In Kingdom Hearts Lore (Which is apparently canon to Disney lore) Pete and Mickey used to be friends until well after the events of Steamboat Willie.

Pete actually wasn't such a bad guy. Mickey would keep stealing rides without paying for a ticket, and driving Pete's boat without his permission. Mickey while not outright malicious, was alot more mischievous in the order cartoons and that's the Mickey I want to see more often. (Other than the first draft of Epic Mickey)

Disney are the ones advocating extremely hard to set a precedent that sees registered corps as being valid entities towards voting in official elections. They are scarily close to being able to vote in Florida State elections and even in Presidential elections. They are basically lobbying to have all the same privileges and treatments as a regular citizen under law, essentially allowing members of their board to legally vote and influence the state and city elections of places that they don't even live in. Imagine Pepsi Co. Board members having a say in your city elections just because they're officially registered in your State and have a plant in your city. Now take that, and amplify it across the entire nation. Suddenly, in something like a presidential election, a corporation would literally have more rights and representation than the individual voter. They could out influence and out vote us because their board members can double, triple, quadruple dip into the voting system across several states and cities. It's actually extremely terrifying.

@@Gizzardx0 No, it IS Mickey. There are three short films by Walt Disney that are now in the public domain: "Plane Crazy", "The Gallopin' Gaucho", and "Steamboat Willie". In all three cases, the character is called "Mickey Mouse". In fact, since it is the original character, it's the more recent versions that are inaccurate renditions of it, and that should be called "Disney Corporation Mickey Mouse", rather than preface the real Mickey Mouse with anything extra.

to be fair, Disney's behavior over the last decade has really gaslit people's creativity. Disney also delaying it twice, which is still an insufferable cukk move from the same company that uses other public domain properties...which only further fuels those flames. You want people to not care as a copyright owner, yet the gyno cukk company Disney makes people do otherwise. Well that is what you get when that certain tribe takes over things they never created themselves. They always gaslight people as well...seems to be their thing.

@@davidhong1934 Yeah I've had that thought too imagine like a Smash Bros for Public Domain characters I actually went out of my way to make some pixel art sprites of the fighters and logo as well the title I imagined was "Public Dojo" as a play on "Public Domain" and 4 characters in the roster (keep in mind I don't have all the details fleshed out but I'd like to hear what peoples takes on their movesets would be!): William "Mikki" Mouse (Steamboat Willie/Mickey) - Basically the Mario of the game, being a middleweight brawler with no real specialties more of a 'balanced' character so to speak. His Side+B I was thinking (since he uses a duck for music in the short) he's pull out a duck and would use it as an "Egg Gun" the egg would cause contact damage to the opposing player but could be broken if attacked enough. His final would take from "Plane Crazy" as he rams a plane into any opposing combatants. Ozzie Bunny (Oswald the Lucky Rabbit) - Stat wise he's basically akin to Luigi being more on the lightweight side of course this means he'd be easier to launch compared to Mikki but to compensate that I'd make his attacks hit harder, but require more skill to successfully execute I'd like to imagine he could use his ears in combat or to swipe away healing items in someway not quite sure yet. Philix Kat (Felix the Cat) - He'd probably be the same weightclass as Mikki, but a bit speedier - not to Sonic levels mind you, but definitely quicker, based on my research Felix has a bag which is said that we can't use it (at least not in the form depicted in his cartoons) so I'd swap it out for a backpack instead, and his moveset would definitely make use of his bag o' tricks. His Down+B on ground will cause him to pull a hazardous item out of his bag the item is randomized so in some cases the item can be picked up and used by other players but in others (such as the bomb item) they need to steer clear or get 4 ways of pain. Xero (Zorro) - A swordfighter likely on the heavyweight side, making him hard to launch he uses his sword for his attacks due to this he has greater reach than a brawler, I imagine this one being the kind who is great at ranged combat but not so much when up-close and personal having limited options as such it'd be best to keep your foe at a distance and attack that way but that's not to say he won't have any options when in close range - it just those options hit less hard encourging them be used to create distance. Cthulhu - No moveset yet but just the abusurdity of the Mouse going against Cthulhu is too good to pass up, I'm sorry. Probably heavyweight by default he'd be in a more humanoid-esque form and when using his final would turn into his more "traditional" form.

An "iconic voice" isn't something you can trademark or hold the rights to, for obvious reasons. And neither are extremely common names like Pete, Minnie, or Mickey. Im legitimately curious if these studios out there really think that when a big-name character is in the public domain, then that immediately means that we want to see them as horror serial killers; why not just make a wholesome, cute animated movie about Winnie the Pooh or a silly, fun, friendly Mickey Mouse movie, I don't know?

Jagged Edge put out a Winnie the Pooh horror movie last year when the copyright on that expired. Despite the majority negative reviews (both critics and audience), it still made $5.2 million against a $100,000 budget. Seeing that and knowing that Steamboat Willie was about to be public domain, I'm not surprised other studios prepared to make their own cheaply-made movie using a well-known character to try to do the same. They are horror movies only because the Winnie the Pooh movie was a horror movie. If it had been a romantic comedy, they'd be doing that instead. And the video game is along the same lines, but with a potential dash of white supremacist Neo-Nazism sprinkled in. So that's fun.
