I'm 75 & when I was 16, my grandfather introduced me to his friend, Richard Konter, who had accompanied Admiral Byrd on two expeditions to both the North Pole (1926) & Antarctica (1928-30). He graciously gave me envelopes & a form letter, dated Dec. 28th,1929, which were originally mailed from "Little America"! Mr. Konter gained fame when he got married, for the first time, at age 80 & appeared on the 1950's t.v. show "Life Begins at 80"! Still have the letter & envelopes!

@MerchantsOfMisery2 жыл бұрын
This video's being on KZbin for the last decade. I don't think the government keeps things like this from the public, and I don't think this guy was right about the majority of his predictions. Byrd relies heavily on vagueries, i.e. claiming that Antarctica enough coal to "supply the whole world for quite a while"-- notice how he doesn't give any specific range of time, i.e. "enough to supply the whole world for 25/50/75 years"? Instead, he just says "quite a while". Also, resource extraction is more than half the battle. Lithium is found all over the world, but the real challenge is being able to build the infrastructure to transport resources from the point of extraction to around the world. Building and maintaining mining operations in Antarctica where the mean annual temperature is -70.6°F or -57°C would be outrageously challenging and the efforts needed to keep machinery (and people) running in such a harsh environmental would far outweigh the benefits of resource extraction. Uranium mining causes all kinds of horrific health and environmental issues, and even when he mentions that they've supposedly found evidence of uranium deposits... he provides no proof whatsoever and again, more than half the battle is resource extraction and building the necessary infrastructure to support large scale mining operations. The same goes with any food storage-- there are a million better alternatives to long term food storage compared to shipping food to Antarctica and then retrieving it years later. I understand why people like this guy-- he's got a nice way with words, but in my opinion he strikes me as a salesman more than any kind of legitimate scientist. He presents zero evidence to support his assertions aside from basically saying "just trust me bro I've seen it I swear", but in a nice old timey way. His claims can be followed up by looking at how true/accurate they turned out to be, and thus far... the only thing he's correct about is that scientists have been interested in the Antarctic, but for reasons a lot more boring than what he's claiming. I don't think many people who believe this guy can comprehend the laundry list of challenges involved in working in antarctic conditions. For people, the climate is incredibly difficult to deal with because outdoor work is inevitably required at various points and for machinery, the challenges are a lot different in such a cold environment compared to warmer environments. Byrd is drastically overstating the habitability of Antarctica.

Admiral Byrd, a Naval Admiral, discovered more than he is permitted to speak publicly about. There is a reason multiple countries have divided Antarctica into sovereign territories. Antarctica has land a few miles below the ice and snow. Currently, due to President Carter, we no longer own the Panama Canal. The governments of the world control the spread of information. It's refreshing to hear an actual non-agenda information seminar.

@@Roddysue it’s not speculative; Byrd was remarking on the landmass that hadn’t been reached by humans by that time. Antarctica is huge and the South Pole is most easily accessed by a route that goes from the ocean to the Ross Ice Shelf along McMurdo Sound, and then onto land up the Beardmore Glacier and onto the Polar Plateau. Scott, Amundsen, Shackleton and Byrd had travelled towards the pole by this route as it was the most convenient and fastest. And then they’d turn around and come home. But if you carried on straight past the South Pole, heading north, you’re on a massive inhospitable wasteland that makes up most of the Antarctic continent. You would eventually reach the ocean but it would take you far longer than the ‘convenient route’ I spoke about. So, no, the world is not flat and Byrd was not inferring that.

No one will ever be allowed there again after what he said. He gave us a BIG clue
@twocyclediesel1280 Жыл бұрын
There’s nothing there and he knew it. Nothing other than the resources he mentioned. What he also said was that the North Pole has become very militarized. That’s key. The north has been heavily militarized because we are surrounded by the Arctic Circle. Antarctica lies at the center of this flat motionless plane. It’s the complete opposite of what they’ve lead us to believe. The Arctic Circle borders those vast lands that everyone talks about being near Antarctica. The fact that there’s nothing down there but a couple of research stations testifies to that. Obviously the gateway to those kinds of resources and regions is going to be heavily militarized, as the Arctic has been for a long time now. He basically tells us the truth in this interview. Antarctica is just a red herring.
