Thank you for posting this. We will be doing a publix stop on the way to Disney from the airport to get some essentials. This gives us a good idea of what supplies we can expect to get.

Thanks for doing this! I have lived in Israel for the past 7 years and I really miss great super markets like Publix. Shopping here is definitely not even close to the same as in the US! Just try living outside of the US and you will see.

Interesting, thanks for sharing this. I am British, and I'd like to note a few difference to British supermarkets based on what I've seen in this video... Probably the biggest difference I notice about American shops is the colours. The colours there seem more earthy, with more browns and darker oranges. You just would never see those orangey browns in our supermarkets. The colour palettes in British Supermarkets are always very white and light and "fresh" and "vivid". Like if you imagine the colour of toothbrushes and toothpaste - that is the colour of our Sueprmarkets. The emphasis is on "sterile" and "clean" and "fresh". Whereas it seems the American colours try to place emphasis on "earthy" and "traditional" and "agriculture". On the shelves, there seems to be a LOT more oranges and yellowy colours. I think in British packaging, those are colours we associate with unhealthiness, staleness, insipidness and fat. I think on British shelves you would see more bright whites and more vivid and bold colours which use the full spectrum, very strong colours which really jump out more. That "bakery" section with all the tables is definitely something you don't see in England. I notice you pronounce "bakery" as a two-syllable word and we pronounce it as 3 syllables ("bay kuh ree"). The outdoor lights seem a lot brighter than British outdoor lights. You pronounce coupon "kyoopon" and we say "koopon". LOL I don't know if it's just your camera, but American supermarkets seem a little quieter and calmer than British supermarkets. In our supermarkets there is always constant noise and commotion everywhere: the beeping from the dozens of tills, and always loud echoey noises from the ceiling. Most British supermarkets don't play music thankfully, but the ones which do I think play it a little louder than this. I can barely hear the music on this video. One very irritating thing you don't seem to get is announcements over the loudspeakers (eg "This is a customer announcement, why not try our new ham at the delicatessen counter?" or "Colleague call, can Sharon come to aisle 4 please"). It may just be that you didn't film it, but I wonder where all the fruit and veg was? When you walk into any British supermarket, the first section you come to is always the fresh fruit and veg. Based on this video alone, this didn't look like a very healthy shop! :) Well that's just about all I have to say. There doesn't seem to be a huge difference between British and American shops and I think the main one is colours! :)

Very well observed. Americans have definitely a different sense when it comes to design and colour compared to Europeans. I don't know much about British supermarkets, but in German supermarkets you also don't find these brown shades. The preference for brown shades in the U.S. isn't limited to supermarkets, it's everywhere. Maybe it should make places more cozy looking? But from a European perspective it just looks strange. Even new grocery stores in the U.S. tend to look outdated from a German perspective, just because of the colours and the design. Even the Aldi stores in the U.S. uses a lot more brown shades. Similar to European grocery stores, the produce department is in U.S. grocery stores normally also placed at the beginning. I think the reason why you don't hear much noise is that she visited the store in the late evening or during the nigth, or it's the camera. The noise level in American supermarkets is definitely higher than in Germany. Almost everything in the U.S. tend to be quite noisy. They do have announcements over loudspeakers in U.S. supermarkets. Overall I prefer German supermarkets over American ones. Nicer designed, more modern, larger delicatessen departments and much cheaper. But American ones have some advantages over German ones. They are more spacious, they are easier to navigate (mostly just very long aisles) and the store assistants are much more service oriented.

Yeah a ***** America sells lots of poor quality food too. Full of poisons. That's why so many Americans have health issues. (it's all about that mighty dollar! From being exposed first hand to different countries.....many other countries quality of food is superior. Puerto Rico's fruits and veggies are delicious. They smell great too!

Year late response, but Publix has amazing customer service! Plus, they carry so many different products and their prepared food (baked goods, subs, chicken, etc.) are really good. And Publix isn't always expensive. They always have deals like sales and buy one get one free. The atmosphere is very clean and welcoming and they even accept coupons from competitor stores.

The variety of a US super market is great but the prices are crazy. What happened to the country that is famous for low expense on living?
@acoatofgold5627
@acoatofgold5627 9 жыл бұрын
Publix isn't a low expense store at all. People will go because its a regional market, but there are much cheaper stores. Publix tries to sell itself on quality, hence the added expense, but it is not inexpensive. But there has also never been a cultural movement for people to assume America is cheap, unless that is an international assumption I am unaware of.
@sebastianurbas7699
@sebastianurbas7699 8 жыл бұрын
+Demarco Williams The gross profit margin of Publix is about 27%. For such a margin I would expext an extremely upscale, modern, and beautiful designed grocery store but not such a shoddy warehouse style grocery store. The EBT margin was 8.4% in 2014. That's extremely high. Publix is completely overcharging their customers. And the competition doesn't seem to work properly. The authorities should sentence the grocery retail industry for this ripoff. Many Americans often state on the internet that America is cheaper than most other advanced countries. That's strange. Sometimes I think Americans learn that at highschool, because there are so many Americans with that opinion.

I have honestly never heard of America as a cheap country. Asian countries are much cheaper than we are such as Korea or Thailand, but in a public school (the majority of our population is taught from non-private schools), we are not taught anything about an international market.

I thought expenses on living would be lower in the us than in Germany. But maybe this was caused by low currency exchange rates many years ago.
