Well for my 15mm and 28mm Napoleonic's it is Battalion level so my Infantry Divisions have around 10 - 12 Battalions that are broken down into 2 - 3 Brigades or Regiments for Prussians. So since I use 24 figures per Battalion a Division would have 240 - 288 figures along with their Division & Brigade Commanders.

No denying it looks cool. For my purposes, I don't think I would want the extra time and pieces. I know if I mean for my block to be following the terrain, and I simply play that way. Nonetheless, the option to play that way is cool, and definitely more appropriate for smaller battles. Marengo and Antietam might be really cool with brigade blocks. but I think Gettysburg or Waterloo, cool as they would look, might get tiring to play. I'd definitely want to try it out and see! I would be willing to buy both sets, just to try it out.

I moved from hex & counter games to Columbia block games to Pub battles, can’t stand the stacking of counters anymore and I love the long PB blocks. I would enjoy a brigade level more detailed combat system, as most history books refer to brigade action when describing battles, but I would like to keep the same long blocks. So a bigger map maybe? Also I noticed your PB blocks stickers bear the name of the division and brigade commanders, while mine are just like “Heth L” and “Heth Right”. Is it standard now with the most recent games?

While I too prefer the Battalion scale for the reasons @winter9703 stated, I would love to see Regiment scale games in this system. In fact, why not offer the game in multiple scales using the same map since you demonstrate the use of multiple unit scales on the same map? A gamer like me who has been a supporter of the system even before Brandywine hit the streets, I'd love to buy unit blocks in multiple scales for the same game knowing I''d get a slightly different tactical feel of the battle when using the different scales of the units in a game. Keep up the good work.

For bigger battles, probabily the 2nd one is better (less room needed), but in my the movement rates should be equally halved, with 1 turn = 45 min instead of 90 minutes :)

Don’t hate me but I’d like to see more Battalion scale games - where each block is a company and four or six (simplified/standardized for gaming purposes) together form a battalion. I realize this is quite zoomed in, and a large battle like Waterloo or something similar would take up a lot of space… but at this scale we get to actually see the tactics that make the Napoleonic period so interesting: linear formation (and all the maneuvering headaches it caused), squares, different types of columns, etc.
@jacoblayer33582 ай бұрын
Brigade scale seems to be the sweet spot for me. You can more easily tailor differential division sizes based on numbers of brigades. Something else brigades offer is the ability to change formations a bit more (a division attacking in echelon or in column). Supporting brigades on an advance gives division deployment a more nuanced approach. For Napoleonics, formations play a much more pivotal role with heavy cavalry and more ubiquitous field artillery. Finally, brigades allow for less abstraction with casualties and cohesion as a result of combat.

@CommandPostGames10 ай бұрын
Yep. A tiny little change at the opening can have such a huge impact. What I like about this system is that it doesn't ruin the game! In other games, you are locked into holding the fixed positions on the map, regardless of how it opens. Here, the Feds can adjust their line of defense based on how it goes. It's all in the player's hands. Awesome!!

What if there were 3 half battalion s in one brigade(us) and 4 half battalion’s on the other (British) ? What would odd be then? And how many hits can a brigade take thats only has two half battalions in a brigade etc but the examples go on thanks Marshall.
@CommandPostGames11 ай бұрын
Ah. Good questions! If 4 blocks attack 3, that is a 1:1 attack. The British don't have enough for a 3:2. If the Colonials with 3 attacked the British, they would be attacking at 2:3, since they don't have enough for a 1:1. Easy! 4 blocks per unit is standard. They can only be 4 wide for command & control. They can stack up to 4 deep for bigger units. Yeah, if they only have 2 blocks, then they could take fewer hits. I'd follow the same guide. The first hit would flip the first block. Another hit would flip the next one. A third hit would destroy the entire unit.

@CommandPostGames Жыл бұрын
Oh yes. Great point. This is something we've been discussing lately. The rules are deceptively simple. The strategy of actually playing the game is VERY complex. New players are often overwhelmed at the possibilities and the implications of their decisions. There is a lot more going on than you realize at first.
@captainnolan5062 Жыл бұрын
Hits from artillery, if they reduce a unit, do carry over into combat (is this correct?). For example if the artillery bombarded a regular infantry and caused a hit (so the infantry was flipped to spent), then that result does carry over to combat (if the regular spent unit is attacked in the same turn) and the unit remains in its spent state during the ensuing combat.
@CommandPostGames Жыл бұрын
correct.
@captainnolan5062 Жыл бұрын
Although it was unstated in the video, I presume that when you were trying to avoid being flanked (2:48), you had to stay out of the field of fire of the colonials, as required by the rules and thus you made the "horseshoe" shaped formation (i.e., to guard the flanks and stay out of the field of fire of the colonials).
@captainnolan5062 Жыл бұрын
Interesting that you call the blank block a "detachment", and the rules (3.0) call them " disbursed troops." I much prefer the label "detachment" as it makes it clear what the unit represents. I think of "disbursed troops" as troops who have suffered some combat effect or are in some kind of difficult terrain (like heavy woods).

Great questions! When you fire guns at another ship, they have to pull the Damage Cards. More or less depending on the range, number of guns and if it's a broadside or raking shot. You can also board and try to seize their ship, if you can get into range. You earn points in 3 ways: transporting cargo, stealing ships and cargo or capturing/sinking pirates.
