanding and usually better than ours 🤣 I think the allure for me with the Spuhr is because it’s very good quality, lightweight, matches my stock, but it’s also sort of rare in the US. But as far as functionality is concerned, I think the Midwest Industries works better for me because the connection method for accessories with Spuhr is proprietary I believe, so I’ll just end up putting picattiny rails on anyways. Let me ask you: with the AK4, what were the optics you used? Aimpoint Comp m4? LPVO?
@Psychonaut1974
@Psychonaut1974 6 ай бұрын
@@RTarms Thankyou :) Well, it's a long time i did my service, and my primary weapon then was the AK5, (FN FNC clone). The AK4's i was issued by then was just a basic one, iron sights, no optics, factory stocks, it was before Spuhr even existed as a company (i'm getting old!). The only ones that use the AK4D nowadays, is the homeguard, wich is similar to your national guard. Regular army has late versions of the AK5, but they are actually being slowly replaced as we speak (they are tested and approved, first delivery will start 2025), they are finnish made (SAKO) AR10/M4-like rifles, one chambered in 5.56 and one in 7.62. Also the old sniper rifle (wich is a modified version of the british Accuracy International L96A1) is being replaced by one in .338 Lapua Magnum, also made by SAKO.

@@RTarms And...according to what i've read, Aimpoint delivered both Comp M5 and MPS3 sights a few years back. They might have other sights aswell that i'm unaware of. And there's a special elite unit called SOG, Special Operations Group, they don't even wear M/90 camouflage, they have Multicam uniforms, and use different rifles, (H&K 417 for example). To my knowledge they're the only ones issued "non standard" equipment/armament.

@@Psychonaut1974 I forgot about Aimpoint being made there too. Man, you guys get all the cool stuff right there at your doorstep! That’s cool to hear a someone with actual experience with the AK4D and the Home Guard. I’ve heard, with the Ukrainian Russian War, that battlefield tactics of modern warfare have changed drastically in some aspects, and in other aspects, haven’t changed at all. Drones and thermal, for example. And a lot of 308 battle rifles were put in the backseat for the intermediate cartridge rifles like 5.56x45mm. But, they are starting to make a comeback now because of concern for enemy combatant body armor, and Special Operations have been asking for something with a little more reach and power since the global war on terror started over 20 years ago. All interesting stuff. I know a few folks that hunt here in the US. They speak highly of Tikka bolt action rifles (which is made by SAKO I believe) so I think you guys got a good deal with the new rifles!

I feel your pain with that damn set screw on the MI handguard; the PTR91 railed handguard is the same way. It's too bad, because like the Midwest Industries one, the PTR railed HG is actually really nice, but I'm not dealing with loctiting that damn screw every time I put the HG on or take it off. Why is it so hard for these companies to just use the factory pushpin? God damn! The only thing I can add is, although they are much harder to find now, the Brugger and Thomet G3 handguards are actually pretty good too, and not too heavy (heavier than the Spuhr one though). The B&T uses the factory pushpin, and has an adjustable collar at the front to fit to your rifle. The bottom rail cannot be removed, but it comes with a couple rail panels for the side and a wrench to install them.
@RTarms
@RTarms 3 ай бұрын
@@danielgreen6547 the B&T was on my list. I saw it on one of the Scandinavian country’s G3, but i couldnt find one for a decent price. I love the look of it, and the pic rail on the bottom. I didnt know the part about the adjustable collar. Hmm, maybe down the road ill grab one. *immediately logs off youtube and jumps online to shop*

The screws holding the handguards tightly to the gun are necessary if you intend to run an IR laser and need it to hold zero.
