The battle was drawn between one side who believed that they entered into the Union of their own free volition and therefore they could withdraw in the same way. The other side insisted that they stay and therein lay the conundrum. Chattel slavery was a pox on the history of humanity but only the West killed each other to eradicate it once and for all. Slavery still exists in some parts of the world and legally existed in many non-western countries far after the Civil War and into the 20th century. I’m sure you are as critical of the Eastern and African countries that continued the legacy of slavery well into the 20th century where your impeccable steed, that high horse called Morality, can actually be applied with merit, right? Or is it just the European’s that carry the burden of your perfect morality that didn’t even exist in 1863? One final point, if you are pro-abortion then you should realize that people in that day would consider that infanticide. Morality is a slippery fish.
