Public Transport on Cuba, April/May 2017

In April 2017 I started my second journey through Cuba. In this video some impressions of this trip.

Rijden ze er nu nog?. Mooi dat ze op deze manier dan verder leven. Vind dit mooier om te zien dan dat hier een dak er af word gehaald om er een cabrio van te maken. Of dat een crosser de achterkant verpest om zijn auto er in te parkeren

Veel zaken werden in de jaren 60-70-80 veel meer gebouwd op levensduur en veel werd overgedimensioneerd. Sommige dingen werden dus zwaarder dan absoluut noodzakelijk gebouwd, waardoor de levensduur enorm was (ja, als je tegenwoordig 'duurzaamheid' hoort vallen, dan is zo'n oude bus daar eigenlijk een beter voorbeeld van). Ander verschil was dat de bussen toen in opdracht van de rijksoverheid gebouwd werden en veel busondernemingen onder NS-vleugels bestierd werden. NS was toen een staatsbedrijf, dus het moest betrouwbaar zijn én de Nederlandse industrie stond met dit soort zaken goed bekend (treinen en trams van Werkspoor en Beijnes hadden ook een naam). Voor motoren en pompen was Stork de naam en zo was Nederland echt geen kleintje in de technische industrie.

USA sanctions on Cuba is one big reason. One has to ask "why are sanctions legal?"...

probably because they don't have the natural resources in cuba to do so, keep in mind they are a tiny island.
