She applies her vocal resources in service to the drama and character in such an appropriate and exquisite manner. For me, her voice, in and of itself is not as sumptuous as say , Price, Tebaldi or Maliponte. But, her artistry is so comlete as to make the whole so much larger than the voice as a singular consideration. Brava, to this remarkable woman!!!

This is the most wonderful Tosca film where the staging is perfection with Angela in such glorious red, crackling like fire as she sings her poignant aria. The director was a genius, and the finale lit in moody blue on Castel sant'Angelo and that red cape representing love and passion and blood.......the three lead singers are just awesome . Could watch this every day.

Tenho o DVD. Talvez seja a melhor versão da melhor Opera de Puccini. É bom lembrar a cantora da estreia foi a mesma da estreia da Odaleia de Carlos Gomes, uma década antes.

Gheorghiu's performance is beautiful although I will always prefer Tebaldi, and I always felt she was the better half of the legendary marriage and collaborations with Alagna. Casting Raimondi as Scarpia was genius. Technically, the syncing is a fraction off, it's noticeable but easily overlooked.

Forever Callas - Gheorghiu is far and away from Opera in general and Tosca, as her "idol" Virginia Zeani. Both understood nothing from opera, both want to be different from Maria - as another stupid - Renata Scotto. The director want to copy Zefirelli but failed - the plate with beef in blood is horrible - Maria never had a knife in hand and blood don't the night robe in mad scene in Lucia and she explain that those violent visual things disturb the artistic emotion - he - Zefirelli was also genius in London production in 1964 - look at the recording - how Maria put on the table the glass of wine that Scarpia previously offered her, see the shining of the knife, how she keep the glass like she want to broke it in her hand, after the way how Maria took the knife in her hand and strike Scarpia - the scene in this recording is far to be credible - like a man like Scarpia offer himself to tosca to be penetrated and after play in her knife not even training to run away from her or to harm her. Oposite Maria strike Scarpia - Tito Gobi - an other genius - and he instantly fall down. For sure she was so good - it was something anecdotic - when Maria was singing Tosca at met on 1956 her Scarpia was George London, and he confessed to his wife he had doubt about Maria - a lot of stupids said it was a difficult partner. The wife of George London said to him "be brave my darling, the worst thing that can happen to you could be she would realy kill you"...
