One of the biggest myths is probably” if you aren’t hunting everyday you’re never gonna get anything” some people think this but what they don’t realize is they put pressure on stands and don’t realize it deer aren’t stupid they notice !

Not so much a myth but more a misconception, is that it’s too expensive to get into hunting for someone new to the sport. Permission properties and cheaper options can make it pretty cheap and well worth it.

I would say the biggest hunting myth in my opinion is that camouflage is important. I think deer rely more on scent and movement than they notice what you’re wearing. Countless stories of individuals in something other than camo and successfully harvesting a mature animal.

October Lull! It could be different depending upon state but i’ve never just seen the shut down that some people talk about. I think some people move off of early season afternoon food sources when they see that first scrape or rub. As tempting as those are, they won’t be very consistent until close to pre rut/rut. Once again this could vary depending upon state!

Funny thing is all my other buddies are dragging out trophy bucks in October. Here I am sitting in the below zeros watching squirrels wrestle…

I think the biggest hunting myth relates to the dry doe. Some people think that if a doe doesn’t have fawns with her in early season that she is potentially an older doe and could be on the way outs which in fact is probably not true. These deer live out in the wild and a lot of different scenarios could have happened to her fawns. I do like to think that if a doe doesn’t have fawns with her though that it would be a good one to shoot since her fawns aren’t relying on her especially come September when they are old enough to survive on their own most likely.
@danaustin57773 ай бұрын
I believe the biggest myth is that public land sucks and is overcrowded. with some effort and a few years of experience you can avoid people most of the time and still have good hunts. A couple run ins a year with other hunters is a lot better than dumping 500 grand on a farm for hunting as far as I am concerned.
@KaleDowning2 ай бұрын
Man Guards is a giant!! I think the biggest myth is not to bother hunting in high winds. I’ve seen big deer move in high winds and I’ve killed a couple in high winds, especially if it slows down just a touch as the sun sets.

I do not believe the higher a tree stand is, the better it will produce. Some of my favorite stand sit only 10-15 feet off the ground. Blending, scent control, and managing the stands position are much more critical than the height or level of the stand.
@drewhartman66102 ай бұрын
I think the biggest myth is that bucks scrape heavy after a rain because they want to clean their scrapes out. Deer naturally move on weather events and I think thats why you see elevating scraping events after a rain.

This myth is more location based but growing up in Oklahoma, I was always told by older hunters that the reason Oklahoma don't see very many big bucks is because of the deer herds genetics. Once Oklahoma started actively wanting doe's killed to get the state's overall doe:buck ratio right, that's when the state started to shine. It wasn't because of genetics, it was due to areas having to many doe to buck per square mile. One of my area's I hunted, I would see anywhere from 20 to 35 doe before I'd ever see a buck and when I would see that buck, it was normally a spike. Not only were the deer fighting each other for nutrients to grow, the bigger, older bucks didn't have to go anywhere during the rut due to so many doe around them. In my area, a 60" buck was big and when someone would kill an actual big buck, they were accused of being poachers because it was so rare too see.

I think the biggest myth is that when you spook that deer you’ll never see em again. While obviously every situation is different and every deer can react differently, a lot of my late summer scouting there’s times I’ll spook does and bucks, buck it’s like the next time your out you see the same ones. While it’s definitely different during the season, not every spooked deer will disappear.

Biggest hunting myth has to be that you need to have farm fields to have big deer. Although yes it's nice I've been fortunate that I have a small family piece of only 10 acres that borders some ag land and has more rut activity than any farm property I have permission to hunt. Little diamond in the rough. Easily would've been overlooked but has been my most productive spot for the last week of Oct./ early Nov. Every season

I think the biggest myth is that deer go nocturnal. The research done at Mississippi State University deer lab doesn't show that to be the case. Deer may change their travel patterns but they are daylighting somewhere it may just not be where we want them to be.
