I looked at hundreds of scopes. Found the Athlon Helos BTR 2-12X42 is the perfect size. It is very combat. Clears the handle big time. I used a AMD quick release mount. And a magpul PRS stock. Pop the mount off. Lower the cheek riser down. And ready to use the irons. Bill Springfield recoil buffer system and his trigger job. ZEV Industries muzzle device that reduces flash and recoil. He actually built my gun from a Cetme kit, PTR receiver, H&K Sights and PTR heavy stainless steel eighteen inch barrel. 😊

@RTarms Thank you! Your videos are helping me to make an informed purchase. I despise my money and PTR makes a damn nice clone rifle. I have a shopping cart full of upgrades on HKParts just waiting. Enhanced buffer, B&T handguards, enhanced trigger, etc.

@@F32_Rocket glad the vids are helping. The rifle is (or was) rather inexpensive, but modernizing it can get costly. Too costly to throw money away on accessories you won’t use…like I did. Optics are going to be my next video. I’ve got tons of info but this KZbin stuff is hard work. Especially the editing. Thanks for discussing and watching!

Criminally underrated channel for G3/PTR owners and the only long term project I've seen breaking down all the aspects, subbed! I've binged all these videos and it's interesting you've more or less done to your rifle what I did to mine. So a few things: 1. The Spuhr stock is not necessary, but the reason you perceive it as better is because, yes, it is more in-line. With every other stock including the Magpul adapter, the barrel line is just above the top of the stock, thus you will perceive the vertical recoil as more exaggerated, not the overall recoil as more forceful etc. It's very similar to the AK in some ways, but with a smaller cartridge its less exaggerated and more manageable. 2. As far as I know there are 4 military buffers and 2 commercial buffers offered. The military are the stock, improved stock, MSG-90/PSG-1, and HK21. The commercial ones are one that used to be sold years ago by HKParts and Bill Springfield's custom buffer. There's also a Choate buffer for a folding stock, but its just a thick rubber plug. The stock and improved stock are friction buffers whereas the MSG/PSG and HK21 are two stage spring buffers (I think).

@@JackTagar 1. With the spuhr stock, the most benefit ive got is moving the center of gravity of the rifle back towards my body. This sort of tricks the mind into thinking “oh now the gun is lighter and more svelte.” Which in a roundabout way, makes the recoil more manageable for me. 2. That’s a good breakdown. I completely forgot about the hk-21 buffer. I put in the msg-90 buffer, but it gets a tad confusing because some websites would list it as an “enhanced buffer” which lead to confusion. For me, i never notice the recoil improvements from just one thing, but the sum of all parts makes a difference. But, as stated in other vids, i dont expect it to run like an ar15, so recoil doesn’t bother me all that much. Thanks for commenting with the detailed response. Im always learning something new. One reason i started the channel!
@JackTagar
@JackTagar 3 ай бұрын
@@RTarms Sum of its parts is definitely a good way to put it. Between my hybrid brake, the 36 degree locking piece, the HKParts buffer, and Spuhr stock, the recoil is very mild and manageable. 9-hole put it best that its more of a push-pull feeling, rather than the sharp pop of an AR pattern. Then again mine is probably as heavy as a M249 with ammo and that tends to suck up a lot of the recoil. Certainly works better as a DMR than a room-clearer.

@ lol i feel you on the weight. One of the reasons i switched back to the sig romeo 7. If i ever did have to carry this thing for a while id be sore. Slings help enormously on distributing the weight to your body but just manipulation of the gun can get pretty heavy. I hate to admit it, but i got some golfer’s elbow from the gym on my support arm. It was healing up and then a day at the range with the ptr and it was inflamed again 😆. The joys of aging i guess

I’m tired of guntubes and the clickbait titles, misleading thumbnails, drama filled videos from grown men, begging for shares and subs, and rambling on about sponsors. I also think the metal retractable stock (the 2 position one) is fine for shooting. Almost always, I find it more comfortable than the fixed plastic stock...maybe because the buffers are slightly different? Also it might be my imagination, but it seems like the slightly heavier weight of the metal retractable stock seems to bring a bit more of the balance back to the rear, which is helpful.
@RTarms
@RTarms 4 ай бұрын
@@danielgreen6547 i agree with the weight shift. They both are (practically) the same LOP, but the retractable one is more comfortable for my build than the stock plastic one. My buffer in the retractable stock doesnt even have a piston, so you’d think it would be you to death but it feels fine. Kraut space magic strikes again.

@@RTarms You mean you can't put an enhanced buffer in the collapsible stocks? I just got one and also wanted the better buffer.
@RTarms
@RTarms 2 ай бұрын
@ enhanced buffers are usually longer. So with collapsible stocks like the spuhr and mag pul…the ones that have the long buffer tube space, yes you can. But the Retractible stock (the metal one that retacts along the side rails) you cant unless you go with a Bill Springfield custom buffer because the housing is shorter. Im explaining the difference brwn the two types of stocks because with this particular gun, people tens to use the words collapsible and retractible interchangeably, and they arent when it comes to buffer sizes. Hope that helps.

@RTarms
@RTarms 2 ай бұрын
@ oh yes. That one will only take the one it has, or (if you can get ahold of him) the Bill Springfield enhanced buffer for that specific stock. The enhanced buffer, msg1, and others are too long for the housing on the telescoping/retractible stock…and if memory serves (id have to look to verify) the telescoping stock has a different mounting system for its buffer instead of the two screws in normal placement

Have not used the Spuhr* style stock. Not talking bad about them.. just seems like a less polished (tho expensive) version of doing an end plate adapter and Magpul stock. I’ve owned the A3.. working on getting another. While heavy and not the most comfortable.. goddamn is it sexy.

I watched a report on the Ukraine war last week where a Ukrainian soldier was talking about the lack of resupply of batteries for his unit's optics and other devices. Maybe its not a bad idea to keep that old stock around , just incase you need to resort to iron sights.
@RTarms
@RTarms 8 ай бұрын
100% correct. The battery powered devices are only as good as the logistics to get the batteries to the fighting front. Even if you get the batteries there, tons can go wrong. Batteries can bust open, moisture can get in the housing for the battery (don’t ask me how I know) , the caps might not be tightened down all the way (don’t ask me that either lol), etc. So you have a great point.
