So to lift the front end 1 1/2" due to the angles and the position of the spring you should have only needed 3/4" spacer. My guess is with the springs being compressed an extra 1 1/2" probably has the upper control arm maxed right out and the spring pressure is insane causing the rough ride.. all of this to say if u cut your spacers in half you will probably retain the same lift but improve ride quality
@PuddinsFabShop2 жыл бұрын
Bingo, I didnt really think about that until after i drove it for the first time and realize how stiff it is. Which is funny because I like to use the leverage when doing airride knowing I get more lift and a softer ride. Same concept with the more lift. All that being said I was obviously not thinking clear as I didnt even account for the shocks when building the spacer. The good news is im starting to locate parts for the 4x4 swap already. lol
@thenomad012 жыл бұрын
I agree, the inboard spring means a spacer will lift more than its own measured thickness due to the angles of the arms ans spindle. Maxed out the motion. Could try a spring block to prevent a few coils from compressing, or cut the spacer, trim the inside out to mount the shocks.

Alot of KZbinrs are so caught up in money and "fame" that they are only worried about putting out a video every day and all that. I respect the hell out of you Puddin. Thank you for all you do for us, but moreso what you do for your family. Seeing hotrod and the others on here makes my day. I can see the love you have for those girls and your wife. Ha! I remember those! In 1992, I had a job working in a repair shop for U-Haul in Renton Washington. On a hill behind the shop we had a whole bunch of mothballed rigs and trailers that weren't usable anymore. They were basically parts pieces to repair anything that rolled into the shop that was still in use. We sold off all of that stuff sometime around the summer of that year. I remember none of them ran, so we cleared everything off the upper lot and rolled all those rigs down the hill. Brakes work? SURE they do! 😉 That was a fun ride down the hill 😱 I was told those old Couriers were decommissioned in the late 80's when we received the "TM" trucks, which were 1 ton Toyota's with a 10' box. 3 litre V6 under the hood really made those scoot!

Good video Puddin. The wheels and tires make that vehicle look tough and ready to lean into some hard work. What can you do to soften the front-end ride without spending too much money? Puddin' the Half-Hawl is definitely 110% better now than it ever was on a budget build. I'm figuring you might've taken less time to do a 1'' hockey puck lift on the cab and front clip section instead and then put the springs back the way they were. The cab would match the height of the box. It might match the wheels better too along with hogging out the fender wheel openings with a saws-all and then install a couple of them universal plastic jeep fender extensions to hide the handy work.

Years ago I worked on a ranch that bought two 4x4 Courier conversions from a Ford dealer. They weren't done very well, but they determined all jeep parts were used including transfer case w/adaptor, front leaf springs and differential while keeping the stock Courier diff. Needless to say the front gearing and rear gearing didn't exactly match and made for interesting drives when 4X4 was engaged. After that they bought Chevy Luv 4x4's until Ford came out with the Ranger. Keep up the great videos.

I don't care about lifting or not lifting; to each his own. The truck looks very nice with the decals and bright rims. Your fab skills are extraordinary. (TRIVIA: I'm also a USAF Vet, Vietnam edition. Over there, the trucks the Vietnamese drove on our base had sealed pipes attached to the wheels that were filled with some sort of hard metal. possibly round or flat stock, that slid from end to end that caused quite a loud clanking noise when the trucks moved.) The 4WD install should be very interesting. In the meantime, God bless.
