Pueblo West is a large semi-rural subdivision west of Pueblo. Built to be the perfect example of the "Wonderful World of Spacious Living", Pueblo West offers large lots, mountain views and low crime rates. Situated right next to Lake Pueblo and within commuting distance to three major cities, it has grown in popularity showing little sign of slowing down.
Ski Lodge was created to publicly document our travels around Colorado. Started to simply get everyone out of the house, it has turned into a vast collection of history, photography and general information.
Pueblo West is part of the PUEBLO METRO AREA

as always, fantastic job!...much thanks. i love hearing the history of these places. there's an old abandoned graveyard next to the reservoir (drive down swallows rd till the end; the newest grave i saw was from 2002, and there were several that were from the early 1900s) i bet it was the graveyard for the disappeared community of swallows. there were maybe 50 graves, just a couple that looked anything like new, and no signs or anything that gave a clue what its purpose was.

You are correct; it's the original Swallows Cemetery that was relocated in 1971 and the only remnant of the civilization that used to be there. I believe there is a headstone dated 2015 now

@@SkiLodgeColorado aha, i had to be misremembering, it must have been 2015. lol, i have never really been interested in the history of anywhere i've lived, but colorado is totally different, it just strikes a chord in me somehow. thanks again for these awesome videos!...you should get a pat r eon (have to break it up, or the comment gets auto-removed, lol), or however one gets that "thanks!" contribution button. ✌

i enjoyed the almost 2 years i lived in pueblo west...lol, but it was mainly because of the ability to park and live in my tiny house without hassle, the relatively nice weather (not nearly as good as canon city, but waaaay better than noco), and the beautiful natural environment. i can see that it would be an excellent practical and economical choice of where to establish a young family, but there really isn't much to do, and not many options when you are sick of the same thing all the time. i will never forget my evening walks around the reservoir...amazing sunset views with dazzling starlit skies and quiet breezes wafting plaintive coyote songs.

Me and my wife have both been in Pueblo West since grade school. We considered moving several years ago but didn't l, and are now in too deep to leave anytime soon. Luckily COS and Denver are close enough to visit whenever we crave more.

he has a few mountain town videos (e.g., salida, victor/cripple creek), but dude's got a family, and i'm guessing works a regular job...those big resort towns like telluride/crested butte/steamboat springs/etc. are in the middle of the mountains, and both take a very long time to get to (e.g., i _also_ used to live in pueblo west, and it used to take me almost 6 hours each way to go skiing in telluride), and are extremely expensive. ultimately, not practical for a day trip with the fam.

Thanks for watching! We're working through a pre-planned list of towns I made, going from closest to farthest. 3-4 hrs away from PW is the farthest we can reasonably accomplish in a single day, and those towns are scheduled a few years from now. After we finish visiting those, we're going to try to take weekend trips to what's left which includes Craig, Grand Junction, Durango, Telluride, etc. Unfortunately we do work regular jobs, but the dream and goal is to travel the state full time.

Hate to get political, but if we were to incorporate PW, both areas would start to thrive. Can't even get a decent bus system. People move just outside Pueblo city limits to avoid taxes, the population continues to grow, with none of the corresponding amenities.
@SkiLodgeColorado
@SkiLodgeColorado 3 ай бұрын
I was also for incorporation until speaking with a few knowledgeable locals who clarified that we're not ready it. The Metro Board can't even get it together let alone a city government. The cost to start local services would also require an up front tax hike that likely would never pass vote anyway. Luckily (or extremely unlucky) we are down to last few new-build water taps, and prices are nearing $50k just to connect which has drastically slowed construction down to basically nothing, steadying the population for now. Lastly, and I think speak for many, but I don't want bus connection to Pueblo city and a local PW only loop wouldn't be profitable. I think we're connected via Bustang though.
@timothylopez8572

@@SkiLodgeColorado That upfront cost sounds like something the governor should address. Maybe even federal grants. It is going to require massive infrastructure projects and could easily draw corporate investments to build manufacturing jobs or something. Maybe Tesla or something, Pueblo does have a history of being a STEEL CITY.
