You should look into some sort of shade fabric to cover that center area between the buildings to keep the direct sun off those doors and give you a nice shady area to work outside between the two buildings.

Was thinking of another shed roof structure about 20' beyond those garage doors, covered parking like you have on the newest building! Your shop will always be evolving into what works best for you and the channel and merchandise . Looking great Puddin'.

I would add a car port type cover out o the middle shop. It would shield the doors from heat and also give you 3 or more car sheltered parking from hail and rain. Also would shield the sides of the 2 arms of the building from the sun and help the AC keep it cool

Evaporation = cooling! The fans don't cool the room, the air movement speeds up sweat phase-change (like A/C) so you cool down more easily. You're the one doing the cooling, not the fan! Hooray sweat

If you insulate the doors, you should have the garage door company come back out and recalibrate the tension on the springs so they don't snap under the additional weight

Instead of turning off the A/C units then running them full on to get the temperature down, you would find it cheaper to have a thermostat with a night setback. This way you could set it to maintain 78 at night then drop down to 70 a half hour before you start working. I believe you would see a drop in your electric bill or at least the same. Ever time you let the space get real hot, the A/C unit must first remove the humidity before it drops the room temperature. So leave it on just at a warmer setting.

That’s not a bad idea, businesses do that, they’ll have a schedule set up on the thermostat Monday to Friday during business hours it’s set at one temp and after hours and weekends set for another but seeing as Puddin’s working all week long he’ll just need the two settings. And as others have suggested if he puts a carport roof over the outside area between the two shops he’ll not only gain covered parking but he’ll protect those doors from direct sunlight so he may not have to insulate those doors.

actually the items in the room need to get cold, or worm they hold the conditioned air. air holds nothing. ceiling fans in winter to blow hot air down. summer lower fans for spot areas.

Lots of you tube videos on that. I use foil backed insulation sheets on my windows to cut dow on radiant heat, here in ca the sun is a killer. Aluminum is a great reflector of suns rays. It makes a hugh diffo, sun comes in heats the room items. bounce it out. I use a digital thermo window side over 100 easily. thermo on room side of foil insulation is a cool room temp. amazing difference. works on garage doors too. me i love my foil backed foil out in summer flip for winter bounce heat back into room makes it quieter too.

Would definitely do the insulated wall with double doors. Would Insulate or replace the 3 overhead doors with insulated doors. Then if you need heat/cooling in that part of the shop, install a mini split unit. Mr. Cool has been offering sponsored KZbin channels like yours as it is a DIY unit that’s very easy to install.

I just had a childhood flashback....when I was a little kid , my Sunday School was in the basement of the church. They had a system of accordion-type particians that could be opened and closed for different size functions . When they were closed , they stored away into a cubby space in the wall . When opened - made several smaller areas .

actually fans dont work unless directly on you. i read articles oscillation is usless. Ca gets really hot. Plus ceiling fans suck. Blowing the super hot air from ceiling down on you. Floor fans directly on the floor are the coolest. use a thermo and you will know. Hot air rises. Its much cooler on the floor. and going up is gets prgressively warmer. ca summers are damn hot.

@peter-pg5yc I totally agree with you.. If you use ceiling oscillating fans work.. I used to work maintenance in a laundry warehouse for hospitals... We reduced temperatures by 15-20 degrees by using industrial oscillating fans that where hung from the rafters... They are not cheap but worth it... You control the fan and oscillating speeds to meet your cooling demands...

Air curtains will help to keep the heat out or the cold out during the winter months. You can get them for the 2 big door's and the smaller house size doors. They have them in warehouses. A barn door on rollers and a rail would work for the area where the plastic is.

Put a wall up with the double doors, best option. As for the three bay doors, you should put a canopy on the outside over the whole area so the sun doesn’t hit those doors. Just an idea.

A sliding barn door might get it. A long air hose for that merch side would be a quick fix for shop air, as it is between two doors and could reach the out the bay doors as well.

For the center garage, perhaps you might consider geothermal cooling and heat. You actually have the perfect setup for it with minimal costs. Out the back, it appears you have a sloaping hill that seems to go back 40 or 50 feet. Simply take a 1 foot diameter pvc pipe, dig a trench at least 30 feet long. On the outside end, bring the pipe up to the surface or out the face of your hill back there with a fine mesh screen on the face of it to prevent critters and bugs from coming in. At the other end, bring the pipe up into the center garage. At 12 feet deep, the ground maintains a constant temperature winter and summer. Down to 12 feet, the ground temperature is 20 degrees lower than the outside temperature. Below 12 feet to 20 feet, the ground maintains a temperature another 20 degrees lower. Best of all, other than the pipe, cost to rent a backhoe, and perhaps a fan, or register to draw the air in, and some gravel to line the bottom of the ditch, the air-conditioning is free all year round. I normally wouldn't say it, but you are from Oklahoma. After putting the pipe in the ground, you will need to fill the trench in. Then just enjoy. There is a couple in Arizona who are homesteading in the desert who have videos on KZbin showing their progress with the same system if you'd care to research it. They can be found at Our Self-reliant Life. I don't know about you, but I'm all-in for free energy. Good luck.

Its not just your dead space in the work area that's a problem it's the fact your AC outlet is pointing straight towards the 3 bay. That's the area that'll get the cool air first every time then the dead space then where you're working. Your Mrs will know where to find a cheap heavy curtain fabric. Staple one piece to the truss and then hang it as a weighted curtain off the truss. Will be good enough as a thermal break to keep the AC where you want it but easy to shift and move out the way. To fix your work area you need fans to circulate the air around. Either some big ceiling fans or a couple rotating fans in opposite corners.

You should attach rigid foam insulation to the inside of the doors, mount a huge 16 foot fan in the ceiling of the tall shop, it would pull the heat up to the ceiling in the summer and push the heat down in the winter, depending on rotation of the fan. Would help deal with the dead space

Maybe instead of drilling and holes through your walls or insulation, right there at that garage door connecting the 2 buildings, on the older side right near the door right under that yellow caution sign, you could mount up an air hose on a reel. Mount it flush with the wall or on a swivel mount which im sure they make. That way you could just crack the big door or the small door pull the air hose over to do what you need and reel the hose back up and it stays on the old side. After listening your plan for the new side parking garage, I imagine you won't need air on that new side so much that you'll need to plumb air to the room. I have a reel mounted next to my air compressor in my home garage and the hose is about 60ft or so. I can pull it all the way to the street infront of my house and give it a tug when I'm done and it will reel itself back up. Just an idea so you don't have to do any drilling if you didn't really want to. Hope you see this🤘🏾

You may want to look into canvas covers or plastic covers for the merch shelves, i think theres going to be much more dust in the new merch shop...

Puddin I love your channels and what you do! I love the model T build can’t wait to see it do a burnout. You were thinking of building a wall with double doors to conserve your cooling. My suggestion is put in a barn style door, which be bigger so you could push a car through it if you needed in the future. I would rather go bigger than wish I put in a bigger opening later. Plus with a barn style you don’t need to worry about door swings and keeping area clear. Just a suggestion, You do you. Again thanks for the content and don’t let the negative comments get you down, I’ll stand with you! God bless Stevie.D

With the new door bottom seals also check the stop molding which is the trim around the top and sides. You can get thicker/wider vinyl that meets up to the door. Have your garage door guy adjust it tighter to the opening if you're not going to open and close the doors a ton. My dad's been in the garage door business for 30 years and I grew up doing it with him.
