I like written orders for solo play because it makes the game quicker to play, you know what each command is doing, you're not mulling over your moves! The delay of a turn (typically) makes changing orders fun and interesting. The biggest difference, is the game really feels like a bunch of Corps trying to to perform separate tasks, unlike the "choreographed bar fight" feel of non-orders games. Of course, there is no confusion of orders, but the delays...Oh man!
