Story 2: What is up with men who won’t have their wife’s back against their mother? In my world, insulting my wife is 100x worse than insulting me. And I don’t tolerate insults from anyone.

My dad once said to someone trying to badmouth my mom, you may say or do what you want about me but you after my wife and I won't answer for what happens next. Suffice to say, no one dare say a thing after that

I hope Emily eventually realizes how toxic her mother is and goes no contact with her because it seems like she was starting to understand that being a spoiled brat will get you nowhere except deeper into a metaphorical (and sometimes tragically literal) grave which gets harder to escape from the deeper you go.

Story 1: Why do some men actually go somewhere else if their wives lock them out of the bedroom or even their own house? A married house is home to both parties, not just the wife. It’s nothing but weakness to go get a hotel room or ask family to house you after such a tirade.

Story 2: The grandmother believes in corporal punishment on a child! Let’s just call a spade of spade that grandma is abusive, and she meant what she said when she was going to whip her granddaughter into shape! I wouldn’t allow that woman within an inch of my daughter!

I have a looooong story about my aunt that i am dying to post, but i am worried it ever getting to the family (not that any of them have my reddit, but still, the fear is there). It has everything from mistresses and children out of wedlock back stories (yes, more than one), years of fighting over money, sibling betrayal, trying to exclude people from the family over friendships and a enemies-to-friends side story…. Technically I don’t owe her nothing, I don’t have any connection to her and the only reason we keep up the familial respect is because of my grandparents, else i would have gone and talked to her myself about her treatment of my parents and siblings. She is a full grown adult that runs to her dad every time we don’t write her or send her children happy birthday wishes (we have literally zero connection to those people) and will insert herself into any issue ad non-issue that doesn’t concern her and is the sole reason we lost a house and why we had a bad relationship with our step-grandma. Can’t wait to cut all ties to her entirely, and if she asks (because Im not gonna look for her lol) tell her exactly why i gave up on trying to have any relationship with her.

Story 2. You did this to urself op by staying with him all that time. You allowed urself to be treated that way, you allowed them to treat you that way, you allowed all of that to happen by staying with him, marrying him n having a child with him.

SO YOU'RE BLAMING THE PREGNANT WIFE FOR TRYING TO KEEP HER FAMILY TOGETHER, BUT NOT THE JACKASS HUSBAND WHO IS THE WAY HE IS BECAUSE OF HIS DUMB A$$ MOTHER?GTHOH!! WELL SHE FINALLY LEARNED HER LESSON. THE HUSBAND AND MOM WILL DEFINITELY BE ROOMATES AS THEY GET OLDER BECAUSE NO ONE IS GOING TO PUT UP W/ THERE B.S. FOR LONG.

the thing is there is more nuance to this than just simply "allowing him to". They started dating when he was 23-24 and she was 18! And gaslighting is a common abuse tactic, making people think that THEY themselves are the problem, not the actual person abusing them. Please stop placing blame on abuse victims.
