They were settling in the middle of a school parking lot and I had two concerns.
#1 That they would jump during the pickup causing problems
#2 I wanted to reduce the Number of Bees in the air.
Right now they were telling people to roll up their windows and go to the far end of the lot for pickup.
I knew that if the Queen got on brood comb she would get those workers busy focusing on the bucket and no longer protecting her or looking for a new home.
Solution - Fresh Brood in a Throne and a Vac.
Using a Throne up high and allowing them to walk in would keep the disturbance up in the tree and concentrated. Shaking here would be a mess.
I put a small section of Live Brood in the Throne bracket and placed it in contact with the swarm. In just a few minutes I could see the Limb clearing.
Once the Limb was reduced to just a few hundred Bees I moved the Throne down and away to break contact and then brushed the remaining bees slowly in the air. They settled quickly on the Throne nearby.
After waiting another 15 minutes I lowered it. Vacuumed off the outside and put the lid on. Raised it backup for about 30 minutes (caught up on paperwork).
Lowered and Vacuumed again.
Now the few in the air could settled on the Throne until it is picked up and I had a large number in a vacuum bucket reducing the number outside.
Will recombine them tonight.
