Puckett Cigar Box Guitar

These 1.5'' sticks look to be Douglas Fur. They have been in the weather for so long they have become PETRIFIED !! They are remarkably SOLID !!! Perfect for a Cigar Box Guitar Neck !!! Here is a detailed step by step tutorial showing the neck building process. Obviously, this is one way to skin the cat, there are many many other ways to do this. If you find these building videos useful and helpful and you wish to say thank you, please consider a click on the donate tab located on the upper right of my youtube channel.

I play guitar and have a full-blown woodworking shop. It's a challenge to even think of making a 3 or 4-string instrument, especially without using my square and at least some power equipment. This is why I like you; the relaxed way you present this stuff eases my pain and lets me know it's OK to lighten up on my furniture-grade precision. I mean this in a good way. If I could afford it I would bring you down here and have you with me for a build or three. Keep putting these videos up; they're appreciated. BTW, I'm making my own boxes and they employ dovetails. Peace.

If you turn the handle of your belt sander up 90 degrees and clamp the sander upside down in your vise, you'll have an instant bench grinder. Either way, that B&D thing is a joy to work with

Working on my 1st and I have nothing but a hand saw, files and a drill. I may still have to purchase a smaller hand saw for the fret slots. I live in an apartment so major power tools are not possible to use in my living situation. So thank you for showing how to shape the back of a cb guitar neck by hand. Reminds me of when I used to surf and watching surfboard makers hand shape the rails of surfboards using light to see where they need to sand. It seems like an unappreciated art.

Somehow I stumbled upon your videos without any intention of making a guitar. After now watching them all, I just have to make one. Ahhh KZbin, you've done it again !!! :) Edit, I just remembered why I stumbled on your videos, we are sponsoring a group in Cambodia who connect with street kids there. We sent them some money to buy instruments, and I did wonder if it was possible to teach them how to make their own.

Very cool! Thanks a lot for all the info on this channel, I'm building my first, carving the neck at the moment. It's from a little fir tree pole I found at the hardware store that just happened to be the perfect size 😄

Awesome work! Ever tried steaming a neck to set a slight bow in your favor? Might also help resurrect a old neck as well if you could get it back in shape.

Thanks for the great info you put out there, It is very helpful. As I build my CBG I refer back to your info. Do you put any clear coats on your CBG ?

You could also have made it a 20/21' fret board and that would have brought the bridge further onto the box. I have found that makes a better acoustic sound

Hey Del, u need a router and a round over bit to do does necks and a table top bandsaw wouldn’t be a bad idea, save on all that wear and tear on those joints. U would still get to use those files and sand paper but not as much. Do u sell JI fretboards for a 23” scale.....love ur videos, thank U.

Del, can you explain why you have the bridge 1" from the edge of the box? In another video you said you place the bridge 2 1/2" from the edge of the box. How do you decide where it will be? Have you made a video on that? Thanks.

I got to ask you a question. I ordered a fully fretted fretboard from C.B Gitty. Should the fret spacying be the same as a guitar fret spacing because the one I received are not. This is my first attempt at building my first cigar box. Thanks

hey Del, so when you angle the box relief on the neck does that mean I need to raise the rear box cut out the same to raise it up to level?
@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar
@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar 6 жыл бұрын
I cut the box to match the thickness of the wood going thru so there are no gaps (assuming you have the rear piece popping out which is not always the case) - this is one of THE most important aspects of my builds.

Again I am sorry, and you speak understendebly (wow new word) but just on the edge. OK, if you look at this spelling of mine (lol) you can see in what shape is my english, so it's my falt. Wish you all good. Stay heavy (it's a little inside joke of my, 50.000 ppl smal town, rock scene, cuz we all started with HM music.... Your neck is prb blue, sorry)
